Oh, forgot - the Nationals are currently doing very well. Played 2 games against the Phillies and both were nail biters, but we won them both. Todays game was so close that one of our outfielders was hit in the mouth and bleeding and they had no one left but an alternate catcher to replace him. So they left him in bleeding. But he ended up catching the fly ball that ended the game and gave us the win. Wow.

Now off to the Marlins. AND then the makeup game against the dreaded Mets.
Love the lovely time everyone is having today. Our weather was just grand. Then a couple of the painters came to replace a 4'x8' outside panel on the house and found lots of wood rot from moisture seeping in for years. But angels that they are, they dug it all out, cut many pieces of 2'x4' and replaced and shored up everything. Put the new panel on and "caulked" where it should have been at the start. There was a couple of other teensy things they have found wrong, like two of the piers the house sits on were rotting. Initially were going to jack the house up, but we figured out another way. Still a huge amount of work. Oh, and the roof was put on incorrectly...maybe these painters are TOO good. No, actually very happy they had the knowledge and knowhow to fix things. But it sure has made me want a couple of wonderful Sara's cookies and glad she did a double batch or I would never be able to calm my nerves. Happiness to each and every one of you.
I seem to have failed in my commitment to myself to read a story a day. I seem to read in several a day. I am so glad to be reminded of this and certainly plan to do better. And may I repeat what Larry said to Roland - every word from him is a treasure and cheers my day.
Sweet Sara, you certainly have, once again, put out a tasty and beautiful spread of your magical cookies. I have to have one of the pineapple coconut. My day goes on with my wonderful house painters doing the very best job I have ever seen. What fun they are to talk to also. OH, and today, just as I was 100' from my driveway, 3 deer crossed in front of me (not a big deal around here - it's all you can do to not hit one), but then, wait....2 turkey hens with about 20+ chicks milling around them. I have no idea how the momma's keep so many chicks in line, but they do. I just stopped and watched and enjoyed so much just watching them. Good day.
My brother and I said goodbye today for this trip "home". After three years it has been wonderful to have him around. Close since childhood we spend a lot of time hugging and laughing. Can't get any better. Best part, since I'm no longer interested in cooking, was we had a lot of meals out. He's on his way south to the Northern Neck with relatives and friends to get a fishing charter in the Chesapeake Bay. Nice. Good day and lovely to see friends here. Love you all for brightening my day.
I am still stunned. Stunned, I say. The Nats beat the Mets 3 out of 4 games in the series. I must not scream and jump around, but this was a real baseball game today with so much excitement. It may even move us from the bottom of the standings (for a short while).

So, in an effort to revive my muse, I am trying to write a micro (100 or fewer words) every day. It might last a week or a month, not sure. Some will go here, some may not be appropriate and go to a sister site.

First one on Stories Space is now up.

https://www.storiesspace.com/stories/micro-fiction/-the-target-.aspx

Scott, I want to join you. But every time I start to write my brain leaves my body. But it would be fun if I could write one or two. Thanks for the idea.

Hi everyone!!!

Jeff, I got us a virtual liquor license for the 'Inspirators Coffee Shop,' but we can not have virtual booze on Sundays between 7 am thru 8:30 am. So everyone take notes.

I will not be able to get online till the 21 June.

I wonder how this close call at SS will affect us all. I know it has given me a greater understanding of how important you all are to me. You are like my 2nd family.

My dear Roland, your return to this space is one of the happy highlights for us all. Particularly me. Who else would have been so kind as to get a liquor license to go with our wonderful, exquisite cookies and NZ custards and other specialties I can't wait to try. We will only use coffee and tea cups so no one will know what we have added.

Only a few days until 21 June, hope we can have a good report of your trip.

It is amazing here Gill about the cicadas. While we could hardly hear each other outside a couple of weeks ago, and they are still loud when the sun is out and it is hot, they don't exist over the mountain from me. Not a long journey at all. A total mystery. Friends drive over here and can't get over the invasion. I'm sure there a lots of places where they are more numerous than here, but we sure have a plentiful, generous number.

Somehow, the poor old last Washington Nationals have managed to beat the Mets in 2 of the 3 games they have played. I need to take a tonic.

I see infighting is beginning to leak into the threads. I'd love to be able to find a lasting internet home again. A simple thead, people just talking about their day, and maybe talking about writing a little, without animosity or attention whoring.

Wouldn't that be this thread??

I was hoping so, yeah.

Oh dear. No infighting here. No, never. Every single one of us are perfect. I get delight from reading everything they write here. My input is quite limited because my life is so quiet.

