I've not been here for a bit. My Mom had a stroke, thankfully a mild one and she is recovering well now at home. It resulted in some stress and worry with my Dad. Long long stories but at least I have a GPS on the key ring he takes everywhere that can locate him if necessary. I stayed with him and have no idea how my Mom does it. I am happy to be back at my house.

Cheers!

Oh Gill, what a dreadful family time. So happy your mother is doing better and I'm sure it will soothe your father to have her there. Staying with your dad. My dad I could have done 24/7 with, but a day with my mom, not so much. And my poor mom spent 4 years in assisted living to lock-up unit. She didn't enjoy any of it and I can understand completely. Hard not to know what is going on and thinking everyone has an ulterior motive for whatever they are doing.

Hope you got a nice nap and will be refreshed by being home.

My number three great-grandchild will be coming home from the hospital today. 'Addy' checked in at six pounds twelve ounces and is ready to dominate family activities for some time to come. For those keeping count, she's g-g kid number three and g-g daughter number two and is the first-born of my own first born's first-born.

Later in June, I'll head up to Lawrence, Kansas for a week of getting back in touch with the two earlier models of my great-grandkids. After days of doing this and that type family stuff, I'll tag-along with them plus their parents on our way to Phoenix. And so now you know why I'll probably be mostly out of pocket for awhile. ;)

Congratulations! What an exciting time. I am so very happy that you will have that family time. Let's hope the weather is just perfection for the trip.

What a wonderful thing that your grandkids and greats will get to visit with the famous man himself.

Couldn't think of a nicer thing to happen.

Once you openSeems the jar I think it is a good idea to do that. But I may be wrong.

Seems we Americans put lots of things in the fridge. Once you've seen mold on jelly, jam or syrup - you do tend to want to not see it again. thus the fridge. Lovely to have new people come to this site.

I heard about this site from friend on sister site.
lunch (especially out with girlfriends)

WYR take a trip to the seashore or the mountains?
Sara,
How about a snake cookie....fun to figure out which end to start with:

Or how about a coyote?

It was so nice to have my parents for dinner yesterday. My middle son, his girlfriend, and their adorable pug came to celebrate Mother's day as well. It was a nice treat especially after a few stressful days dealing with some unfortunate new behavior my dad is exhibiting.

I'm feeling a bit discouraged about everything at the moment. Depression is a sneaky thing and I need to be alert to the symptoms. So forgive me if I am not as active.

I hope Monday was kind to everyone. I'll be in the corner enjoying some of Sarah's cookies.

Take care of yourselves, both mentally and physically. Be kind to yourself.

Cheers!

I'm so glad you were able to have your parents and son, girlfriend and pug to dinner. How do the cats like the pug?
Sorry about your dad's behavior, it is such a hard thing you are going through. My mother had bad dementia and had such a hard time. Thank goodness we had four of us to worry and visit and care. She lived in an assisted living place for about four years and did not do well. They don't pay enough to staff the place (beautiful as it was outwardly). They ended up saying if we didn't move her into a nursing home they would put her in one themselves. One brother took her, but it was so terrible for him. The reason they didn't want her? She kept falling and lying there for hours with no one to notice.
Afraid we'd sue them.

You give yourself big hugs and take care the most important person - you.

I've already scared coyotes out of our yard once today. They're getting bold. I scared him away by banging pots and pans. Later I am going to hang up blinky lights that are supposed to mimic animal eyes. I am also (no, I'm not making this up) going to pee along the fenceline all this week. If those techniques don't work, I want to buy a life-sized plastic coyote that is supposed to work well - you just set it out in the yard. Talia is less than thrilled by this approach.

I think you are on the right track Verbs, but here is a better (?) idea:

Certainly would be cheaper to empty your own bladder, but if the neighbors notice....don't know.

Baseball! How quickly the mighty fall. Actually should have taken a picture when the Nationals were, very briefly, in first place. And started out playing first game against the Yankees and demolished them. I refused to discuss the last two games. Deep sigh.
I am so happy that 3 was the magic number Cynthia! Let's hope they don't give up and send her back home. More tests or whatever it takes to come to a diagnosis.
Took my car in for yearly inspection (required in Virginia). It failed. Said they didn't even want me to drive it back home. Seems the right rear wheel bearings at super bad. Said my wheel could come off at any time. But it was close, so I drove home. They will fix it luckily on Friday morning. Knew my husband would not want to have to come and get me since he was working on preparing dinner.
Think I will go to UVA (Univ of Virginia Medical Center) to have my eyes checked. The person I was referred to doesn't do pupil evaluations any more. And I have seen an eye doctor before at UVA.
And a crown came off. Guess I will have to work in a dental appointment to put it back on.
Raining like crazy for a few days and the river is rising.
A thespian for sure. Would just come naturally to me. Pianist takes too much practice.

