Love the look of the site, but it doesn't look like it's open to anyone outside of the US, or am I reading it wrong?

You can use my address Yas...of course, if you win, the $5k will have to be sent to me...
The Poetry Super Highway is, well, a poetry site with events, chat rooms, contests, and poetry...but, of course...

Poetry Super Highway
http://poetrysuperhighway.com/PoetLinks.html
The home of the Poetry Super Highway, a major Internet resource and online magazine publishing new poets every week as well as links to hundreds of other poetry related websites, also a chat room with weekly scheduled events, online poetry classifieds, poetry contests, and an online bookstore where

Looks like the contest has an entry fee of $1 per poem...just thought I'd mention that...
Call For Submissions

Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica 11
Editor: Maxim Jakubowski
Publisher: Running Press in USA, Robinson in UK
Deadline: October 15th, 2011
Payment: £75 per story, which at current exchange rate is approx $121. Rights are non exclusive world English language anthology rights

This is the longest-running best short stories of the year anthology. As we've moved the annual publication date of the volume to make place for a Best of the Best volume (appearing early 2012) I am exceptionally seeking submissions of stories previously published, whether in print or online, during calendar year 2010 AND first half of 2011. Any length up to 8,000 words, although am NOT into 'quickies' (ie under 2000 words or so) unless they are truly exceptional.

As to what I like, my tastes are idiosyncratic, but best refer to any of the previous 15 volumes of the The Mammoth Erotica series < http://www.facebook.com/l/hAQAX_7PzAQDRnJbJy_bhJGe6qsmum99qpgu-26ht48IzNw/tinyurl.com/44qhubt> (there were five unnumbered volumes before we switched to numbering them). I'm broadminded, but tend to prefer strong characterisation and some modicum of plot as opposed to merely mood pieces.

Submit by mail as tear sheets, manuscripts or photocopies (NOT e-mail, please as I cannot face the prospect of reading over a thousand or so submissions on a computer screen). If I accept your story, I will then require it as Word document at a later date only.

ESC! Magazine apparently buys fiction and poems..."I am looking for quality fiction, poetry and artwork - from new and experienced authors - that has not been published before or you still own the rights to."...so, you can submit anything right? Trying to figure out how much they pay...

ESC! Magazine - Contributor Guidelines
http://www.escmagazine.com/guidelines.php

NOTE: I had thought maybe this magazine doesn't exist anymore, but it looks like they just publish one issue every year or so...they've been around for over ten years as well, in print and online...

So...go for it...
I know there might be a few people here who qualify...if you're a teen, 13-19 you're good...they have a print publication, contests, etc...

It appears they don't actually pay for submitted stories...but they do have paying contests...

And the 'bing' noise they made when they got to the end and had to be reset to the right.

Yeah, they should figure out a way to put the "bing" noise in Word...

I happen to have it in storage at the moment, along with a lot of my things, but that's another story...anyway, it used to be quite a conversation piece...I used to have it in my bedroom during the 90's...and any time I had a girl over, they always seemed to have to try it out and type their name on it...

Not sure that was always a good idea, though I just had to remember to replace the paper every now and then...convenient though, if I forgot a girl's name in the morning, I just had to go over to the typewriter and look at what she typed the night before...
Oh, here we go again...a big congratulations to Yasmin, aka Sherzhad for her very well-deserved Editor Pick on her latest poem Silent Screams...

It seems like every time I turn around lately, someone on my friends list is either getting published in a magazine, selling a story, or winning an award...

Maggie Rascal got an Editor Pick recently...
Lady Sharon sold a story to Every Night Erotica, which just posted yesterday I believe...
Cowgirl Brumby also sold a story to ENE, in addition to getting a publishing deal...
Clarabelle sold two stories to Every Night Erotica recently...
Sprite won first prize in a story contest...
Xuani also won money in that contest...
Don Abdul got a story published in this month's issue of Bare Back Magazine...

I finally figured it out...being on my friends list is clearly good luck...

I'm getting tired of all the celebration parties though...getting too old for all this partying...take it easy on me people, stop being so good...

Congrats again to everyone...don't think I missed anyone, though I might have...hard to keep up lately...

Cheers,
Alan.

A big congratulations to Lady Sharon on the recent sale of her story Surprise Party to Every Night Erotica...

Way to go Sharon...I'm sure this will just be one of many more...

You deserve a drink girl...

Cheers,
Alan.