Why yesterday's delight was 5 or 6 Carolina Wrens fledging from a wall flower pot that was moved from the wall to lie on a table while Mom was still sitting the 6 little eggs.

Had to use a flashlight to see to the bottom of the nest and they were such a tight pile that I couldn't count them.
Wasn't allowed to sit outside on the covered porch and have my morning coffee without Mom making nasty calls to me to go away.

We have house painters here and they removed everything from the walls and never even noticed the nest inside.

My darling brother is here from AZ/CO for 3 weeks, visiting family and friends. That is exciting since it's been 3 years since I saw him. Dinner tomorrow night with nephews, etc. at my sister's house. Looking forward to that.

He lives in Tucson and decided to build a little house on his friends property so he could become a "snow bird" with that nice cool weather in Montross, CO. Well, no one told him the heat would follow him there and the drought.
He is at the stage of doing plans and permits, etc. with his friend. But decided to take a break and come back "home" to Virginia. He commented "what happened to the Virginia I grew up in? Looks like a jungle here". We have had so much rain.

Okay, now that I have given you a taste of the excitement I enjoy you know why I don't write a lot here. Grin.

My love and hugs to every one of you.
Oh this site has become more and more fun. I love all our great visitors.
Watching the Nationals play ball is a nail biter every single time. But they have managed to hold on to their last place ranking. Deep sigh.

Verbs, sorry for your quest to replace "Justified". Not gonna happen. Magic happened in that show. The lobectomy is probably your best bet.

Cicadas are plastering my area. I assume they were everywhere, but talked to a friend today that lives over the mountain and she has yet to see one. They are so loud outside you can't talk to anyone.

Sara, you were looking for a cicada cookie cutter? I found one (along with other beauties). Help yourself:

Good day to you, Verity. It's so lovely that you bring up Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, By coincidence, I just happened to be in a production of that work as a play on stage here at our local arts theatre. I played the nefarious Child Catcher.

You and "nefarious" are not two words that go together in my mind, but that's acting. I sometimes contemplate seeking out an amateur theater company to try out with but other than a strong voice (mostly used for preaching and other public speaking), not sure if I have any qualities suited to the stage. I live in a city with a fairly strong theatrical tradition so there's plenty happening stage-wise normally.

Moved a small tree/bush today. It was growing in an awkward spot. Not sure how it got there, but it's a Rose of Sharon (a type of hibiscus) and we have a couple others not far away so I guess it depends on how their seeds get spread. Still have some pruning to do but weather is supposed to be nice again tomorrow.

Afternoon tea and cookies time. Kettle is on and Sara says we are well stocked.

Sara is too kind to us all. I often just creep in and steal a few of the world class cookies she provides.

And Scott, you made me laugh at not thinking of Larry with "nefarious", there is so much to know about him.

Also the Rose of Sharon bush - lovely and hardy as they come. I am surprised you got the long straight root dug up.
I had one that I planted many years ago. Terribly neglected, but finally got enough care to send seedlings everywhere. I dug up the little sprouts and planted a hedge across the front on my house next to the street. They grew so fast and are so tall that I had to have someone come in and cut 5' off the top this past fall. If they continue to grow tall they shade the lower part of the plant and it gets thin of leaves and my privacy disappears. Unless you are a giraffe.

Cold today, light rain all day and high of about 55F. You are right about it being more like April or even March.

How fortunate you have the theaters in your city to attend.

My thoughts are with you, Gill. I'm glad the stroke was mild. And I'm glad you're back at your house.

Mets have lost three in a row, and the entire team is injured, as Roland pointed out (hey Roland!). But since we are in first place I won't complain. A Mets/Braves showdown looms this week though. Ready Sara?

Time to write about coyotes. smile Larry, I'm sure you're right, I haven't gotten rid of them. All I wanna do is scare them a few houses down, so they don't use our yard as their entree into the neighborhood.

Did I use entree right? I think that needs an umlaut or something.

Coffee and a kaiju cookie please!

Verbs, I keep focusing on your coyote problem. Reading about your desire to run them down a couple of houses, has it occurred to you to try leaving meat bait down at those houses? Use a bow and arrow and send some in their back yards.. Every few days or weeks should keep them coming to there houses to check.

I just read if you want to get rid of ground dwelling yellowjackets and don't know where the nest is. take raw chicken pieces and screw them into a board that you lay parallel to a tub of water that is within an inch of the raw chicken.
The hornets come in and land on the chicken, but when flying out, they always fall in the water (which you have added a little dish soap). Guy caught 900 in 3 hours. Who knew they go for raw meat?

I am a great student of nature.

Oh, and never worry about your placement in the Standings. The Nats will keep last place for the foreseeable future. Sadly.
