This might be encouraging for some here...short stories are actually selling, at least according to this New York Times article...

I think the only catch is that you have to be a famous author...just sayin'

The BBC Script Room is accepting scripts for submission from February 14 to March 28 at 5pm GMT...accepting scripts for TV, radio, etc...both adult and children's stuff...not sure about payment, if interested check this link and figure it out...

Here is a video on using Google Docs that some may find of interest...it is an easy way to keep your work safe, and beats the heck out of flash drives...which are easily lost, and have been known to malfunction...Google Docs is also a great way to share, as this video explains...

My contest winning story The Birthday Party has now officially won two contests...and is in print for the fourth time btw...

I was added to a Facebook group for Just Fiction Edition! authors some time back, even though at the time I was not really a JFE author...Daren Despot, aka DSpot here on Stories Space, organized a contest in the group, and JFE put up a 50 Euro gift certificate as a prize...the idea was the members of the group would vote on certain criteria using a scorecard created by Daren...

The contest started just before Hurricane Sandy hit my area, and I tried to bow out gracefully, as I had not had a chance to read all the entries...tough to do without electricity...anyway, despite my best efforts, I was declared the winner, and my story is part of this collection...now available on Amazon...

A popular topic these days..."The Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security is pleased to announce its Annual Essay Competition"..."The competition is open to everyone with an interest in homeland defense and security. The essay should be no more than five pages, single spaced, in twelve point type. Deadline February 15, 2013. The winner will receive a $500 cash award. Additionally, the winning and four top finalist essays will be considered for publication by Homeland Security Affairs, the online journal published by the Naval Postgraduate School's Center for the Homeland Defense and Security."...interesting contests my writer friends...you could not only win a few bucks, but possibly influence national security...check it out...

Just letting you know, they're a very conservative crew of seniors over there...and don't be disappointed if they reject your submission...I sent them my 9/11 poem, which is my most famous work, for an anthology of patriotic stories and poems...and they rejected it...they didn't think it was worth five bucks...so...good luck...