You are very welcome, alan. I thought you used a typewriter from the late 1890s. Did they even have typewriters then?

It funny you mentioned that...my grandparents actually met over a typewriter...my grandfather worked with my grandmother's brother who mentioned to my grandfather one day that his sister had a typewriter...my grandfather went over the house to see it, and that's how he met my grandmother...
He had never seen a typewriter before...not sure exactly what year they met, but they got married in 1926...

I have the typewriter actually, but no, don't write stories on it...looks like this picture, it's a Royal 10 with the beveled glass sides...and yeah, they had typewriters in the late 1800's...

Have an Irish poem? "The poetry awards will be given to the entries best reflecting Irish or Irish-American poetry traditions. While the poems do not necessarily need to have direct Irish or Irish-American themes, the winning entries should have a cultural/literary relation to either Ireland or Irish-America"...anyway, you could win $100...

And here's three more...Sci-fi stuff...

It is only a short hop (perhaps through a worm hole or time-warp?)
from experimental and speculative fiction to Sci-fi, which would
explain why this is also such a prominent genre among readers of
flash fiction. Again, all those listed below are paying markets.

Three paying markets for flash fiction...

Though virtually every conceivable genre and sub-genre is served by
various publications, flash lends itself especially well to
contemporary experimental and speculative fiction, and this is
reflected by the sheer quantity (and quality) of titles currently
available. All those listed below are paying markets.

I've heard Louise has a lovely little garden.

Yeah, as long as that damn Squall don't come in and blow it away...
Grain Literary Magazine pays $50 a page, max $225 for written-type fiction stuff...and they buy poetry too...what else can I say? Go for it...

Grain Literary Magazine - The Journal of Eclectic Writing
http://www.grainmagazine.ca/submissions.html

No previously published material, btw...almost goes without saying...nobody is going to pay a decent amount for anything already read thousands of times already if you haven't figured it out yet...
Salt Publishing is an "Indie publisher of poetry & children’s poetry, literary fiction & short stories, romance & erotica, sci-fi, crime & writers' guides, plus free online magazines."...fair enough, they started following me on Twitter, that's how I just found out about them...good luck following me, btw...

Salt Publishing - International Award-Winning Poetry and Short Story Publishers
http://www.saltpublishing.com/

Seems like they offer a little something for everyone...from kid's poetry to erotica, something you don't see every day in a publisher...might be worth giving them a shout if you're looking to get something published...

j/k. just kidding.

Thanks for clearing that up Sharon...I'm not real up on the text and net lingo these days...I'm a bit "old-school"...it's actually a wonder I can use a computer at all...

Let me go read about how Yas taught her keys to walk home from the carnival...
OK, trying to figure out what this site is...and how to enter the contests...here is what it says...

"Linking Authors & Readers Like Never Before
Helping you grow as an author & build a following of readers!

Every day, exciting, poignant and possibly world-changing works of literature and non-fiction are written. Unfortunately, most are never seen by the public... until now. AuthorStand allows any author to make ebooks available directly to readers, then lets all of us decide, as a community of readers, which are quality works. List your works and help pioneer the new way to launch a writing career!"

OK...here's what it says about the contests...

"Here's how the writing contest works...

There is no fee to enter the contests, you simply need to sign up for a Free AuthorStand account, then list the work you'd like to enter on AuthorStand.com. AuthorStand writing contests are judged, in part, by AuthorStand member readers, so during the time that the writing contest is being judged the work must be listed on AuthorStand.com with a price of $0.00. Once the judging is over you may change the sale price to whatever amount you wish."

So...from what I gather, once you submit a story, it gets set up as an e-book...I think that's the way I understand it...
On another note...Sara, aka RomanceGoddess here on Stories Space, sent me a note earlier today...apparently someone was so impressed by my poem *Accept Me As I Am* that they decided to steal it, change the title to "A Poem For You" and call it their own...

I should be flattered, eh? Lol...somebody noticed it, the poem is on her Romantic Ideas Online site as well...

Hi Alan,
Someone posted this on my site:

I never meant to take you for granted,Because you're the best I found,I truly cherish every moment,O

I think this is the same person that was stealing poems and stories and posting them on another story site I can't really mention...the name sounds familiar...

Not much you can really do about it though...btw, the poem was removed...so the link just goes right to the front page of the site...
Here you go...want to get your poems read more?

Sew them into people's clothes...
