Do you agree with the mission to Mars, would it not be more to the point to spend all those Billions on fixing this planet?

Spending those billions to fix this planet would be far more to the point, in my opinion.

What is the number one chore you would happily never have to do again?
You can't get there from here, because when you get there you're still here and here is now there.

No, I do not think so.
The world would be bettered much more by the advances in science from overcoming the technical difficulties of the proposed mission plus there is no way of even guessing what leaps in knowledge may occur from what is learned there.
The advancement of science for the sake of science is always expensive with no apparent monetary benefit, but the advancement of knowledge can lead to vast improvements in our daily lives.
The mission to the moon made a huge impact in the daily lives of billions of people. It kicked the advancement of electronics and computer technology ahead two decades.
The Apollo spacecraft was the ultimate in computer tech at the time, but within a decade you could buy a calculator for $100 that had more than a thousand times the computer power.
There were huge advancements in understanding the human body under extraordinary environments which lead to advances in medicine.
Humankind is curious for a reason. Increasing knowledge is more valuable at enhancing our lives than anything else. The millions whose lives you may improve now, would turn into billions with the advancements possible.
I have lived long enough to see what the 'Race to the Moon' caused. The same questions were raised then and I have seen the results of those advancements. They were worth ten times what we paid or even more.

Would our world and daily lives be better if science advance much slower? (about 10 times slower; example going from black and white TV to color took 130 years instead of 13 years)

Big umbrella topic there, Roland, science has many branches.

In medical research, science and scientific methods are obliged to advance methodically and to some, it would seem to be quite slow. When a ground breaking research paper is published in a major scientific journal such as Nature or the American Association for the Advancement of Science, for example, the materials and methods are then known and the same results must be obtainable by those working in labs other than those where the work was done in order for the advancement to be fully verified. When it comes to treatments for diseases, testing must be carried out extensively before the results can be put on the market. The cost of testing new medicines is tremendous, as is the amount of time involved, but we've seen the necessity of doing that. The Thalidomide scandal in the 50s and comes to mind in that regard. If it is administered to pregnant women to help curb morning sickness it causes terrible birth defects, yet it is still used as a treatment against other diseases.

In other branches of science, as you cited above, it is different. Even at that, there are checks and balances that must be made, and there are mistakes made along the way that are consigned to the back pages of history books.

As for the question of black and white as opposed to colour, well, as a photographer who still uses film, primarily black and white, and who still does all her own film developing and darkroom printing, I will say, tongue firmly in cheek, that I'm not convinced this colour film business is going to catch on.

Dishes - I really and truly hate washing dishes.

BTW it is wonderful to exchange differing points of views with an intellect individual and look... no insulting innuendoes.
Maybe instead of giving up the Mars mission we can take the money from military expenditures instead.

If you could give up eating or sleeping without affecting your health, which would you pick to do without?

One who can sing well ...

One who dances beautifully ...

One who is gifted at telling stories aloud and is outrageously funny ...

One who loves to cook and would bring a delicious picnic ...

One who appreciates good wine and beer and would provide the necessary drinks - in quantity ...

What was the most recent item you purchased for yourself, either a necessity or something just because you wanted it?
I bought some turpentine this morning... need it to clean brushes.

What would you pack for a delicious picnic?
For a delicious picnic I would pack roasted chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, carrot salad, pickles, a fresh baguette, various cheeses, fruit in season - cherries, strawberries, apricots - walnuts (from my friend who has walnut trees and who shares quite generously), chocolate, cookies, wine, water, thermos flasks of both coffee and tea, and much more.

What place would you want to picnic at?

Who is the most well-known/celebrity/famous person you have ever met?
Hard to say, which is more famous, carlos santana or al jarreau? Met them, and many more while working at the North Sea Jazz festival and several other venues for ten years.

Same question..
If life seems jolly rotten
there's something you've forgotten
and that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing

from Monty Python's "Life of Brian"
hmmm.. depends who you are and where your interests lay, as to who is the most famous to you... I have met most of the WRC drivers from the 1990's and early 2000's ... Juha Kankunan, Marco Allen, Petter Solburg, Colin Macrea, Carlos Sainz, to name a few...they are all world famous, and known to people who follow world rallying. Jon Bon Jovi, Kenny Rogers, spent a few hours on a new years eve talking with Ronnie Woods, and was totally unaware of who he was... Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond (and yes, he is only about 3 feet tall) James May, Sir Richard Branson, Sir David Attenborough, Dame Daphne Sheldrick, Jane Goodall, Saba Douglas Hamilton, John Ngugi, Kipchoge Keino, Jason Dunford ...
I know Lupita Nyongo (12 Years a slave) and Zain Verjee from CNN, Chris Froome (Tour de France)
Maybe the person that the most people would know is Angelina Jolie. The opening scene of Tomb Raider 2 and a few other scenes were filmed on the farm that I call home.
Gosh, I hope this doesn't make me sound terribly conceited!

so many to choose from... Motorsport is definitely at the top.. The East African Safari Classic and the The Dakar at the top of the list... Absolutely amazing, The machines are incredible, the terrain unreal and the whole event gives me such a buzz.
I also really like the Olympics. So many people at the top of their game, extraordinary talent and skill. I particularly like the swimming probably because my ambition had been to swim in the Olympics. Unfortunately, I didn't quite make it.

Always appreciate it. I have learned a lot from the insightful feedback and comments that I have received.
The only complaint I could have is that I do not get enough constructive criticism.
I sometimes think friends hold back concerned about my feelings. They seem to forget that friends to not hold back the truth.

Would you rather received helpful criticism in the comment of your writing or in a PM.

I don't really mind getting it in a comment, particularly when it explains a score, n the other hand, a pm makes it easier to respond and start a dialog.

How do you prefer giving your critique on a story?
If life seems jolly rotten

from Monty Python's "Life of Brian"
I make most of my comment(s) public at the end of a piece. Sometimes I also supplement that with a PM for greater dialogue / personal comment.

Do you have something *different* planned for vacation / holiday this year?? Wanna share??
As a quick reply to Roland and Paul: I have expressed my opinion about f/b and comments elsewhere... It probably would be more prudent for me to not reiterate those opinions here

I'm very much a stay-a-home person so nothing unusual planned for me. Boring I know...

How would you most like to be remembered -- as a writer or as a nice person?
neither... I'd like to be remembered as a good Mum.

Do you enjoy gardening, and if so, what plants do you like to grow?
I used to enjoy gardening. I don't really have the inclination to do it any more, but when I did, I used to plant pansies. Of course, my neighbours would come along and stomp on them, but I just kept planting them. I used to love cacti, too. I tried growing a venus fly trap. Didn't really work, though.

What number am I thinking of?
