Mets lost a boring game yesterday, to the Cubs. Still have a tenuous hold on first place, but come on boys! Score some runs!
I'll avoid being political, but I will say that lately, when things looked dark in the US, it was the courts who pulled us through, as they did with the verdict yesterday. Democracy lives for another day. God bless America.

Every day is a new challenge, good and bad. My youngest grandson, Gabriel, had a fun dinner sneaking two pieces of bacon off my plate. He did not know I saw him as he gobbled them down, and he was so happy. Gabriel loves bacon. He is like me with daily challenges; he has severe non-verbal autism. He is the joy of my life. Sara's Mets played the Cubs this weekend in an explosive set of games. Saturday, the Cubs smashed the Metros 13-4, but on Sunday, the Mets came right back, pummeling the Cubs 13-4. It was a symmetrical weekend. Larry's Padres may have lost the series to the Dodgers but showed how talented the team is. They could win the central division, but unfortunately, the only team better than them is the Dodgers. I think the Padres are the favorite to be the NL wildcard team. If you want to watch a young, exciting team, the Whitesox are just what you need. They are where the Cubs were in 2015 with better pitching.
Jeff, did your cookies have pictures of pitchers? It would fit in with your love of baseball and your talent at wordplay.
Sara, I am so glad to hear about your improvement.
BTW peeps are not the tasty chick treat, are they? If so, I will eat them all up. I am almost addicted to those little buggers. <rubbing hands together hungrily>

Mets game tonight, if it doesn't get snowed out. We have a tenuous hold on first place, entering today.
I'd love a coffee and a delicious cookie. I bought Molly a healthy can of monkey chow, so she doesn't spoil her health with all these cookies.

Molly the monkey and I have brought cookies!
She felt bad about stealing them. I mostly felt bad because of the ensuing tummy ache. But whether due to high morals or gastrointestinal distress, we decided to give back to the coffee shop that greets us each morning.
We aren't as gifted as Sara, so only made simple sugar cookies with icing. But the icing is in all sorts of groovy colors, and we drew pictures!
That was a good series Larry. The Dodgers are gonna be a monster this year, and the Dads made that series close. Mets didn't do to poorly either.
Okay, time to write.

Talie and I just got back from spending the night in Denver with friends. The Mets were in town too, for a double header, but we just watched the games at a bar because it was WAY too cold to go to the actual game in person. We split the games: lost one, won one.

But Talia is making supper, and after that I will kick back and watch the rubber game of the series through the magic of archived games on MLB.TV, so all ie well in the world.

Talia and I and a good friend of ours all just got our first shots! Second shot on May 7th!
And here's a shocker: the Mets were rained out yesterday, and are snowed out today. That's SEVEN postponed games so far this season.
Oh well, they are in first place, so I'll quit complaining. At least there will be a double header tomorrow. Weirdly, they will play with the DH. Not sure why - worried aout injuries to pitchers I assume.

Tell ya what, if I ever get out there and we meet up, you and I can watch kaiju movies and our partners can go off and do something together. Mine would rather watch paint dry, too. Unfortunately, my son took after her in the end. Started off well, watching the Star Wars series and reading a lot of YA s-f and fantasy (Hunger Games, Harry Potter) but then kind of switched to being more like his mother.
Works for me. Destroy All Monsters is all queued up.
GvKK was REALLY good. They understand the genre: you need a movie that doesn't take itself seriously, but pretends to take itself seriously. Plus, a hollow earth AND a throwback to one of the old school monsters, and I was hooked. Maybe the success of GvKK will jumpstart the monsterverse. Hint: Ghidorah dies in the last movie, but THEY KEPT HIS DNA!!!!
It was also a fun father-daughter outing. And I came home to watch another Mets win! 5-3 on the young season, with Elizabeth's Gnat's and Sara's Bravos hot on our heels. Larry, I do not envy you playing the Dodgers.

I liked adding the first Wild Card spot for the playoffs. The larger bases thing, which hasn't happened yet, is to make baserunning easier, which I agree would be a good thing. And I actually LIKE the shift, because it results in a lot more strategy, both offensively and defensively.
In other news: I got an appointment for my first shot on Friday!

The Mets finally played a game! Two in fact, and we won them both! So nice to have baseball back. The only downside is that the first game showed off two of my most hated rule changes (Bil and Roland will, i think, agree): the 7 inning game during a double header, and (be still my heart, how I hate this new rule) any extra innings begin with a runner on second each half inning. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Takes all the magic out of extra innings.
But I digress.

I haven't mentioned it anywhere but it is rather disturbing that no one can seem to make it onto the 'all pick's list' anymore. I used to be on it consistently because I so often had stories for my readers to comment on and score. But, for some reason, I've not had any pieces on the list for something like over a month now. And it is not just me. No one seems to be able to get the scores needed to get onto the list.
Anyway, Bill, you had a great piece. I was happy to score it.
Time for another cuppa java before Victor needs to go out on his noon walk.
My story Grandma's House was a story pick for a month. I assumed the criteria was 10 votes, and that the story is only there for a month.
The Mets are allegedly playing today. A double header. I'll believe it when I see it.

