Grrrr.

No Opening Day, and now no Mets baseball til Monday. For the Nats fans out there the news may be even worse, though I think they are scheduled to play Monday as well.

So, the entire baseball is playing this weekend EXCEPT the Mets and Nats.

I'm grumpy. I guess out outing this weekend will be the movies instead of a game.

Congrats on your Padres, Larry. Sorry about your D-Backs, Bill.

Coffee and a cookie please.
Wah! First day of 5he regular season and the Mets-Nats game is POSTPONED!!! Covid precautions. No game scheduled for tomorrow, so Mets opening day will be Saturday. Double-wah!

Ah well. I can't get my MLB subscription to work anyway, as I try to tune in the Yankees-Bjays game. So this gives me 48 hours to figure out why they aren't recognizing my account.

So, I guess with no baseball, it's just a beautiful day outside, which should be enough. But I am still disappointed.

Coffee and a non-baseball cookie please.

EDIT: MLB.tv isn't broadcasting the video of games today, just audio, I suppose in an attempt to get us to watch ESPN, which I don't have. So, no Mets, and no games on TV today. I am, to put it mildly, annoyed.

hi peeps
A absolutely beautiful day outside
A large iced tea sounds yummy in my tummy

Excited for the spring weather and
BASEBALL TOMORROW

Hi Jeff those sound like FUN plans..
I'm not a mascot but I would sure love a peep or two !

Hi Bill glad to hear the valley of the Sun is a dull roar... Wait til baseball and it will get loud and rowdy I'm sure

Hi Larry the tea is YUMMY! how is the planting coming!

*peeking in the cookie jars * we are in good shape!
*giving the adorable mascots fresh water *
Have a great day everyone!

Sweet, sexy Sara. Coolish and rainy day and supposed to be downright cold for the next couple. If you can do anything to bring back sunny warm weather for baseball season, I'd appreciate it. You know that the Nats opening game tomorrow is against the mighty Mets. And for some reason I read the President is not going to be throwing out the first ball. Which is always does for the Nationals Oh well. Love your cookies so much.

Ha! Nats vs. Mets! I don't think the guy is senile or anything, but I can't imagine Biden getting the ball halfway to home plate. And then we'd have to watch footage of the attempt for weeks.

We have a bet, right, Elizabeth? Loser has to write a micro praising the other team! Get your pencil sharpened!

An iced decaf, please.

(subliminal message to Ping: join us... join us..)
Baseball starts TOMORROW!

It's sunny out, if a bit cold. The weather is supposed to go into full tilt summer for the next several days though! We have at least one outing planned, perhaps three: go out to a bar to watch a baseball game, go to a theater to see Kong vs. Zilla, go out to a restaurant for breakfast (something we used to always do pre-Covid). We won't do all those things. But at least one - now that my back is better, I gotta get out of the house.

Ping, Ping, Ping, you Magnificent Bastard! You gonna show up? I guess I gotta go send you an email. We can start a thread together! Ping and Verbal's Big Page of Movies!

Okay. Time to settle into the day. A coffee and a cookie please. I bought Easter treats for all the mascots - Peeps!

Enjoy the day all.

A sympathetic salute to all Monday Moaners.

For I say unto you, the real challenge is to predict any sports season's big losers. Therefore and for what it's worth, the cracked Inspirations brain trust is proud to unveil...

BASEBALL'S BOTTOM-FEEDERS, 2021 ed.

So here's the deal, for now. Your challenge, whether you choose to accept it or slink off to a more serious thread, is to pick and then post on Inspirations, this year's baseball 'losers' -- that is to say the teams you think will end the regular season with the worst won-loss record in the six MLB divisions.

Later, Inspirators.

Cool idea, Bill. I'll take a stab at it. Pirates will be the worst team in baseball, I predict, with a record of 54-108. I'm guessing I won't remember this contest, but hopefully someone will.

Yesterday's awesome weather is slowly leaking away, and it's supposed to snow later. But, it will be in the 60s again this weekend, and baseball begins in 2 days, so I'll survive.

And speaking of the weekend, GODZILLA VS. KONG opens tomorrow-ish. You gonna see it in the movie theater, Scott? Anyone? Talia is willing to go to a theater to see it, so we might, though curling up and watching it on HBO is mighty appealing. We shall see.

