Hello, everyone! It's been a hot minute since I've been in here. The little one is off at daycare and she's potty trained! I now work the night shift and my sleep schedule is out of whack. I have a story I started and the characters are finally talking to me. I also have a few musings that are being outlined, and a few on here I want to update, and I have an idea for a collection of essays and short stories I want to expand and self-publish. Keep this quiet, but I'm working on a little business venture, just waiting on the state to send me my approval letter and I can snatch the domain I have in mind. I should probably snatch it now and park it for now. I hope all is well with you guys and my website is up and working on a new article.

Hey, Sharon, nice to see you. Business venture sounds like fun, though probably a lot of work, too. Not sure about where you are, but if domains are as cheap there as they've been getting up here, I'd be inclined to snatch and park. You can always just take it for a year and let it expire if you don't use it. I just renewed one for 4 years for like $50 CAD earlier this year (but it was a .ca domain and I imagine you're looking at .com or something).

Another nice day here. Even had the windows open for most of the afternoon. Try for a walk after dinner (damn work).
Rough nights do tend to lead to lazy days in my experience. Hope things are okay with you and sis.

Yep, gorgeous here, too. Heading out for a walk soon. Just resting after doing cleaning (wash floors and vacuum carpets).

I am watching the Godzilla anima on NF

What did you think? I enjoyed Planet of Monsters, the first one, but keep hearing that it goes downhill from there so have been hesitant to go on.

Right now there is only one weekly program that I watch with some regularity. That is Hell's Kitchen.

My son learned to cook some dishes after watching Ramsay's Youtube channel. I used to think he was just the "swearing chef" but now I have some respect for the guy. After all, he got my son interested in cooking.

Kind of on "pause" with Russian Doll on Netflix right now. Enjoying it but I have an odd relationship with entertainment these days. Stuff I love still doesn't attract me for long periods.
And here they are in a recent First To Eleven cover of a No Doubt hit.

Concrete Castles is a "new" (sort of) band from Erie, Pennsylvania. They are "sort of" new because the trio are also part of a long-running Erie-based band called First To Eleven that I discovered last year. F211 are mainly a cover band, Concrete Castles are kicking off with an original. Singer Audra Miller has a terrific voice for the kind of material (she teaches voice at a program called Rock School in Erie) they do and Matt Yost and Sam Gilman (guitar and drums respectively) are excellent musicians. I hope this band goes places. They've certainly worked hard in F211 to get this far.

Spring for us up here in the Northern Hemisphere is starting today.

And it is a lovely spring day here. Sunny and double digit (Celsius) highs. Might hit the riverside path for a walk instead of just staying in my neighbourhood assuming the river isn't in flood (and I'm not seeing anything on the city or conservation authority sites that says it is).

Kettle is one for the tea crowd. I've got a cup of my Scottish breakfast tea on the go.

Hey everyone. I've known about this place for a while, but I don't believe I've ever actually popped in to say hi. I need to start making mental notes to visit this site more often.

How are we all?

Hey there, Laura. Nice to see you pop by. Check out the cookie stash. Sara's attempt to keep our glucose up.

I am doing well but sometimes wish I was down there where you are. We are hitting our third wave of everyone's favorite virus here in Ontario.

Bill an Angel Kiss cookie is soft cookie with a Hershey kiss in the center.

I'm in! Should go nicely with an evening green tea.

Oh today is also Bill's Birthday

Bill is St. Patrick?? Not sure "saint" is the word I would use, but let's go for it.

Good afternoon and Happy St. Paddy's Day!! I am celebrating with green tea (no it's not particularly Irish, but it is green). And a couple of those cookies, of course.

pineapple coconut whippersnappers

Pineapple in a cookie. Hmmm. * eyes suspiciously, then takes one *

My love of coconut trumps my meh-ness about pineapple. I love fresh pineapple when I'm in a pineapple growing region like Central America (yes, I've seen pineapple farms), but am kind of meh about the stuff we get up here. Pineapple pizza, though, gets a by. Love it and it was invented about an hour away from where I live.

