"I became a writer because McDonald's was paying me too much to sling hamburgers."

-just read that in a blog...no comment, actually...
Here you go my South African friends..."South African online newspaper. Although they do not have a budget for freelance contributions, exceptions can be made for excellent writing. Pays around R1/word."...so, go write something excellent...

I believe this topic was mentioned in another thread somewhere, but I don't know if it was resolved...

A lot of people seem to be looking for ways to convert to .PDF format these days...whether it is creating their own e-book with the intention of self-publishing...or, whatever...

Anyway...one of my Facebook friends just posted two sites...
http://www.pdfonline.com/

And the second...

I'm told both of them actually work...which is always nice to know...
And just think folks...this was written years before the days of story sites and chat rooms...

You been smokin' that good stuff again, eh Scooter?

On another note...I've seen a couple of sites that do "custom poetry" for any occasion...here is one, as an example...
http://www.occasionalpoems.com/choices.html

I'm curious as to how much business they actually do...basically, you give them $100 and they write a poem for you...

I mean...I could do that...

I just got the thought in my head of starting my own site...maybe even on Blogger or something...

Hmmm...have to give this one some thought...
OK, my Stories Space friends...if you have not read my first contest entry here...The Birthday Party...that touching, classic short story about an aging woman who throws a birthday party for her husband...you can always read it in this months issue of eFiction Magazine, out now...

Here is the link...enjoy...

For those interested in self-publishing, check out CreateSpace...saw it mentioned in C Hope Clark's newsletter, so how bad can they be? "With CreateSpace you can easily access tools, quality printing, booksellers, eBook distribution, and marketing strategies so that you can generate more opportunities than you imagined – all while building your following of readers."

I think even if you don't go with them, they seem to offer a lot of info and tools on the site...not necessarily a big fan of self-publishing myself, but a lot of authors are choosing that option...
The Who doing a number from what is undoubtedly one of the great classic albums of all time...Quadrophenia...
Do you have a story, poem or artwork that is so decadent you think no sane, decent publication would possibly accept it? You're probably right, so try the Criminal Class Review..."This journal is for the emotionally impaired, hard-hearted, vengeful-minded." according to their site...it is a print journal, which is cool...they don't pay anything at the moment, which is decidedly less than cool... but if this is your type of stuff...check it out...it may be your chance to get something "in print"...which is cool...

Anyone ever hear of Inkubate? A site that claims to link writers with publishers and agents...looks like they have a bunch of stuff on the site...go check it out, and good luck my friends...

Inkubate links writers with publishers and agents

Just a quick note...all the legitimately published authors I've talked to...and I've managed to talk to a few in the last several months...all said they met their agents in person...and all seem to recommend that you do as well...

Yeah hey Dirty,
I have a little something I want you to write for me

Not a note from your "mother" to get out of gym, is it? You're not in school anymore...you should be able to write your own notes...
Mirror Publishing is..." We are a small publishing company which began in 2006 and have had wonderful
success due largely to our great authors and the great works they have blessed us with."...

Don't know if this is of interest to anyone, but..."We publish children’s book, early readers, young adult fiction, novella, and full length novels. So if you've written the next great kid’s book, mystery, thriller, sci-fi, drama, or love story, etc., please feel free to submit your work using the “Submissions” link."...now, go finish that book...

Apparently the Stony Thursday Book is calling for poetry submissions again...their Facebook page is only a year out of date, but I'm guessing the same rules apply...this has something to do with the Limerick City International Poetry festival...and they don't have to be limericks, thank God...

Very interesting topic Louise...I notice a lot of recurring themes among some writers here...I don't know that I've written enough stories yet to answer regarding those, but my poems frequently deal with lost love, heartbreak and trust issues...
As I write more stories, I can see some of those themes coming into play...especially the trust issues...