Time to write. Coffee and a cookie would be lovely. Hi to Molly and Victor and Miss Puff, and to ALL the Inspirators!

She was an interesting lady, Jessica Walter.

I'll have the coffee out soon, never fear. And there is the hot water for your tea, Scott.

Now I need to check the lineup of stories on the home page.

Oh, by the way, it seems that Ping may be making a reappearance here on SS. The newest member on the site is Ping_Redux.

Ping is back? Ping!? Don't tease me if it isn't true.

Baseball is on, Mets vs Cards, but with the regular season so close it seems silly to watch pre-season games. So we'll wait til Thursday.

I didn't write crap last week, though I kept planning too. Back kept me too uncomfortable to get any kind of rhythm. I plan to get my 900 words in today though.

An absolutely gorgeous day today. Hope you catch some of THIS weather Sara. Supposed to snow tomorrow though. And be back in the 60s by Thursday. What a weird state my adopted home is. I do love it here.

I'll take a coffee and a mouse shaped cookie. And give a big Calvin shaped cookie to the Magnificent B*stard himself!

Oh, and a question: I've met Molly the monkey. How are the other mascots? I was told once, but my wild misspent youth destroyed too many brain cells for me to remember.

I'm getting pretty excited myself about opening day. Juan Soto. Just sayin'. The Nats don't always reach their potential but every year it a new start and new beginning. With fervent hope.

That is what makes baseball so great. The nature of the sport (injuries, trades, inconsistent players through a daily grind of 162 games in approximately 185 days) makes it possible for almost any team to make the play-offs.
By the end of spring training, most players do believe their team could come out on top. Here are my predictions for 2021: {projected wins - projected wins are +/- 3}

NL East - 1st Mets {92}, 2nd Braves {91}, 3rd Nationals {84}, 4th Phillies {81}, 5th Marlins {70}
NL Central - 1st Cubs {88}, 2nd Cardinals {86}, 3rd Reds {83}, 4th Brewers {82}, 5th Pirates {58}
NL West - 1st Dodgers {102}, Padres (92}, 3rd Diamondbacks {76}, 4th Giants {73}, 5th Rockies {63}

AL East - 1st Yankees {95}, 2nd Blue Jays {87} and Rays {87}, 4th Red Sox {79}, 5th Orioles {64}
AL Central - 1st White Sox {91}, 2nd Twins {88}, 3rd Indians {79}, 4th Royals {73}, 5th Tigers {66}
AL West - 1st Athletics {88}, 2nd Astros {87}, 3rd Angels {85}, 4th Mariners {74}, 5th Rangers {66}

Cubs beat the White Sox in 6 games during the World Series! (that is the Cubbie in me speaking, in reality, the White Sox will beat the Dodgers in the World Series)

My gosh... I am such a baseball geek.

Okay. I used to always sit down with the Sunday paper the day before Opening Day to make my predictions. I'll still do that, though opening Day isn't til frikkin THURSDAY!

NLE: Braves
NLC: Cardinals
NLW: Dodgers
WC: Padres

ALE: Spankees
ALC: White Sox
ALW: Stros
WC: As

WS: Dodgers beat Spankees in 6.

Enjoy your day all. Time to write. Coffee and a baseball cookie please.

Roland! Wow! Not even I am picking the Mets to win. I do agree the Dodgers will take the NL. I'll post my predictions before Opening Day.

So sad about Larry McMurtry dying. God, I loved Lonesome Dove. It was even a great mini-series. Read the book three times. A Great American Novel.

The little one is feeling a lot better and she's trying to climb into my lap to see what I'm doing on this laptop. I managed to get 1,000 words written in a story that turned out to be a Christmas story, but I'm still going to finish it. I'm the boss at work for the next week while my manager is on vacation, more like a staycation. I hope the pandemic is lifted and once it is, I'm hitting up Las Vegas hard.

I am so glad your little one is feeling better. I am impressed you got any writing done. I remember those days and I also remember getting little done. I loved my babies but I am happy they are grown now. I am hoping for grandchildren soon though.

I hear ya, Gill. I'm newly freed from the day-to-day responsibilities of parenting, and while I loved doing it, I love this new phase of my life equally. Sadly, I've wasted my freedom this week, my back making me too uncomfortable to write.

Sharon, I'm glad you little one is doing better.

