Trying to resurrect an old computer here. Problem: I can't remember what password is on my account and my wife's account, which I do have the password for, isn't an administrator so I can't do much with it. Growl. Need it working because it is the only bootable computer in the house with a DVD drive and we have an old DVD from my son's school days that we want to rip to MP4.

First of my "Micro of the Day" series to go here is submitted. It's horror, but what else is new from me? I think half of my output here is in that genre. I'll post a link once verification happens.
Still too early for cicadas here. They are more of a July-August thing in Ontario, though maybe global warming will shift that eventually.
Supposed to be somewhat warm and muggy for the weekend here, then cool down again.
Coffee and tea are on for this lovely Saturday. Tea is a pot of my Sunday Tea (black w. French Vanilla) but there's lot of others if you prefer something else.

How do you do it? How do you get a story down to under 1000, or under 100, words and still get the story told?
I am sure there are all kinds of tricks and tips for writing short short fiction. Let's share them.
1. Adjectives and adverbs are the enemy, esp. in micro. Yes, you might need the former from time to time but review each one to make sure it is really necessary.
2. Active takes fewer words than passive in many cases. And writing in active voice is good practice anyhow.
3. Watch for cases where a small wording change can save words (trying to remember the example from the micro i wrote this afternoon and I can't)

LOL. I actually had a bout of shingles back in the winter. Not disabling and fairly mild compared to what I have heard from others, but definitely made me uncomfortable for a few days.
So, I may have an idea. Instead of knocking myself dead trying to stick the landing on long stories, I'll try doing some micros. I'm calling it "Micro of the Day" but it may not be daily on here. Some may go on the site that must not be named. Maybe the challenge of doing interesting, meaningful stories in 100 words will get my creative juices flowing again.

Out of that lot, I think I've only seen Field of Dreams, but then I'm not at all fond of "America's Pastime". You can keep it as far as I am concerned. Well, until the Jays are in the playoffs again, then I'll probably change my tune for a year or two. Though being a Jays fan where I live is a bit risky. This was Detroit Tigers turf for a long time (we're halfway between Toronto and Detroit).

Who's being negative? While you're pissing all over the site, I've got the prototype for the new site half-built and have Nic and Gav's backing, something that you weren't going to get. We need a steady hand on this and you have not shown yourself to be one with your penchant for leaving every time someone gets your knickers in a knot.

Or not. I'm still working on the problem of bringing old stories over. Restoring the text files that you can download is too much work (they aren't formatted in a useful way and require some massaging). Gav has given me a way but I need some help implementing it and it may get pricey. But I have not given up. However, I need a working site to import them into if I do find a way so I'm focusing on dev work right now.

I actually had a dream recently that was a bit in this vein. Which is weird because I don't really have a hard crush on anyone right now. It's a bit fragmentary now, but basically I was on stage performing at some musical event, which is also weird because I can't sing or play an instrument worth shit, and kissed a singer that I like on the lips. Except the name I am sure that I said to her, Kina, didn't match the appearance of the woman. "Kina" would be, I assume, Kina Grannis, an indie singer-songwriter that I like and this woman did not look like her. I did feel her lips, though, like you describe with the hair.
