We just finished watching Say Nothing about Ireland and The Troubles. Excellent show.

Finished Disclaimer too. It held us until it jumped the shark at the very end. Goofy plot choices to add some “action” to a story that didn’t need it.

About to start Bad Sisters season 2.

I loved the first season of Bad Sisters. We no longer have Apple TV plus, but I may splurge just to watch the second season. There are too many streaming services these days and they've all turned into what we all hated about cable. You have to pay so much more to get rid of the ads. It's so frustrating. I watched Alien Romulus. It was okay. If you liked the Alien movies you would probably enjoy it, but there was nothing new or groundbreaking, at least not that I could tell. I may have dozed off halfway through. 😃

I haven't seen one since Alien 3 came out. Big fan of the first two, though, and this one falls in between them in terms of the in-universe chronology so might partake someday.

I have a bunch of concerts in a playlist on YouTube that i want to get to now that I have a decent soundbar on my TV. Mostly metal, needless to say.

"The Day of the Jackal." I have always liked Eddie Redmayne; a model and actor. He usually plays sweet, gentle characters very well. It's surprising to see him play a very serious contractor who kills but he does a great job in this miniseries.

I have read the novel. Brilliant thriller by Frederick Forsyth. Have not seen the 1973 faithful film or the 1997 one that was so unfaithful that Forsyth made them change the title to just The Jackal. Is the TV version a faithful period adaptation (i.e. Charles de Gaulle is the target) or some kind of updating (as the 1997 film was)?

Jackal is primarily Bristish. Though his home is in Spain, he travels all over; Croatia and I think Estonia being another place. Headquarters is in Britain and New York is another place where people meet. The miniseries is set present day. I hope that answered your question, Mendalla.

Regarding Jackal being based off a novel, I have found lately more than a few shows and movies are basing them off novels. They are also doing sequels. Could Hollywood be running out of ideas?

Edit: The Jackal is the main target in the sense agent(s) are trying to kill him. He is always escaping by clever means and killing others. It’s streaming on Peacock if you want to watch it.

Man on the Inside is SO GOOD. I binged most of it last night. You know that cliche about how you'll laugh and you'll cry? Well, I definitely did, and within the first episode. Gentle, loving writing on that show. And Ted Danson is a national treasure.

It deals with growing old, and Alzheimer's, so if that's a trigger, then don't. But it handles the subjects beautifully. It triggered me in good ways.

I saw the description and thought, nope. Maybe later I can watch it; some things are still too raw. I love Ted Danson.

I have watched two episodes of Dune: Prophecy. It's okay, but I may not watch it all.

Well, I finished Gilmore Girls so I was really looking forward to A Year in the Life. I so wish I hadn't seen that. It was a total assassination of everything the whole 7 seasons had built. I couldn't believe that it was written by the same people. I so wish I could erase those six hours from my memory. (I don't really, bearing in mind my recent competition entry!)

Gilmore girls was the only show where I had become totally absorbed with the characters, I literally laughed with them and cried with them. They should have left well alone. 😢

I started Paradise on Hulu. It's got my attention, but I don't want to watch all the episodes yet since it is going to end on a cliffhanger. Luckily, they have said there will be a second season.

Watched this Spotify roundtable yesterday. Three women vocalists from rock/metal bands discussing music, being a woman in a masculine world, and other topics. Good discussion even if you're not into the music (I am a fan of two of them and do listen to the other from time to time).

The women are:

Courtney LaPlante - vocalist in Canadian metal band Spiritbox

I've been watching a lot of documentaries lately. The most recent ones have been on Netflix. Poop Cruise, about a cruiseship that loses power afteran engine fire and the appalling conditions that the passengers had to put up with until the ship could be towed to shore.

The other one is about Grenfell. An apartment building in the UK that went up in flames and killed a lot of people. The cause was a material that should never have been put on any building.

There is nothing like a disturbing documentary to brighten up your day. At least it is better than watching the news.

Watched a couple concerts from last week's Hellfest, big rock and metal festival in France. The Warning (Mexican power trio consisting of three sisters) and The Hu (Mongol folk metal).

I'm watching a series on Apple Plus called Smoke about an arson investigator trying to solve two serial arsonist cases while juggling personal problems.

Season Two of Elsbeth is running here at the moment. The story lines are quite weak but entertaining. However, Carrie Preston is wonderful as Elsbeth Tascioni. She is an absolute joy to watch.

Watching 2nd season of SG-1

Watching The Fall, and on our next to last episode. Gillian Anderson vs. a serial killer. She's perfect in this.

Also watching Smoke. And for comfort watch in these fraught times: The West Wing. Ear candy for liberals, my first wife always called it.

I loved her in the X-Files but have never got around to The Fall.

Hopefully watching a livestream concert on Saturday. My favourite singer is at one of the biggest metal festivals in Europe, if not the world, and her set is going to be on their livestream. She's done this festival at least three times as a band member but never solo.

About to start The Institute (Stephen King). It's a good book. The Following, with Kevin Bacon, looks interesting too. I think it's old, but we just discovered it.

I watched 'The Following' awhile ago. I like Kevin Bacon and the supporting actor. I remember really liking it. Hope you and Talia enjoy the show.

I'm watching 'Dexter: Resurrection' with my family. We watched the original 'Dexter' and 'Dexter: Cold Blood' beforehand, although I watched 'Dexter' in college or around that time, but forgot most of the plot. The 'Resurrection' series is on its first season, not yet finished. Apparently it's well received and very popular. According to producer, at least two seasons are in the works. He says they're going to keep going until Michael C. Hall, who plays Dexter, wants to stop.

Technically, not on TV, but... Last week an Amazon package dropped through my door.

Let me explain.

One of my favourite films is Das Boot, the (based on) true story of German submarine U-96 during WWII. It was so well made that the three and a half hour film passes in a flash. That, however, was not what I received.

What came through the door was a double Blu-ray disc, all the way from Germany. It contained the full, six-part original TV show that the movie was cut from.

So, guess what? Yep, you got it. Sunday afternoon was spent watching all six episodes back to back... Five full hours!
