Can't we just gossip and eat CAKE?

Can a man come and join your girly chat... but only for the cake?

Akatsuki (English translation)
Going over thousands nights,
some love shall survive.
So, until my body perishes,
until my life disappears,
I shall keep on cherishing this love.

Shining in the depths of the eyes,
the moon is about to cry.
Red tears overflow
and dye the night sky.

In the silence,
the two damaged blades stand face to face.
Our loneliness and our uneasiness
slash even our hearts.

Going over thousands nights,
some love shall survive.
So, until my body perishes,
until my life disappears,
I shall keep on cherishing this love.

In the passage of time,
I keep my eyes shut.
Even if the red thread flowing in my hand breaks,
I still feel we are tied.

In the silence,
I hold the damaged blade face to face.
My loneliness and my uneasiness,
I slash, even my heart,
now.

Going over thousands nights,
some love shall survive.
So, until my body perishes,
until my life disappears someday…

Going over thousands nights,
some love shall survive.
So, until my body perishes,
until my life disappears,
I shall keep on cherishing this love.

Dye crimson! Dye bloody crimson!

Ah, I'd forgotten 2014's Christmas drabble...

I was thinking more of unlinked words such as 'Bucket, eggplant, crosswords, sliced bread and Wellington boots.' Composing a story containing all of those elements would be an interesting exercise, perhaps?

Sounds like elementary school all over again.

Cough cough

A teenage girl ran with a slice of bread in her mouth because she was already late for school. With every step she made, her Wellington boots stepped into a puddle of water slowly ruining it.... Yea thats all I got lol

I thought I was the worst punster here on SS. Looks like I've got a rival

I get that all the time. I have two major unfinished series that I've been trying to finish for years now. I have no idea how to fix it, but I would suggest you take a break from it and work on something short and fun, then get back to it again. Let me know if it works, I seriously need to finish mine as well.

Ah!

Therein lies the problem.

I have been so distracted by all the other silliness and stuff I've been publishing recently that it's proving hard to re-motivate myself to really work on what I ought to be working on...

Like you, I have other long stories -one of them at least a year old - that remain unfinished.

I have to wonder if it's a concentration issue or something else, perhaps?
I am deep into my series story 'Going Away', which I have been working on for several months now. At well over 50k words, it has become my biggest-ever writing exercise. And that has become the problem.

I am enjoying the story and have a whole swathe of ideas to incorporate into the coming chapters. My issue is that I have spent SO long on this one project that it's becoming something of a chore than a pleasure.

I have called this feeling 'story fatigue' as that is how I feel about the project (NOT the story, though)

My question is: does anybody else who tends towards the longer story/serial ever feel the same way about their work? If so, how do you energise yourself to continue with it?
Another 'old' topic that deserves reviving....

Personally, I can write a short story (around 2000 words) in two to three hours. With re-reading and editing maybe another hour.

Most of you know that I love micro-fiction, yet even those little buggers can take longer to write than you might imagine! usually, though, an hour is about average.

My longer stories (those over 2500 words) can take anywhere between several weeks and several months to complete, depending on how much time I have to devote to them and how interested I am in the story I am writing.
Bumping this back to the first page as it is REALLY very helpful!
I spent so much time on my own as a kid that reading became my favourite pastime. However, when I was asked to write something for an English composition exercise as a kid - and got praised for - I was hooked.

Nowadays I write as much for personal pleasure as for recognition. I realised long ago that I was never going to enter the public consciousness as an author of note so I settled comfortably into the role of talented amateur. I can live with that
I am in the process of writing a period piece (my 'Going Away' series) set from the early years of the twentieth century through to the latter years. It would be foolhardy of me to have characters named Kylie and such for the earlier years when names like Maggie, Doris, Mabel, Charles, Harold and Albert were more common. If you are writing a story that is set in a particular period of history then names have to be 'period appropriate', surely?
