From the joke thread on another board:

"What if UFOs are just billionaires from other planets?"
Survived Wednesday and Thursday, though not unscathed. Been nursing a bugger of a headache today. Still, one workday left and then it's a long weekend here in the Great White North. The actual name for the first Monday in August varies from province to province, even within provinces. In Ontario, it is mostly known as the Civic Holiday, but some places celebrate Simcoe Day in honour of John Graves Simcoe, the British governor of Upper Canada (which became Ontario after Confederation) who had a hand in founding a lot of places in the province, including my current hometown of London.

Enough history. Need tea and cookies.

Getting my feet wet in SS.

Getting your feet wet hardly fits given how long you've been around under your various IDs (yes, folks, this is Adagio).
Good evening, all. Grass cut and pruned more bushes (in an attempt to spare my eyesight from poking branches). I shall have an iced tea and a couple of those peanut butter banana cookies while I wind down.
We had showers on and off all day yesterday, with some lightning in the evening while we were watching the Olympics. Got to see Canada's first medal live (silver in 4x100 freestyle relay). My city has a local girl on the team, too, who will be going for a medal in 100m butterfly tomorrow (tonight our time). Big story of this games might be the anchor of the relay team, though. Penny Oleksiak is one medal away from joining two past (and much older) athletes as Canada's top medal winner in the Olympics. They both have 6 and last night was her fifth. 21 and only in her second Games. Still won't match Clara Hughes, though, in one regard: Hughes six medals were spread across both summer and winter games, a pretty rare feat. Two cycling medals in Summer Games and 4 speed skating medals in Winter Games. And then went on to become a mental health advocate after she retired from competition.

Quiet in here at the moment, but I'll put the coffee and kettle on for those wanting their morning "fix".

Went to the parade this morning... The parade float I worked on was in the middle of the parade so it was awesome to see .
Not sure if it won a ribbon or not it hasn't been announced yet . I'll let y'all know tomorrow.

Given that you literally poured your blood into it, I should hope it gets something.

Ah, Elmo the delight of kids and the terror of parents. My son was never that into Sesame Street and my Sesame Street days predated Elmo by a couple decades, I think.
Been pouring through some of the comp entries that I missed during the week. Some really good stuff here. Nicely done, SS writers.

For the first time in my life I have built up the confidence to write. So far, I have really enjoyed it and actually wish I had started sooner.

I think many of us SS regulars would say we enjoy it and wish you had started sooner, too. Writing has certainly generated some high points of the pandemic for me, too (first comp win, most notably).
Good morning. Nice see that elizabeth ... ponied up ... for a gift. * ducks thrown tomatoes (from Gil's garden, of course) *

So, the Olympics are on. Anyone paying attention. Saw some of the opening ceremony. There's a couple local athletes I hope to catch in action. Beyond that, not sure how much I'll bother to watch. Might be worth watching women's gymnastics just to see Biles in action again. She's pretty amazing.
Aww such cute doggies. Even that makes me feel a bit better.

And sixteen stories now. Nice.

Gotta go. A non-smoky, sunny sky puppy walk beckons the family.

So it has cleared up out there. We got smoke from fires in Northwestern Ontario early in the week but it seems to have cleared out as well. At least the sun wasn't a dark orange-red last night like it was the previous couple.

Another story crept in. Excellent! That means we tied the number from last summer's comp.

Just swinging by for a tea.

Talia is at the office, so today the kitties and I are going to learn to juggle, to surprise Talia on her return home.

Verbs:

Talia:

Netflix's Russian Doll has a nicely curated soundtrack of popular music. Harry Nilsson's "Gotta Get Up" serves kind of, sort of, as the theme (but not really, it just shows up whenever the main character's time loop restarts).

Hello all. I am not new to writing. And I hope I can share mine.

You have come to the write ... er ... right place, GodsAngel. Welcome to the space for stories! I see you already have one up on the front page. I'll take a look later.
Happy Birthday, Verity!!

And thanks to the big white bear for the cuppy cakes. Kettle and coffee are on for those wanting some caffeinated goodness to wash them down.

Fifteen comp entries and it technically is not over yet. I'll try to sneak in reading a few more today. Got to Ping's this morning while I was having my first cuppa.

Having some good summer weather these days. You know, warm and sunny without being hot and muggy. Not sure how much longer that will last. Showers on tap for tomorrow it appears.

Contemplating what to write next now that the comp is over. Another story about Tina is one option. There's a couple languishing in my slush pile, including finally continuing the story of "The Night of the Wind", that I could work on, too.

Like Ping, I'm Canadian, and I have to say that I picked up "y'all" years ago. It's such a useful phrase that I find that I use it all the time.

So, take care, y'all!

I used to travel to the South pretty much annually for a work conference so "y'all" kind of crept in, though I probably still use "eh" more.

There's another conference I could go to now but I'm skipping this year. Still not convinced I want to go to Houston in October. Seems too soon.

Good evening, y'all.

And someone got staple gun happy and got the tip of my finger

Ouch. I once impaled a finger back in my teens while helping assemble our family church's annual report. Not fun. Staples should be outlawed under the Geneva Conventions or something.

Love how lively it's getting around here now. Haven't had to read through this many posts in Inspirations in a long time.
So, fourteen barring any more last minute entries. That's only two short of last summer's Summer Word Bank comp so not bad at all. I shall endeavour to read more tonight. Busy-ness and a bout of depression kind of set me back since my initial run of reading entries. And I love the good comments I have been getting here. So much better than "like it" which is the extent of so many comment I get elsewhere.
Just read and commented on Tams' story. Wonderful piece of wilderness survival fiction with a well-drawn lead character. Read it. Ape say so.

I will probably get to James next, though the ones from curiousannie and verbal are kind of beckoning, too.

Another warm one here, though no doubt cooler (but wetter) than Rump's digs in the desert. I am using the patio table as a desk once again. This weather is too good to pass up.
Good morning. I visited Stonehenge just a couple years ago but there was neither Verity nor dancing happening. Must have gone on an off day.

I see a mysterious polar bear has wandered into the competition. Hope he drops by to introduce himself though he seems vaguely familiar, eh.

Coffee is on and kettle is boiling. I'm settling in for a rather quintessential Southern Ontario Summer day (high of 30C, humid, chance of evening showers).

I have posted three poems on Space and would be interested in discussing writing.

You have come to the right place, Atticus. I saw them go up but have been rather focussed on the comp of late. Will give them a boo when I have a chance. Welcome to Inspirations!
Happy Monday!!! Coffee is a'brewin' and kettle is a'boilin'.

Comp continues to grow, with Tams adding her contribution (which will probably be the next one I read). Nice to see lots of comments, and good ones, coming in for the comp entries.
Got through three yesterday. Will try to get to some more today. Impressed as always with the SS team coming through with good takes on the theme.
So now with my story "live" I'm starting to delve into the other entries. Given the authors, I have high expectations. Started with Kat's entry and was not disappointed.
Finally read up on what happened with the Nats-Padres game. Ugh. Surprised it hasn't made any of my usual news sources or Twitter follows. Only knew it happened because of Larry and Jeff talking about it.

Love how you help out with the church kids, Sara. Bet they get as much from your stories as from the lessons.
My story is in the queue. Hopefully a mod gets to it soon. At least the queue here doesn't get backed up. It's a bit dark but the ending is, I think, hopeful.

Kettle is on for afternoon tea.

Where, oh where, is the comp entry of the One True Ping?

Given that the smoke from wildfires in BC is blanketing Alberta right now, he may be trying to ... um ... survive.r1mRKdQsnYp4nb7J

Mine is now cluttering up the queue.
