Just found out this week that Clint Eastwood is still in the saddle at 94. New movie as director is Juror #2 and dropped in November. Getting fairly good scores on the metasites, too. Not surprisingly given how many of them have followed in his footsteps, one of his kids is in it. Francesca Eastwood, his daughter with actress Frances Fisher, has a supporting role.

Regarding Jackal being based off a novel, I have found lately more than a few shows and movies are basing them off novels. They are also doing sequels. Could Hollywood be running out of ideas?

Edit: The Jackal is the main target in the sense agent(s) are trying to kill him. He is always escaping by clever means and killing others. It’s streaming on Peacock if you want to watch it.

I have read the novel. Brilliant thriller by Frederick Forsyth. Have not seen the 1973 faithful film or the 1997 one that was so unfaithful that Forsyth made them change the title to just The Jackal. Is the TV version a faithful period adaptation (i.e. Charles de Gaulle is the target) or some kind of updating (as the 1997 film was)?

You know, you're the second woman I've heard say that. I went to the cottage with my uncle and aunt once to bring Dad home when he had a stone up there and my aunt said basically the same thing. There is a propensity for them in my paternal line (grandfather, father, at least one brother) but it's a bullet I have dodged so far. Not sure why.

Temperature took a dip last night so we are back into the cold stuff after a few somewhat warmer days. Lost some of our snow at least. The banks were getting pretty crazy high.

Brazilian alto Violet Orlandi usually hews more to alt-rock and metal in her work, both covers and originals. So hearing her tackle the Billie Holliday classic "Gloomy Sunday" was a pleasant surprise. She does bring some of that alt- sensibility to it, but it also suggests that jazz is another route she could pursue if the mood took her.

Was out shoveling. Nasty, nasty day. Snow ranging from flurries to squalls, fairly high, cold winds. Think Hoth in Star Wars but minus the tauntauns and wampas.

So, I am going to plug a new, largely unknown Finnish band here. How did I find them? The original lead singer and lyricist is the sister of a friend on another site I hang out on (and I think the friend knows another band founder, too). Said sister has now left the band for other pursuits but her successor is doing a bang up job on vocals and writing. This new song and video are their best yet, I think. The band is EGRES and their debut EP Introspection and the singles they have released since are all on major streamers.

FYI, at least a couple of those markets do have schedules for 2025. There's one themed around first line prompts that has quarterly themes and they list all the quarters for next year. And the Other Stories podcast has it's schedule for 2025 up, though Authors Publish just list the themes for the first two months (i.e. Jan. and Feb.) with a link to the podcast's site for the rest.

Here we go. The December list is up. 37 themed calls and contests for your perusal. Some are coming due quite soon but there's also some forward-looking ones for 2025. Themes are, as always, all over the map. Solarpunk, resistance (in the political sense), workers' stories, storms, and so much more. Have a look. Maybe there's a market here for your next story. Psst. Darjeeling can't come from Sri Lanka. It's an actual tea growing area in India. But I'll take some. And one of them there spice bars.

Been too worn out in the evenings to progress on my current work. It's long haul stuff anyhow. Maybe a novelette or novella by the time it's done.

I haven't seen one since Alien 3 came out. Big fan of the first two, though, and this one falls in between them in terms of the in-universe chronology so might partake someday.

I have a bunch of concerts in a playlist on YouTube that i want to get to now that I have a decent soundbar on my TV. Mostly metal, needless to say.