Molly the monkey and I would like to announce we did NOT eat all the cookies after all. We merely wanted to show what a goodness Sara's cookies are by giving you a taste of what the world would be like without them.

6 days til baseball season. I liked it better when Opening Day was always on a Monday.

Coffee and a cookie please.

Takes ALL. THE. COOKIES! and runs away.

Glad to see so many baseball fans here. Who knew? Mets play at 4, but I suspect I will wait for Opening Day to watch any more games. Mets are in Denver next month, I may try to snag tix to the game, if they ever start selling single game seats. If not, we have minor league ball in town, which is both cheaper and WAY easier to attend.

Back is better. Trying to write, with limited success. Can't get comfortable.

Giving a cookie to the monkey because he's so cute. I'll have a cup of decaf.

It's good to start the day with some hot coffee. So that has been done. The brew is ready in the pot now and hot water awaits anyone who needs it.

My CT scan was so good that my oncologist has changed the schedule. I will get my next CT scan in four months instead of three. We are quite pleased with how well the immunotherapy has done for me and the radiation therapy seems to have cut the tumor in the adrenal gland in half. So I must say my doctor thinks I am doing much better than a lot of less fortunate folks do. I don't have to worry about it again until July.

Since my wife and I have both had the Covid-19 Pfizer vaccine we can do things differently now. In about two weeks she will start doing some volunteer work at the community theater. I'll see how I feel and whether I can do any theater work as well.

It's good to see some folks getting back to a semblance of normal.

So glad to hear it. Both the good health news and the fact that you two will be returning to theater.

Sharon, I hope your kid is doing better. I know how tough and worrisome sick kiddos can be.

Back is noticeably better. I'm up and around a little, though I get my ass kicked by the pain after a few minutes.

Still, I'm doing better. I have been to scattered to write this week, but I might give it a shot today.

Baseball in eight days!

I enjoyed the lil monkey hug from yesterday. Anyone need a hug?

Coffee and a cookie would be lovely.

Hello all!

Jeff, sorry to see that your back is giving you so much trouble. Liz has had disc surgery twice. I know that back pain is terrible because it affects everything, and any movement is awful. We are both hoping you are feeling better soon.

Sharon, it is so good to see you here. I like your website, and I am looking forward to any new pieces on SS. Your work is always great.

I got a significant 35% military discount as a retiree on my MLB.com subscription this year. That saved me $44.50 on the price. Since my monthly allowance is $50, that is great. Now I can watch every MLB baseball game for the season.
I had to wait until our stimulus check of $1,400 came in Friday to get it this year. Has anyone else got the stimulus money yet from the Covid relief bill that passed?

After having a below-average weekend, I a feeling much better today. I will peruse the cookies for my sugar high and have some herbal tea.

It is so nice to spend time with friends.

Thanks for the well wishes Roland. Things re still pretty bad today, but should begin improving soon. I hope. This is really frikkin boring.

I've got that MLB subscription too, though no military discount. Watching the game now. 4-3 Mets. Lindor is en fuego.

Coffee and cookies and monkey hugs please (when Talia and I rub each other's heads we call it "monkey scritches").

Peace all.

Happy first day of spring! It's a sunny day but a bit chilly here. The daffodils are all up and blooming, my tulips aren't far behind.

My husband and I are on the waiting list for a shot. Since we have both had Covid I am not as concerned about when we get the shot. NIH does some interesting studies. One shows that people who have had Covid can have a more robust response to the first shot. I am hoping that is not the case. I've had enough of Covid symptoms to last a lifetime. I still cannot smell or taste properly and the fatigue still hanging on is upsetting at times.

I am thankful my parents have been vaccinated and we can now visit more regularly. I have a lot to be thankful for. My youngest son is settling nicely in Vancouver. His girlfriend is working and studying for her master's degree in Germany for now. She will be joining him in the late summer or fall.

I am looking forward to when we can travel again. I miss visiting my husband's family in Newfoundland and we would love to go see our son in Vancouver as well. Hopefully, we can do both of those in the not-so-distant future.

Today is bread baking day. We are making raisin molasses bread and I am attempting brioche bread for the first time.

I'll take a couple of cookies to keep up my energy.

Have a great weekend everyone!

It's nice to see your life (everybody's life!) start to slowly loosen up. Glad you are looking forward to seeing family in the future. We are actually discussing the honeymoon again! A truncated version anyway - a train trip in a sleeper car out to Kali and up the left coast.

