Yeah, the Mamas and the Papas were onto something there. Never know how the opening of the week is going to go.
What I do know is that it is opening with some dark roast Costa Rican coffee along with Scottish Breakfast and Russian Caravan teas. Iced tea and lemonade are mixed up for those needing something cold. There's a nice stock of assorted sodas, too. Kettle is ready for other hot drinks, too. And there's goodies.

Scott, I have a hard time recognizing which day it is. They are all the same to me except Mondays. Sunday is always my busiest day with church and family events. Monday is my day of recovery.

I expect that I will get there once I am retired (2 years probably). For now, as a working stiff, Monday is the day the week begins for me. Sometimes it is a quiet start to things, sometimes all heck breaks loose. 😕

That's kind of my remaining hesitation with retiring. While I feel 37 years in the workforce is quite enough, part of me is still not sure I can fill the 40ish hours a week my job current takes. And I don't have a lot of social contacts outside work right now, though I have ideas on remedying that.

Here in Albemarle, NC, on Wednesday afternoon, we had a huge thunderstorm with gusts reaching almost 130 kph. A huge tree branch in my backyard broke off and landed on my neighbor's raised deck and a small gazebo. This branch is thicker than a phone pole and probably weighs nearly two tons. I feel so distraught about the damage to my neighbor's property. I have already got my insurance company started on making everything right. This is the first time, and hopefully the last time, I have dealt with a big insurance claim. If the company tries to penny-pinch on my neighbors' claim, I am ready to step in and put a stop to it.

Yikes. We had a nasty storm blow through late yesterday afternoon but no damage noted or heard about. My phone was going nuts with tornado warnings just before, though. Heavy winds and a ton of hail. Had a pile of ice pellets on my deck that actually took most of the evening to melt.

It's the season of storms. We are expecting some heavy thunderstorms tonight. I'm glad they are tonight and not tomorrow (my son flies back to Germany then). It's been a great week having him here. I get sad when he leaves. But he will be back for another wedding in October and his brother's in November. I think I see him more than my other two, who live only a few hours away.
Other than that, things are uneventful here, and everyone is back to good health. I hope everyone stays safe from the storms, and for those of us in the south, stay cool. Take care, cheers!
Hi. Gill! It is always a great time when distant relatives are with us. I am so glad everyone is healthy again. Injury or illness of friends or family is so stressful and taxing.
Bad weather has never bothered me. I spent three years in tornado alley, in Oklahoma. I lived through five major hurricanes, three at sea and two ashore.
I brought a big German chocolate cake my niece made for Father's Day, and sun-made sweet tea.

The last month has been a bit disheartening. I have been so fortunate that my dementia has not been a steady decline. Still, my cognitive abilities will suddenly decrease over a period of weeks and then level out for several months or years. After almost three years, I have gone through another drop and seem to have leveled out again, which is great news. My neurologist thinks this recent steep decline may be attributed to the prolonged stress from my ongoing divorce from hell. Despite all of this bull shit going on, I remain hopeful for the future. Without the support and love from my family, I would be homeless and broken. Both of my sons, my brother and sister, and all four of their families have gone out of their way to help me. God bless them all!
I hope you do not take this as me being depressed, discouraged, or looking for sympathy. This is just letting the friends I have on SS know what has been going on in my life over the last few years while I was absent from this space. Since I have been back, I have recognized how much I had been missing in my life over these last few years.

I worry quite a bit about my memory. I am doing everything I can to keep issues at bay. Not sure how that is going to work, but I try to stay hopeful. My wish is that we all keep our memory losses manageable.
This week is going to be dreadfully hot and humid. The high will be over 100 degrees for several days; in fact, it lists 104 as the high for two of the days. I am forever grateful for air conditioning.

Thanks, Jeff and Gill. I am doing as well as I can. My Parkinson's disease is only at stage II, but my dementia has reached stage III. That does not prevent me from enjoying the pleasures in my life. Carpe Diem! Suck the marrow from the bones of life!

My neurologist visit went well. I have some memory issues due to neuropathy, but the doc thought it wasn't too worrying. Which is good, because I was worrying a LOT! Anyway I didn't want to leave anyone hanging, thus the post.

Thanks Roland! It really was scaring me a little. Good to hear you are still "sucking the marrow from the bones of life!" Really well put! And I enjoy bone marrow, the few times I had it. That cake sounds awesome. My grandma used to make ambrosia.
Nothing new here. Talia is sick of me talking about (and endlessly tinkering with) my telescope. I'm still climbing the learning curve on ths one.

Holiday here in the Great not-so-White North. Canada Day!!! The day for maple syrup and rye whiskey, not necessarily in that order. On this day in 1867, the British North America Act came into force, uniting the provinces of Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. Oddly, Prince Edward Island joined later even though one of the key conferences leading to Confederation was held there.
And that seems to be a real underlying difference between us and the US. The US began in revolution and bloodshed. We began with a political conference and an act of the UK Parliament. Draw what conclusions you will.

Happy 250th birthday to the United States of America!
I am proud of America, the great experiment. I always laugh at the many people who call me unpatriotic because I often disagree with our government, do not fly an American flag, or wear patriotic pins or other paraphernalia. But throughout all of these people who have even called me a traitor, when I asked if they had served the USA in some capacity, only three had served. One in the military, another as a police officer, and the last on a city council.
After I recounted my twenty years of military service, two of them rethought their position and apologized. The police officer doubled down, saying that if I did not support the government 100%, I was a traitor.
Part of being a responsible American is to disagree and even protest against bad policies and decisions of our great country.
Everyone, have a happy, safe, and prosperous 4th of July.
BTW, I heard somewhere that Canada was going to join the USA as our 51st state. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
