So I heard a rumour that the Braves pulled it off. Yay for Sara's team!!

Got some coffee and tea here for celebrating or just relaxing on a Sunday morning. Still lots of honey and lemon, too, if needed.

Finally really feels like Fall here. Temp hit 0C last night and it is only going to hit low double digits this afternoon before plummeting again.

I have a 4000+ word story written with lots more to go and am serious debating if it is worth that much verbiage. It is a fairly simple love story and this is feeling like overkill. Then again, Love Story was also a fairly simple love story and they got both a novel and a feature film out of it. So, hey, maybe I'll just keep going and cut the hell out of it when I edit if I find there is a lot of excess.

Dune, Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune.

Actually, those are three separate novels, though Messiah should have been the final part of Dune since it finishes Paul's story. I believe this movie was only the first part of Dune, wasn't it? So I think the next movie will just be finishing Dune. Though Messiah is fairly short so they might be rolling it in. Children is another whole novel, though, so that's another entire movie. And when I was reading Dune, that's all there was. God Emperor came out just about the time I was reading it but I kind of gave up after Children. I do that a lot with series. If I feel the series has reached a logical ending, I tend to stop reading/watching at that point even if the creator finds reasons to continue for years after.

Coffee is brewing and kettle is boiling. Honey and lemon wedges stand ready for Sara if needed.

Another grey day. I am writing but not sure about this one. Might move on to something else. Otherwise, it's a fairly quiet weekend around here.

Decided to drop Netflix. Just not watching it enough to justify the cost right now. They save your profile for 10 months or something like that so I can always re-up. Was hoping Neil Gaiman's The Sandman (based on the comic/graphic novel series that really made his name) would be out by now but COVID delayed the shoot and they are now talking next spring.

Hi! I submitted my scribbles. It is called "Just a Girl Who Loves Cats" and will be in the Horror genre once published. It's weird. Haha! 🤣 I was trying to channel my inner "Poe", but it's more like "Poo". 🤣 😳 🤣

Y'alls entries are fabulous though!! 😀

I enjoyed it. The Poe vibe is definitely there.

And I am now caught up on the entries to date. Here's hoping for more to read soon.

Coffee is on, kettle is boiling, Cream of Earl Grey is in the pot.

I see the comp has grown a bit again. Nine stories as of this morning and someone on another site mentioned submitting but I don't see it up yet. Still hope we get some more. Would love to see us hit at least the same number as the survivor's story comp (15) or even beat that.

Grey day here again. Not a much rain in the forecast, though. Still, not sure if I'll be able to get some fresh air or not.

Now you have me wanting to write a humourous horror story about Edgar Allan Poo. It will probably stink, though. 🤣

"Quoth the raven,

Where's the loo?"

Take me out to the ballgame, take me out with the ... (flees rotten tomato-flinging crowd)

And to go with those lovely baseball cookies, a pot of fresh coffee and a teapot of Kenya Tinderet.

Kind of a grey, wet day here. And the forecast for coming days isn't looking great. Oh well, maybe having to stay in this weekend will get me going on either my reading (just had to renew a book that really should have taken me just a week or two) or writing (no projects on the go right now, just random ideas).

Eight stories in, ten days to go. And there's some great stuff coming in, too. Let's keep it rolling.

I hardly need to plug my own story with kindly folk like Mendalla around. But walking blindly into this spot I am most grateful and can now understand why the story has fewer viewers than others. Thank you, Mendalla. The historical background to my story owes much to the influence of Henrietta Fielding. Also, I just got started with no real idea of direction when I asked Anna May Zing if she thought a Spooky tale could have a happy ending with just a touch of remaining mystery. From that moment it took flight, and just made the length requirement without any cutting. So, yes, please try it, if you have the time. Here it is:

And so, you knocked the ball out of the park, Jim. Happy to be of assistance. You have shown that spooky does not necessarily mean horror or violence.

I have always held that spooky is more about the uneasy sense that something is askew than about violence or gore. It's a sub-genre of horror in that is about fear, but it is more the little shiver up the spine kind than the jump scare or gross out. So far, I think this comp has handled that very well (though I have not read all the stories).

In some ways, I feel like I got ahead of the game last year. My entry in the Cheer to 10 Years Full Length comp would have been perfect for this one. It got a top ten finish and an RR in that one, but might have done even better in this one.

No Talia Wednesday had become Talia’s Back is Out So I am Taking Care of Her Wednesday.

But the question is ... Did the cats help?😀

Nice walk this evening. Sunny, fairly warm. Did not get barked at like I did a couple nights ago (some passing doggie decided he had to defend my property from me).

One more day of work and then a long weekend. No special occasion, just using up some vacation time that carried forward from 2020.

Good morning! Coffee is brewing, teapot is filled with English Breakfast. Kettle is hot for other teas or hot beverages. Cocoa and marshmallow supplies are laid in for the looming winter.

Anything exciting happening out there? Pretty quiet around these parts.

The one with the volcano opening up to reveal a missle silo is pretty cool too. You Only Live Twice maybe?

That's the one. Except it wasn't a missile base, it was for space launches. That's the movie where things started to get kind of unhinged. I mean SPECTRE went from stealing a couple atomic bombs from a crashed bomber in Thunderball to space piracy and a launch pad hidden in a volcano in You Only Live Twice. Fun movie, but definitely one of the more cartoonish Bonds.

Good day. Hope all are keeping well. My sympathies and best wishes to Talia.

Kettle is on for a late day green tea. Anyone else?

Well done you, that's brilliant. Get Out was a recent horror film, not bad.

Launched the rise of Jordan Peele, now a big name in horror as a writer, director and producer (he wrote and produced the recent remake of Candyman). He also does comedy (in fact, started out there).

My latest fantasy story, The Healer's Secret, is live on StoriesSpace. It is set in a new fantasy world (i.e. is not in the same "universe" as Night of the Wind and The Goddess Dances) and is about a woman's past and parentage coming back to haunt her years after she thought she had put them behind her. There's some sorcery, some violence, some horror, and a sort of hero's journey (that last wasn't conscious, just came to me now that it is in there).

Comments welcome in the story or in this thread.

I am working on a sequel/follow-up that picks up shortly after this story ends.

There is also an alternate ending version of this one that I have decided to hang on to, though I am not sure why. Maybe I'll do a "director's cut" someday.

Apple pie of course, but I have certainly eaten humble pie a few times.

WYR play a game or watch a movie?

Had Kina on again, this time one of her older albums that predates me discovering her.

They are always eager to see if I'm gonna tell them a story or not .

As are the slightly older folks around here (hint, hint).

Go Braves! (Hey, the Jays are long gone)

But I have an announcement: If a person has not seen all the Bond movies, their opinion on anything inclusive Bond is invalid. You’ve gotta see all to have an informed opinion.

Heartily disagree. I made it clear that my list was relative to the end of the Brosnan era and I think that is valid with that stipulation in place. I know it will probably change when I finally see all of Craig and acknowledged that. But not something to fight over.

My fantasy is up. I think I am happy with it but I still have the other ending kicking around just in case. Once a few have commented, I might let slip what happens in the alternate ending. Or maybe I'll do a "director's cut special edition." 😉

Been quiet here today, but I'll put on a fresh pot in case Verbs or Sara happens by later. I'm boiling water for a cup of Buddha's Blend myself.

Dang, now I feel old. I was 3 years into my first career job and got engaged that year.
