Just a reminder that aside from the burka part, this describes Christian fundamentalism to a great degree. In other words, Islam is not the problem, fundamentalism is. And that's what I oppose regardless of what tradition we are talking about. I have Muslim relatives and in no way do they resemble your description.
But a war, especially one that seems to lack any real goals, will solve nothing. If Afghanistan and Iraq are any indication, nothing will change substantially as a result of this save maybe to make things worse.
“Islam is not the problem, fundamentalism is “ First, my apologies for political speech, and second, let’s uncouple fundamentalism from evangelicalism and then I think we completely agree. I have Christian fundamentalist neighbors who totally accept me as a pagan. They don’t try to convert me. They are still fundamentalist Christians. I love them.
The parts of any religion that advocate for adherents of other religions to be killed for their beliefs becomes suspect. If someone in a fundamentalist regime who is lgbqt is legally to be stoned (and/or killed) makes that government unacceptable to me.
Therefore it is unacceptable to me to kill anyone for their beliefs as opposed to their actions.
So … If there is a regime or a belief system that wants to kill me because of the gender of the person I love, when do I get to defend myself? Do I have to wait until the dagger is inches away from my neck? (at that point I’m dead and the bigots have won)
This then becomes the question, when Islam says I must be killed if I am gay, when do I get to defend myself?