Tried a walk this afternoon but a heel injury forced me back. Kind of blustery and cold, too. Sunny, though, which is why I even tried.

Kettle is on and I'm making a pot of sencha (Japanese green tea) to go with my * eyes suspiciously * pineapple coconut cookie.

My wife and I just got back from getting our second Covid shot.

Good to hear, Roland. Things are going a bit more slowly up here, but the pace seems to be picking up now.

Anyway. Talia woke up with a horrible headache, and its snowy and cold out

Does she often get headaches with weather conditions? My aunt, son, and possibly me get those. Hope she's feeling better today. I find some of mine take 24-36 hours to completely shake now (had one of them on Friday).

Lovely weekend here weather-wise. Got out for a walk yesterday. Writing is starting to pick up steam, though my perfectionism seems to be worse than ever. I have edited the first dozen paragraphs of my current opus without ever finishing it first (because I have been wrestling with where to go with it).

Kettle is on for tea. I'm drinking my usual Scottish Breakfast.
Not sure if I have raved about Lake Street Dive here as much as on my own board, but they dropped their new album and what an album it is. This bunch of New England Conservatory graduates blend styles like jazz, R&B, blues, and rock to come up with a sound that is very much their own. This single came out yesterday.

Big snowstorm hitting in about 8 hours. I'm gonna write ALL DAY LONG.

That how "The Voice of Ice" got written originally (a big snow storm that had me stuck at home), even if the current version has had a lot of edits over the years since.

Hi, all. Lovely day here. Went for a walk while my car was in the shop. Figured it was safer COVID-wise than their waiting area (and I could ditch my mask).

Had the headache from hell last night but it seems to be over now. Still some stiffness and achiness in my neck and upper back (where these things start with me) though.

Kettle is on. I'm making some green tea to have with a ball and a mitt (seems like a good combo).

Good luck to all your teams!

Dear Bill, I love the idea of March 15th being the national day to remember and reflect on the multitude that were cut down by this Covid-19 plague. It would be nice to go National with it. If you have any high-ranking Senator living nearby why don't you drop them a suggestion. It would mean a lot coming from Rumple_deWriter.

Canada is actually doing it today, the anniversary of WHO declaring a pandemic.

Except for ALL THE KAIJU DEATH BATS it unleashes! You didn't think I'd pass up an opportunity for kaiju, did you? smile

Sadly, HBO Max is not available in Canada and I am not ready to venture to theaters yet so not sure when I will see GvK. Could use a kaiju fix, too. There's not much available legally here right now it seems. I think the 2014 Godzilla is on NF Canada so maybe a rewatch of that. And the Godzilla animes, which NF owns, but I've heard reviews suggesting the 2nd and 3rd aren't as good as the first (which I have seen and liked).

Weather is starting to cool down here. Showers in the forecast for today, then cooler.

Afternoon tea is wakoucha (Japanese Red Tea).

And figure out what happens when a small nuclear bomb is dropped into a volcano.

Isn't your avatar the answer? I.e. Kaiju get unleashed.

Sounds like an interesting story. I am writing again but the story is being unusually resistant to my efforts to make the scenario sensible without a raft of expository paragraphs.
Yeesh, so that's where all the marshmallows are doing. Didn't think Sara could drink hot chocolate THAT quickly.

Lovely day here so I got my first walk of 2021. Supposed to be showers tomorrow then cooling off so I may not get another one in for a while. Oh well, one day of fresh air and sunshine is still better than none.

Green tea and a couple of those butterscotch marshmallow bars should end the day in style.
Really enjoying the music from Epica's (another band in the vein of Nightwish) new album Omega. Female lead singer Simone Simons packs a great voice. She's been fronting the band since she was 17, when it was founded by her then-boyfriend Mark Jansen (the male singer/growler in their songs). They've since split up romantically but remain bandmates.