One of the great things about the no-hitter that Joe Musgrove threw was that the Padres were the team he grew up watching and rooting for. He for born in El Cajon, a suburb of San Diego but only got to play for the Padres since he was traded in January with a 30-38 record.
My mother and her family had a greenhouse in El Cajon back in the war years. Then in the 50s my mom and dad moved us from Arkansas out to San Diego. I lived in Chula Vista and National City but we left before the city got its team.
Now, happily, the Friars have only one record to break in MLB. They still need to win the World Series. They've won two pennants but no series. It would be cool if Musgrove, a rather mediocre pitcher, could help the team make it to the series again this year. One can hope.
Too cool, Larry. The Mets only have one no hitter. I was in an airport when it happened so never got to see it. The pitcher (Santana) blew out his arm in the outing, in typical Mets fashion, and never really pitched effectively again.
Scott, Godzilla, King of the Monsters is my fave of all the modern ones (STILL haven't seen G vs KK yet). Enjoy it, Gill. We're now loking at going on Tuesday. I REALLY want to see it in a theater.

It was a beautiful day here, sunny and about 70. The best part was having my parents come for Easter dinner. Since they have both been fully vaccinated and my husband and I have had Covid and our first shot we felt comfortable having them over. We were still careful and did not have anyone else. My mother said it was the first time she has felt normal in a year and cried. Their retirement community is over 90 percent vaccinated so they are resuming some in-person social events. It has made such a difference in my father's mood and thus my mother is less stressed. I am thankful for all of that.
I hope everyone had a good weekend.

Mets finally play today. Hopefully. I think Elizabeth's Nats might have to wait even longer for her team to emerge from quarantine. EDIT: Oooh, just looked, and Sara's Braves have three days off too, because they're playing the Nats! I hope the ripples are contained by Thursday!

Oooh, tough weekend, Sara. Swept by the Phillies. I actually listened to most of that last game - a heartbreaker! Of course, the Phillies face the Mets tomorrow, so now they'll get some real competition.

We have a ticket to the scary phone call thing tomorrow. I don't know if I've mentioned it here or not, but at 8 tomorrow we are supposed to be in a dark room with a phone. Someone will call, and it will be scary. It's called "claws." That's all I know. They even provided a safe word for if we get too scared. We're supposed to be on headphones, but we are cheating and doing it on speakerphone, cuz tickets are $35!!!
And, AFTER the call, I will finally sit down and watch my first Mets game of the year, pre-recorded.
Enjoy the end of the weekend everyone. I'll have a bunny butt cookie please.

Wah! First day of 5he regular season and the Mets-Nats game is POSTPONED!!! Covid precautions. No game scheduled for tomorrow, so Mets opening day will be Saturday. Double-wah!
Ah well. I can't get my MLB subscription to work anyway, as I try to tune in the Yankees-Bjays game. So this gives me 48 hours to figure out why they aren't recognizing my account.
So, I guess with no baseball, it's just a beautiful day outside, which should be enough. But I am still disappointed.

So here's the deal, for now. Your challenge, whether you choose to accept it or slink off to a more serious thread, is to pick and then post on Inspirations, this year's baseball 'losers' -- that is to say the teams you think will end the regular season with the worst won-loss record in the six MLB divisions.

Cool idea, Bill. I'll take a stab at it. Pirates will be the worst team in baseball, I predict, with a record of 54-108. I'm guessing I won't remember this contest, but hopefully someone will.
Yesterday's awesome weather is slowly leaking away, and it's supposed to snow later. But, it will be in the 60s again this weekend, and baseball begins in 2 days, so I'll survive.
And speaking of the weekend, GODZILLA VS. KONG opens tomorrow-ish. You gonna see it in the movie theater, Scott? Anyone? Talia is willing to go to a theater to see it, so we might, though curling up and watching it on HBO is mighty appealing. We shall see.

Baseball is on, Mets vs Cards, but with the regular season so close it seems silly to watch pre-season games. So we'll wait til Thursday.
I didn't write crap last week, though I kept planning too. Back kept me too uncomfortable to get any kind of rhythm. I plan to get my 900 words in today though.
An absolutely gorgeous day today. Hope you catch some of THIS weather Sara. Supposed to snow tomorrow though. And be back in the 60s by Thursday. What a weird state my adopted home is. I do love it here.

Roland! Wow! Not even I am picking the Mets to win. I do agree the Dodgers will take the NL. I'll post my predictions before Opening Day.
So sad about Larry McMurtry dying. God, I loved Lonesome Dove. It was even a great mini-series. Read the book three times. A Great American Novel.
