Hey Lola...if you asked me nice, I would have pinched you...

In the meantime, one of my FB friends posted something that really did make me laugh out loud...

Quote by Dreamcatcher
I put a couple of mine in for evaluation.. all it said was.. "seriously?"

Hey Larry...ever have this happen? I think they're trying to tell me something, but I'm not sure I'm smart enough to figure out what...

Quote by ladysharon
I found this in an article on Facebook which gives some insight on the reading levels of Americans. I decided to try this formula on a few of my stories and found that my readability of my stories are between eighth grade adn twelfth grade.

Readability Formula

I think I had seen this before...if I remember correctly, it said my stories must have been written by a four-year-old with a dull crayon...did a bit better with the poems if I recall...
I have no idea what you're complaining about there Yas...you know, writers had it a lot harder in the old days...

I think if I was asking for a complete critique of anything that I published on here I would want a PM, whereas just general comments are fine.

The thing about posting the critique publicly is that everyone can read the story and critique, and hopefully come away with something...

And I heard that Larry...and yeah Scooter...there is a $20 entry fee...

You can just send the funds to my PayPal account, I'll send you the address, and I'll make sure you get a good seat...
This sounds like something my friends can handle...and they accept reprints, but pay a bit less..."Theme: Stories that instill a feeling of dread or foreboding. Something evil is contained, but someone releases it by accident. Feel free to explore different avenues. Is evil contained in an abandoned factory? How about a shoebox at the top of Grandma's closet, or the new kid on the block? How does it get released,
and what happens thereafter.

Authors submit only one story per anthology. Stories must be from 500 to 4,500 words. Unpublished works paid $25, reprints $15.Accepting four dark poems, minimum 15 lines. Pays $10."...anyway, got all that? Go for it my friends...

I see that I may need to attach a note the next time I submit something...just to make sure there is no misunderstanding...

2. Recommend a max word count for pieces of, say, 2,500 words.

What do people think?

I don't agree that there should be any maximum word count...I do agree about posting the word count at the beginning, great idea actually...

And really liking the reciprocal thingy...hope it works...

to Silver, bcc: me
Dear Writer, you are receiving this email because you requested to be notified when Silver Boomer Books has a call for submissions. If you wish to be deleted from that list, please let us know.
Some of you are already aware of our latest anthology project and have sent material to be considered for Times to Remember, a pocketful of holidays. Please review our guidelines for submissions by scrolling down to "How We Want It" at http://silverboomerbooks.com/sbb/wp/for-writers/ (And please note that the widowhood anthology is now closed to submissions.)
When the phrase "the holidays" is mentioned most of us quickly think of the end of the year and the period of Thanksgiving through Christmas. That time of year has produced many wonderful stories and poems from many talented pens. If you have a piece for that season, you may send it but we are hoping to include events from throughout the year in this project. Your chances of being selected will be higher with a well written essay or poem about Flag Day, or Arbor Day or the Watermelon Festival, etc. Surprise us.
Here's a definite oldie, from 1942 here...a song made most famous by Etta James in more recent years...here Ray Eberle, and Lynn Bari perform it as a duet...with the Glenn Miller Orchestra...

These were the 7 sins that annoy me most, but I've opened the topic up to any more suggestions. Feel free to add more to it, Martini.

Nah, you did a fine job there...I just felt the need to point out that there is nothing really "deadly" in anything here...

But yeah, there are a lot of things that can be annoying...I'm just happy when people use spell-check before submitting a story here...
Back in November I posted about a poetry contest over on everyone's favorite blue site...the theme being world peace, or something like that...

Really liking this poetry contest...the theme is "World Peace"...smile

Anyway, they announced the Top 30 in one of their radio shows on Blog Talk Radio, and the list included myself, fellow Stories Space Cadet Christena Antonia Valaire Williams and Facebook friend and fellow New Jersey person Jamie Bond...

World Healing, World Peace Poetry Contest 2012 by Inner Child Radio
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/inner-child-radio/2011/10/10/world-healing-world-peace-poetry-contest-2012

They did a video collage of all the poets who submitted poems...

Anyway, they put out a book in two volumes of all the poems in the contest...you can get both volumes directly form IC Press for only $20...a mere bag of shells I might add...

The book also includes another Stories Spacian, Diane Margaret Jardel, aka Courage2bfree...and probably more people on my FB friends list than I can count...so, it's a bit of a family affair for me...

Btw, if you think you noticed this is the second print anthology on IC Press that I'm in that came out this past weekend, you may be right...

My poem I Had A Dream, is now posted on this site...here is a list of the other poets...

Yippie!!! !!! YAY!!!...

Long overdue, if you ask me...

Now if you can just upgrade the bar in the moderator lounge we should be good for a while...
Yeah..."Fore score and seven deadly sins ago"...or something like that, eh Scooter?

Btw, just want to point out that I think Yas did a fine job of pointing out things that can be annoying in people's writing, but there is certainly nothing "deadly" in anything here...

The original article posted referred to publishing and a writer's career...

7 Deadly Sins, According to Writer's Digest
http://www.storiesspace.com/forum/yaf_postst276_7-Deadly-Sins-According-to-Writer39s-Digest.aspx

I don't think anyone has ever had a story rejected by a publisher because of punctuation errors, and it's important that people realize the difference...there is something in the publishing industry called an Editor who does stuff like throw in the commas...

One of these days I'll say more on the subject...just sayin'

Don't write in the nude if there's a cat about who likes to jump, without warning, into your lap.

Ah yeah...that one rates right up there with my cooking tip about not frying anything in the nude...

Sorry I can't help you with that spelling problem there Scooter...btw, did you realize you just listed four ways to spell fore? Or, is it 4 ways to spell four?

Hmmm...never mind...
OK, the April issue of eFiction Magazine is out I'm told...oh wait, here it is...

eFiction Magazine [Kindle Edition]
http://www.amazon.com/eFiction-Magazine/dp/B004UD88K2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333312327&sr=8-1

It's the internet culture issue and contains my poem "Hearts Beat As One" which I wrote back in 2009 when I first became aware of, um, "long distance romances" on the net...this also marks the first time I'm actually getting paid for a poem btw...

Btw, it was inspired by the Bo Diddley song "Dearest Darling" particularly these lines; "I once had a heart so tender and true, But now it's gone from me to you, Take care of it like I have done, For you have two hearts and I have none."

Hearts Beat As One...

When people ask me how we met,
I never tell them on the net,
'Cause people just don't understand,
What happens in this cyber land,
But it's love for me and you,
A love that is oh so true,
Although I long to hold you tight,
Hold you near with all my might,
I pray for you upon a star,
Even though you are so far,
And though I long for your touch,
I dream about you very much,
In another time and place,
I could probably see your face,
And we could sit and share the wine,
But you have yours and I have mine,
And though you cannot be so near,
I hold your image very dear,
And so I give you all my heart,
Even though we are apart,
And though you have two and I have none,
Our hearts are together and beat as one.

Beach day for me!

Say what? It's freezing here today in Jersey...and I have to go outside to get on the net for the time being, though is not going to last...

Just sent in what I think is the third edit of "Sexual Healing" to Alfie Dog...1909 words, down from the original 2027...hopefully this "editorial assistant" person will be happy...jeez, the things I'll do to get something published...

I think it may be time for a drink...
