Hello, talented writers!

Here’s a hopefully fun writing challenge for you. Two winners will be chosen by an outside judge. Each winner will be tipped 625 coins which you can cash out for a $50 Amazon gift card!

The pictures below contain elements of St Patty’s Day, but I want you to write a story reflecting whatever comes to mind when you look at each picture. It can be, but doesn’t need to be around St Patty’s Day, just your take on the picture.

The rules are simple:

1. Write an max 80-word (yes, only up to 80 words 😈) story (or poem) to one or both of the pictures below. Why not post a story for each picture to better your chances.

2. Post your story in this thread (do NOT submit as a story in the editor for mods to approve), labeling as “shamrock” or “rainbow”, so the judge knows which picture you are writing for.

3. Have fun!

4. Comp ends at midnight EST on St Patrick’s Day (March 17th).

So get those imaginations going and submit an entry (or two)!

Message me with questions. I’m going on vacation soon, but will get notified and respond to messages.

Can I combine them and write a story about a lucky gay robot? 🤣

(I jest. But I will probably come up with something.)

Sonja did not have a cat. So why was this one making itself at home in her house?

Calico Cupid - Summer Love contest entry

The metal singer made Brenda an interesting offer, but was her interest in the music ... or him?

🤣 no!

The rainbow 🌈 has many meanings, Mr Ape, gay pride is just one. 😉 It can be hope after a rainy day or reference a pot of gold at the end or a symbol of St Patty’s Day. 😊 And yes, a lucky gay robot, too, could work for either pic!

80 x 2? Yes, both I will do. Thanks for kickstarting the SS competition environment. 🥂

Iconoclastically incorrigible or just a silly dumb ass...

OMG! Finally I can start a story with "It was a dark and stormy night..." 😀

This will be fun, hope I come up with something. Big thanx to WriterGirl for setting this up.

Sounds fun thank you Kimmi😋

Thanks for the invite to join this fun competition, Kimmi! I will try my luck on some Celtic reads then. Haha!

Story is now simmering. It's not specifically St. Patty's (it's the rainbow) but there's a bit of a Celtic witch theme to it and I was listening to a playlist called "Celtic Witchy Vibes" as I wrote and edited it.

It can be on any subject. Doesn’t have to be St Patty’s related. smile

“WHAT’S YOUR NAME?”

“WHAT?”

“WHAT. IS. YOUR. NAME?”

“ULTRAVIOLET.”

“F U, VI.”

“WHAT’S YOUR NAME?”

“INFRARED.”

“F U, FRED.”

“F U, VI.”

“F U!”

“F U!”

“VI, KNOW WHAT I DID LAST NIGHT?”

“YOU BETTER NOT BRING BREAKFAST INTO THIS.”

“KNOW WHAT I DID?”

“YOU’D BETTER NOT.”

“GOT STONED AT THE END OF OUR RAINBOW… AND ATE THE REST OF YOUR LUCKY CHARMS. THEY’RE MAGICALLY DELICIOUS.”

“F U, FRED. F. U!!!”

Moral: Don’t let incorrigible, rage-baiting leprechauns enter writing competitions.

Iconoclastically incorrigible or just a silly dumb ass...

And we have our first entry! worship :worship:

Shamrock

Human ingenuity can grasp, create, and assist in ways once deemed impossible. In contrast, the four-leaf clover embodies the beauty of nature, representing luck, rarity, and the simple joys found in our surroundings.

While the robotic hand showcases our quest for advancement, the four-leaf clover reminds us to cherish the organic wonders that grace our lives, reflecting a delicate balance between progress and nature's charm.

Shamrock

The automaton, on patrol for anomalies, spotted something from a long ways off. In an entire field of clover, there stood out this one item that it's programming was at a loss for, for approximately .000015 seconds, an eternity for one such as itself.

It approached, bent and plucked it for a closer examination by its optical sensors. Curious, a clover with four petals, while so many others had three, this was supposed to bring luck. A Lucky day!

The Rainbow Dancer (Rainbow, of course)

The raging storm outside mirrored the chaos in my soul; the grief of recent loss and pain.

A woman wearing a black dress entered the meadow behind my home. She began to dance in the rain. I went out to her, not entirely sure why. Her dance continued as I approached.

The storm calmed. Clouds broke, releasing a rain of colours. The dancer stopped and smiled, dissolving into the coloured light.

I stared at the rainbow. Joy flooded my heart.

Sonja did not have a cat. So why was this one making itself at home in her house?

“Frikkin Roombas,” howled Owen, lobbing an e-bomb toward the door. He never dreamed he’d use hate-speech, but then the robots went rogue. Burnt the fields first. No more human food. Skies black. Billions dead.

Owen took the kids, hid in an abandoned Walmart. Food, hiding places, guns. Here they’d make their stand.

The door blasted open. In the doorway: a Roomba. Held in its cold hand: a fragile plant. A shamrock. Their shared future. Life.

Hope.

“Come in,” said Owen.

Rainbow

All day and all night the storm raged. Leftovers from a hurricane.

Record rainfall. This can’t be real.

The levies were on the brink.

No clearing in site.

Will the rain ever stop?

Our neighbors and us filled sandbags bracing for the worst.

We are warned to pack and leave.

Should we all leave our beloved homes and communities?

What’s that in the sky? Colors?

Is that what I think it is?

Our rainbow. Our saving rainbow.

Shamrock

Come here. I made you to help me with tasks not to malinger about in the fields.

Show me what you have in your metal hand you good for nothing robot.

A four-leaf clover?  Why on earth?

It’s for luck master. Just close your eyes and you will be in your perfect life.

Closing my eyes then reopening them, my nothing has changed.

You are living your perfect life now master. You didn’t know that till just now?

Shamrock

The myths say that we were created by evil creatures that had to kill lifeforms in order to feed themselves and survive: Totally Barbaric!

The myths also say the creatures made noises and wrote things they called words to express themselves rather than transmitting the contents of their memory circuits: Totally Inadequate for Expressing Oneself!

There was a time, according to the ancient ones, where these creatures walked the earth with us: Completely Unbelievable!

Rainbow

To pass under the rainbow, I knew I had to discard the costume of blood and muscle I had worn for over seventy years. It was surprisingly easy, as the aches and pains accompanying it were also discarded.

Once gone, I became aware of everything in an all-at-onceness. Separating individual interactions was difficult, but one caught my attention. Its raw sensuality drew me in and at the moment of conception, I had donned another costume forgetting all that went before.
