Teaseer for the new Superman is out. I'm not really a big fan of Supes (more a Dark Knight guy) but I'm seeing some positive buzz around it. It's made by James Gunn of Guardian of the Galaxy fame, who is now in charge of DC's cinematic universe. Someone unfamiliar to me named David Corenswet is playing Clark Kent/Superman. He looks the part, at least.

I'll always watch anything, Frankenstein.

That's the Guillermo del Toro one, right? Him doing Frankenstein, or any classic monster, intrigues me. Could be interesting.

I was a bit meh on the Branagh Frankenstein, aka Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, which is the last adaptation that I saw. Like Coppola's "Bram Stoker's" Dracula, it hit many of the right notes but some of the modern interpolations just didn't land as well as the ones in Dracula. Both overstated their fidelity to the original, even if they came closer than many previous adaptations.

It is Guillermo del Toro. There was a television version in the 70s before Branagh's. As a teenager, I loved it. Going through some old DVDs I discovered I have a copy of it. I'm going to give it a rewatch.

Maggie Glynnhall has directed The Bride with Christian Bale. It looks good too.

One of the most interesting adaptations of Dracula I have watched is Netflix's three-episode series.

New Marvel teaser out and, while I have largely given up on the MCU, this looks promising. It seems to be its own thing rather than tied tightly to the rest of the MCU and really looks like a live action Fantastic Four comic. That said, this is the third attempt at doing the FF on screen and the others ... yeah, kinda sucked. Maybe they'll get it right this time, though??

I cannot wait to see Sinners with Michael B. Jordan and I heard they are making Nobody 2. If you've never seen Nobody and you like action movies you'll love it because it's just fun.

I love the musical Wicked and have seen it three times, but I am always leery of movie adaptations. The movie version is streaming, so I'll probably watch it this weekend. I hope it isn't a repeat of the movie version of Cats. That wasn't very good.

Definitely been getting better reviews than Cats. I saw Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande perform at the Oscars and they handled the music pretty well (I have been a bit skeptical of Grande doing a big musical but her voice is actually up to it). And Erivo, who play Elphaba, is dripping in talent and accolades.

I have known for a while that Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, one of the masters of modern gothic and horror (Pan's Labyrinth, Crimson Peak, The Shape of Water), was doing Frankenstein. The first trailer is out. Looks very very good, but the devil will be in the details.

Life of Chcuk. It's based on a Stephen King novella.

He also has an adaptation of his novel, The Institute, which was made into a limited series. Of course, that one will be on one of the streaming services I don't subscribe to.

I am very impressed with King. He is still going strong at 77, pumping out new fiction and keeping a finger on the pulse of various media adaptations of his work. And his son Joe (under the pen name of Joe Hill) is possibly even better than him. He has spawned the first family of horror, I would say.

I agree. His son, Owen King, is a good writer as well. I enjoyed the book they collaborated on, Sleeping Beauties. The number of adaptations that have been done is impressive. They do vary in quality.

I was pleased to read that Mike Flanagan, who wrote and directed Doctor Sleep, Gerald's Game, and The Life of Chuck, has acquired the rights to the Dark Tower series. A movie was made a few years ago, but it was not a good adaptation. Mike Flannagan wants it to be a series, which is a better format for such a complex series. He has done a few series for Netflix that I enjoyed, but he has moved to Amazon. He is also adapting Carrie into a series. He's a busy man.

I was excited to see that a new adaptation of Salem's Lot was made, and I recently watched it on HBO Max. It wasn't very good. Mike Flannagan was not involved in that production.

I have heard of it. I am a fan of the Tobe Hooper mini-series. Scared me something fierce when I made the mistake of watching some of it while babysitting late at night. Which tells you how old it is given that was probably high school and I'm now more than 40 years out of high school. And I love the novel. One of my favourite Kings given that my peak King reading coincided with my fascination with vampires.