My back is out. Wah! Talia had to help me pee this morning. That's true love! So my day will consist of baseball and reading and testing my ability to get to the bathroom.

I hope everyone is well. I see there are some new stories on the front page, I will try to get to them today. I would love a cup of coffee and a handful of cookies. And a hug from that lil monkey!
Talia got her appointment for her first shot. I finally got around to registering for it and was put on a waiting list. Still, we should both be vaccinated soon. So nice to see this long nightmare beginning to (maybe, hopefully) end.

Not much going on today. I'm a little crabby. Mets have a 2-0 lead.

A cup of coffee and a banana cookie would hit the spot!

Hey everyone. I've known about this place for a while, but I don't believe I've ever actually popped in to say hi. I need to start making mental notes to visit this site more often.

How are we all?

Hello Laura! Nice to see you!

One last Happy Birthday for Bill!

Busy day! Dropping a short story today on Amazon, I'll put a link up in the promotions thread soon.

There's also a baseball game starting in about 5 minutes. Lindor is starting to heat up for the Mets!

And I'm going back to visit the old house and hang out with my daughter for the afternoon. Fun!

Other than that, some coffee, cookies, and a little cuddle from the monkey, and I'll be good to go.

Enjoy your day all.
Yesterday's snow never materialized, which is a good thing. Partly sunny outside, and nice.

I made shaved beef sandwiches last night. Lotsa mushrooms and peppers. Basically Philly cheesesteaks without the cheese. smile They were REALLY good. Talia was impressed.

Lazy day today. Not even bothering with the game - I need to see one where the wins and losses count. Soon.

Molly the monkey ate all my cookies yesterday. Can I have all hers today?

Coffee would be awesome.

I'm a big NO in the pineapple on pizza debate, though one of my daughters loves it. She had a good upbringing, I don't know what happened to her.

Bill: Talia and I are fine here in the wilds of Colorado (I saw you ask elsewhere). HUGE snowstorm, and I had to do some driving in it yesterday, but I survived unscathed. Snow is melting rapidly today, although it's supposed to snow AGAIN tonight.

Watching baseball and getting ready to write. Spring training is getting boring: I need the REAL THING! 14 days.

I've got a short story coming out on Amazon Thursday. Anyone know if it's cool to mention here? I don't want to break the rules.

Sorry about the weather you are about to get, Sara. I'll add insult to injury and take a huge handful of cookies as I politely ask for a cup of coffee.

Jeff, there is a special forum area for posting about your publishing accomplishments. It is this: https://forum.storiesspace.com/yaf_topics18_Sing-Your-Own-Praises.aspx

That place was created just for posting about your special publishing efforts in addition to announcing the posting of a new story if you wish.

Time for my last cuppa coffee.

Thanks Larry. I'll post it there on Thursday.

That mischievous lil monkey ate ALL the banana cookies! It wasn't me!!! Can I have some more please?

Morning to all confused daylight savings timers. You'd think I'd enjoy these time changes if only because Arizona does not observed daylight savings since the prevailing opinion is that the last thing needed around here is more daylight. While that is, imo, a goodness, the downside is the Pacific Coast time zoners have done gone and sprung forward. Bottom line is we're on the same time as California and three hours behind east coast time. (sigh)

Here's hoping the rest of y'all enjoy all that extra sunshine.

Jeff, what's the 'sick call' like today in your place?

Coffee's cooking and the tea kettle is, what else, kettling. Sarah's baseball themed sugar cookies sound perfect for serious coffee dunkin'. Think I'll grab a few, then fill my mug with the good stuff and go sit in a comfy chair near the heater.

Later, Inspirators.

Talia is fine, she just had a headache of unknown origin that stole away her Saturday. I took care of her, we watched movies and old TV shows. Things cleared up the next day.

Not much up here. I submitted the first two chapters to the novel critique group. Now I have to wait a month, nervously, to hear their reaction.

No Mets game. Sigh. The REAL THING starts in 15 days though.

Coffee and a banana cookie please. I'll split my cookie with that cute lil monkey.

BASEBALL THEMED COOKIES!!! I'll take a handful please.

My novel critique group went well. I still feel like kind of an imposter in there, they are all SO good, but they seemed to like my critique. They look at my writing for the first time next month. I'm a little scared.

