Nice to see the new contest here. It will get a lot of attention, I hope. I've got the coffee perking right now. The tea kettle is ready.

I have jotted two ideas in OneNote already. On two different themes no less. I don't see the word bank being too much of a challenge save the three common words. The words in each theme fit the theme well enough that I would probably use two or three of them just naturally when writing on that subject.

Wow. I think this is the first actual comp since I've been active on SS. Good theme and idea, too. I am meditating on it. Perhaps this will break my current writing drought.
Cooled off here for a few days, which I am down with.

Had a nice takeout dim sum today. My beloved immigrated to my homeland 33 years ago today so wanted to celebrate. There was actually a couple eating in at the restaurant, everyone else was taking out.

Writing seems to be off the table for me right now. I have been doing some work on my fantasy world (the one where Night of the Wind is set) but whether I get a story out of that, who knows. I once had good intentions about that story being the start of something and I just haven't liked any of my ideas for continuing it.
Limeade and peanut butter banana cookies? I am down with it.

Weather improving here. A bit cooler today and supposed to be even better the next couple days. Still kind of muggy so the ac went on this evening to get things comfortable for sleeping.

Got a decent bike ride in tonight. I think I am up to 5 days straight exercising. Usually I need a break after about 4 so this is a good sign, I guess. either that or a sign I'm going to crash hard (figuratively, not literally) tomorrow.
Good morning, coffee and kettle are on and I think there's still some cookies and e's goodies. I picked up a couple boxes of Timmy's finest donuts and pastries for those looking for a late breccy.

Warm and muggy here. Chance of showers later.
Afternoon, Inspirations people. Summer Heatwave 2 : The Sun Strikes Back is now under way here. But, hey, it's the weekend and I really don't need to go anywhere, just get some household stuff done. Some yard work but I'll try to get that done in the morning before things get too steamy.

Tea, anyone? Kettle's on.

I have not used a PC since I had an IBM PC at my hospital data processing center back in the 1970s. That was MS-DOS. I've never used it since.

Must have been in the 80s, Larry. The IBM PC (and DOS with it) came out in '81.

I sometimes miss DOS but then I have move a bunch of files and remember what a joyous pain "copy" could be without dragging and dropping.

Had to do a system update to my Mac this morning. Now I'm ready to go with a fresh cuppa java.

Hope it went well. I approach system updates with trepidation but I am also dealing with Windows where updates are often as damaging to your computer as malware.KQ6q24H3UC3k4csd Just read up on the trials and tribulations of those testing Windows 10 update 2004 if you don't believe me (I am on 1909 and not budging until MS gets it fixed).

Cookies and tea time. Hmmm. * takes a peanut butter banana cookie and a ginger snap *

I absolutely KNOW you are all smarter anywhere in Canada than we are here. We have had 20 days of 90 or more, tomorrow will tie the record.

The province of Ontario is still over 100 new confirmed cases a day but they are concentrated in 3 or 4 municipalities, mostly in and around Toronto. Most of the rest have 0 most days, including London.

I may have to take back what I said above. You are sounding more and more like fractured USA. At least Walmart has finally made mandatory masks starting July 20. And they will even provide you with one. Now if they could get someone to show them how to wear it over both nose and mouth. Nah.....pipe-dream.

Within each province, things tend to be pretty uniform. Ontario is odd in leaving some of these decisions to the municipal level. Quebec, for instance, put in a province-wide mask order a few days ago. Some stores are doing the same up here though, oddly, not the Canadian arms of Costco and Walmart. We wear them shopping anyhow. I actually haven't been inside a Walmart in months. The local ones all had curbside pickup even before COVID so when we need stuff from there, we just put in an online order and do a pickup run.

Good afternoon. How's life? Warming up here again, but still not up to last week's levels.

Hump day has come and is now going and I'm still alive and functional. Stage 3 looms here in Ontario...After what happened in the US, I'm not entirely happy about this.

Our wonderful government has now decided to make it mandatory to wear masks in shops and supermarkets... from the Twenty-fourth of July!
Hell, that should have been done months ago!

Ontario has left it up to municipal health officers and governments to decide. So Ottawa, where my son lives, requires masks on public transportation and in all indoor public spaces like stores while London, where I am, is only doing it for public transportation (transit, taxis, Ubers) and "close up" transactions like haircuts and manicures.
Had to actually go to the office today. Masks required except when I'm at my own desk or eating (we are in healthcare so company supplies medical masks). Anyone else have a weird urge to carry a scalpel and ask random passersby for clamp when you got those things on? Or did I just watch too many hospital shows?