Would you rather have a steak or sushi?

Evening, Inspirators!

Thanks, Bill, Larry and Verbs. Mum is still in agony, bless her and got the ambulance out again early this morning. The medics are convinced it's something muscular so hopefully, the muscle relaxants she's been prescribed will help her, fingers crossed.

Wild day today with hailstorms galore!

My heart goes out to your Mum and yourself dear Cynthia. It is so upsetting to have a loved one you are trying to help and there is no answer.

I have a couple of little (compared to your Mum) things that have kept me rather quiet. The biggest one is my eyes. They have been bothering me and after getting in to see my favorite Optometrist, he surprised me by telling me he can't even give me a Rx for glasses because my pupils are like sandpaper. He has no idea why but I will continue to not be able to see well until it is figured out. Waiting for call from eye surgeon's office to se me up an appointment.

Don't forget to take care of yourself and I hope the weather warms and the skies clear. And the moon shines moonbeams on you all night long.

Love you my friend,
Elizabeth

Bill, your comments about the Yankees being in last place reminded me of the old Senators slogan: First in war, first in peace, last in the American League.

Oh dear. Did the Senators really have that for a slogan. Must have been before my time.

I am already feeling sorry for the Mets coming up against the mighty Nats tomorrow. I hope it's not too ugly. The Nationals have been laying back to surprise the silly Mets with their first meet of the season.

hi peeps
A beautiful day here
The birdies are chirping and the sun is shining

Today is the 14th anniversary of the mass shooting on the Virginia Tech campus 32 people died and 23 were injured.
Seems like April has a lot of tragedy anniversaries in it .

Thanks for this reminder Sara. My nephew was a freshman that day. Talk about horror. Way up there as one of the worst massacres by gun. Can only shake my head at what is happening.

I hope you enjoyed the coffee shop in the middle of the night, Gill. It is always easy to make a cuppa tea here. Now that I am up and around I will be making some coffee.

I've thoroughly scrubbed the percolator and filled it will tap water from the Kansa River. I've also put in some of the Arabica coffee I used here in the shop. It goes well with Sara's cookies. She still has plenty of them in her cookie jars. I'm certain they will not all be gone before the boys are here today.

I submitted a little microfiction this morning. I hope it will entertain everyone. I am happy to see it up and published. It just happens to be the 500th story I have published here on Stories Space. That is quite a pleasure for me. Along with my Plenary Award I received for writing in all of the categories SS offers. I think everyone can assume that SS is an important writing space for me. I surely dream of the day it will be just as important to many other folks.

Wow! Congratulations on the 500th story here. You are something - handsome, sweet and full of writing talent. And you have written a story in EVERY category. Gosh. I need to try to get something written.

Hi, Everyone! I'm new to 'Stories Space' and still getting used to the platform. I have a background in science writing: I'm a medical writer for a pharma company and a blogger for Psychology Today. I also write on my own site, Blame the Amygdala, typically about the darker side of life - love, psychopaths, crime, and human relationships. I have joined this site to share some fictional pieces and see if the intended impact is hitting the mark. I am drawn to characters that are somewhat lost in their own minds as it falls apart around them.

I struggle identifying with a particular genre, as I'm sure many of you do. I just like quirky and humorous, the darker the better.

I look forward to getting to know some of you and checking out your stories.

Welcome, so glad you joined us. Looking forward to reading your work.

A blessing on Vic and his wander boy, Larry, for today's setup (Larry, you did remember to get the tea kettle going, right?) ;) So when will this week's Friday Eve celebrations start? ;)

Larry, sympathy to you and your Padres for losing to the worst team in baseball (Pirates) just before facing the best team in baseball (Dodgers) who do double-duty as da Pads biggest rival. Best of luck in this weekend's series.

My coffee mug is filled, so is my non-mug bearing hand but with Sarah's cookies. Thus outfitted, I'll find a comfy chair over at the corner table and wait on developments to, you know, develop.

Later, Inspirators.

Well Bill, the Nats just started the game with the DBacks and they are wiping the floor with us. Sigh. Too bad I missed yesterdays game when we actually won. Don't know what is going to happen, and forgive me, but I hope we can pull it out tonight.