Went out to the mailbox tonight and did not feel like I was about to lose any fingers and toes (it's about a 2 or 3 minute walk each way, just enough to notice the cold) so I guess it is getting warmer here, too.

My son did his own tax return for the first time. Yay! So I'm back to doing only two again (me and spouse). He kind of hummed and hawed about whether he did his partner's.

An herbal tea and a donut before bed sounds about right.

I have never been a coffee drinker and have realized I do not know what an expresso machine looks like. How peculiar is that?

Ditto on never being a coffee drinker. My knowledge of coffee comes mainly from associating with coffee drinkers like co-workers or my son.

Larry mentions a percolator. me, for no particular reason I've always envisioned a single-pot commercial style coffee maker. But with the possible exception of a jar of instant coffee, I'm content.

Bertha's cleaner cousin? (in-joke for some of us)

Making a pot of Coronation Street, a nice fruity black tea blend from my regular place. Help yourself. Maple walnut is my cookie poison today. Love those.
Um ... neither. I hate driving trucks. In a pinch, I'd take the F series, though. Much prefer Ford to Chrysler.

Plug-in EV or hybrid?

Curled up in my recliner, earbuds in, and starting to think about my next piece of writing.

Honestly, I feel like everything turns out better when I don't have a plan.

Yeah, I have a OneNote notebook of ideas but I don't really plan stories out in it. It's more background notes and such that I consult when I am reusing a character or setting to make sure I keep things vaguely consistent. And ideas that I'm saving for future use. And I do scribble poems in it from time to time as well.
New Nightwish concert video that just dropped today, but was shot in Mexico City in 2015. Floor Jansen is in fine form here, both vocally and in her animated stage presence. And it looks like bassist Marko Hietala is wearing some kind of kilt??

I have no real stake in the espresso machine, being a tea person to start with, just brought it up since I know some people are into drinking near-pure caffeine or making fancy drinks like lattes. Sounds like none of those hang out here. Guess they prefer Bucky's.

It's the weekend and as Canadian rockers Loverboy used to sing, "Everybody's working for the weekend."

Making a pot of Scottish Breakfast tea. There's extra if others need a fix.

you keep me in Marshmallows

Anyone make a marshmallow machine?

Sunny but otherwise winter-y hear. At least I don't have to go anywhere.

My province has unveiled its latest update to the vaccination plan and it is within the realm of possibility that my wife and I may get at least our first doses in the April-May timeframe. And Canada approved Johnson & Johnson, the one shot vaccine, today which should increase our supply so that could even move up again.

I see there's some chocolate pecan left. I'll take a couple of those.

Scott did you get the delivery of marshmallows?

Yep, cleared out the old office at the back that we weren't using to store them. 10 cases, 20 bags per case. Not counting individual marshmallows per bag though. You can do that if you like.

Kettle is on for tea or hot chocolate or whatever else you want that doesn't come from the coffee maker. Anyone think a espresso machine would be a good addition, by the way? Or is that gettin' too fancy-schmancy?
Dropping for a bite and drink before bed. Hope all are keeping well.

I see chatter about high water. Rivers here have been high due to rain and warmer weather. The flood plains in this city are pretty much all park land so flooding mostly just shuts down the Thames Valley Parkway (a multiuse trail system along the river) and some playgrounds.

Been attending a virtual conference the last day and a bit. Some interesting stuff but conferences are definitely more fun in person. There's really not much of a social component to the online ones, at least not like the receptions and lounges you get at in-person events. I'm figuring I won't be doing any in-person conferences again until next year.
Sorry I'm late today but had a rather long, crazy day. Hired a student to augment my team for the summer, though, so something was accomplished.

Kettle is on. I'm having lemon-ginger herbal tea with some sesame seed tea cookies (I think that's a new one for Sara).
More like the Valley of the Cloud where I am at the moment. Grey and wet again today.

Kettle is on. Anyone else for tea, hot chocolate, instant coffee or other such kettle-requiring beverages?

Oh, and I've ordered another truckload of mini-marshmallows. Stock is running low and we don't want Sara to be without.