Weather is nice. Bit warmer than yesterday but still in my comfort zone.

we have a little critter friend (molly the monkey) who loves banana pancakes.

Ape like banana pancakes, too.

Actually, I used to make blueberry banana pancakes. These days I only put blueberries in. Not sure why we stopped with the bananas.

Prince and the Revolution live with one of my favorite of his compositions, the title track from the score for his movie Purple Rain.

This eighties classic pretty much sums it up. Yes, this is Prince's own version, even though the Bangles made it famous.

Time for a tea and some cookies.
I have a very good source for tea here in London so, yeah, I've been restocking. Both here and at home. With David's Tea in decline (badly), I'm glad I found a local business to support.

Hmmm. I think I shall have an orange fudge pinwheel.
My neighbours. The tree they are in is right outside my son's (currently unused since he lives away from home) bedroom so I just stood at his window with my Nikon on full zoom.

Meow. (actually, I haven't seen or listened to Wicked yet, so I guess this is subject to change)

Stage musical or movie musical?
Rained last night and into this morning so our heat wave and drought appear to be over. Cleaning is done and a new blind for the kitchen window is hung, just kicking back now.

Got a surprise at lunch time. My wife noticed bird poop on the deck and then looked up and realized there was a nest right over the spot in our Japanese maple. We can see it clearly from our son's room and there's three fairly large baby robins in it so it must have been there for a while now. We just never noticed it. In fact, I was standing right under it barbequing yesterday. It is a better spot than the one they used to use. They used to build a nest in the ivy on the porch pillar at the front. Didn't work so well and I buried a couple of the babies last year.

Have some pictures on my camera (Yes, I still have a real camera. Better for zooming than a phone.) and I'll post one once they are downloaded.

* check cookie jars and takes a turtle and a starfish *
And since i suspect a lot of non-Canadians don't know who Whitehorse is, this is them. Luke Doucet and Melissa McLelland are a married couple who first got together while touring with Sarah McLachlan. While both had fairly good solo careers going, after they got married they started Whitehorse as a shared project and are still going strong.

Nightwish - Ever Dream

Now that is good taste right there, Scott!

Oddly, I am fairly new to Nightwish, even though bands with big, dramatic sounds tend to be my thing regardless of genre. Even in classical music, I am heavily into people like Beethoven and Wagner. I blame/credit my father, who was into opera, organ music, and such.

Still waiting for an album from this magnificent voice, but she's slipping out a new song every month or two now. Faouzia was born in Morocco and grew up in Winnipeg, Canada. I first heard her sing when she joined the band Whitehorse on stage on Canada Day a couple years ago for one of their hits. I am a big fan of Whitehorse but she completely took over my attention the moment she opened her mouth (alas, that clip got taken down from Youtube a long time ago). And she's also a pretty accomplished songwriter for her age (19 or 20, I think).

Had a brief storm this afternoon that knocked my power off for half an hour or so. Being as I am working from home, it meant I had to knock off early. At least they fixed it quickly. Originally, they had the ETA at 11pm. Would have made getting dinner ready a challenge. In fact, we were talking about getting takeout from the local Viet-Thai place but realized they were in the blacked out area, too.

Anyhoo, I'll take a nice herbal tea and a couple of those cookies.
Supposed to be a 60% chance of showers or thunderstorms here this evening (I even exercised at home rather than risking a premature shower) and my brother liked a tweet from someone who saw lightning in the area, but nothing. We need the flipping rain, too. My yard is starting to "brown up".

A green tea and a cookie to wind down seems like a plan.
Mmm. I see lot of peanut butter there. Let's see what a peanut butter blossom is for starters.

Good evening, everyone. The weekend is coming to an end as is my vacay. Back to what passes for normal these days tomorrow.
It amazes me how quickly some constituencies are to rush into re-opening. Here in Ontario, we're allowing patios with suitable social distancing but that's it as far as dining/drinking out. And groups of 10 max, though they are now allowing some bubbling. And some part of the province were held back due to ongoing outbreaks. A very cautious approach, in other words. Now as things die down, municipalities and health officers are bringing in masking rules to make sure they are in place before the province gets it in its head to go to "stage 3".
Got in a nice hour walk today. Visited the valley along the west side of my neighbourhood, which I have not hiked in a while. Nothing dramatic but it's dense enough that you can kind of forget you're in the suburbs of a moderate size city when you're down there.