Anyway. Talia woke up with a horrible headache, and its snowy and cold out, so I think we are going to seriously chill for the rest of the day. Maybe the rest of the weekend.

Take care all. I'd love a decaf coffee to go. Time to tend to my amorata.
The game is starting as I type these words! Let's go Mets!

Larry, I have been lazy in seeking out a Covis shot. Talia has registered already, though no shot yet. I haven't done squat, but will figure it out next week.

Big snowstorm hitting in about 8 hours. I'm gonna write ALL DAY LONG. We'll snuggle up in front of the fireplace this evening as our date night. I have a novel critique group tomorrow, and I'm a little nervous (I'm not being critiqued, I'm just critiquing).

A coffee and a baseball cookie, if there are any (and if there aren't, can you please make some Sara?).

Isn't your avatar the answer? I.e. Kaiju get unleashed.

Sounds like an interesting story. I am writing again but the story is being unusually resistant to my efforts to make the scenario sensible without a raft of expository paragraphs.

Turns out not that much happens. If you drop a bomb in an active volcano it'll just melt. Who knew? If you detonate just above the volcano, it'll shear off the top half of the mountain and evaporate the lava, and they'll be a really deadly plume, but it's a pretty local effect. EMP and radiation and it'd be awful for anyone/anything in the way, but nothing close to world ending.

Except for ALL THE KAIJU DEATH BATS it unleashes! You didn't think I'd pass up an opportunity for kaiju, did you? smile

I'll have another one of those marshmallow bar/cookies and a coffee while I hang out with my little monkey friend (not a euphemism).

Have an excellent day everyone.
I'd love a butterscotch marshmallow bar cookie. Is it both a bar AND a cookie?

No Mets game today, at least not one I can see or hear. Roland, they are making a bunch of weird rule changes, but I don't know of that one. The one that gets my goat is the runner automatically on second once a game goes into extra innings, at the beginning of every half inning, Grrrrr....

I went to the dentist this morning, fully expecting a root canal. He said to wait and see, the minor toothache I have may go away on its own. Yay!

Time to write. And figure out what happens when a small nuclear bomb is dropped into a volcano.

Coffee and that aforementioned cookie please. Now where did my little monkey friend go? I LOVE monkeys.

Well, I finally got around to making some coffee. It was a good thing no one else was thirsty this morning. Now I need to get over to the pharmacy. I have a couple of prescriptions that I need to pick up. Everyone have a good day.

I'll take some of that coffee!

I have a toothache sad. Just made an appointment for 11 tomorrow. I don't like the dentist, but I like toothaches even less.

As for today: Mets Spring training game at 11, and the last 15 pages of the latest story to edit and sweat over, and consider turning into a novel.

Coffee and a cookie from the emergency cookie jars (which are alleged to be filled to the tippy top!).

Have a good morning all.
Congrats on the girlfriend, Xander.

We won't be in the high 80s, like Bill, but we crept past 65 degrees. Spring is in the air.

Long frikkin day, with several hours to go. I think the time for coffee has passed, but I'd love a iced tea and a gingerbread lady cookie.

I hope everyone is well.

Well, that lil monkey and I have some things in common! I love banana cookies too!

My dose of weirdness for the day: I got an email invite to a "telephonic thriller" where, if you buy a $35 ticket, you will get a phone call at a pre-determined time, which you are supposed to answer in a dark room, by yourself. It's supposed to be Twilight Zone-y and scary. I'm pretty sure it's legit, a theater is sponsoring it. I think we're gonna do it. Probably on speakerphone. smile

I am a no on the espresso machine. I am happy with the current cuppa joe.

Coffee and a banana cookie please. And one for my new little monkey friend.

Pretty gutsy to sign up for the "telephonic thriller". I have fingers crossed that it will be well done and with theater backing, it should be. Please keep each other safe.

And I vote no on the espresso machine for myself only. If someone else wants to come in and brew some, fine with me.

There's even a safe word :), for if you get too scared during the call. They asked for my pronouns too, meaning they must personalize the experience in some way. Anyway, I'm psyched.

So cool to be writing with the game on in the background. Talia and I are going out to buy a new rug for my office later!

Got a story rejected this morning. Via form email, no less. sad

Coffee and a peanut butter and jelly cookie would be heaven.
