An ape saunters in.

Sorry I've been scarce. Writing, housework, and other such stuff going on. Tea and cookies will go down well. A Mason jar and a hibiscus flower for the latter, Earl Grey for the former.
Finally clean the car interior (we tend to wait until planting season is over or it just gets messed up again). Going away for three days this week to see the not so little one. But I should be around tomorrow and Tuesday.
I have the final part of The Chronicles of Tana the Healer in draft but it still needs work. Mostly polishing and revising, though. I am quite happy with the story and how I am sending my friend Tana on her way. Though I am contemplating more stories in that setting, I will probably leave her in peace now that I've resolved this story. I would like to do something with the Denith Lorn, the priesthood I mention a few times in the Chronicles, but not sure what. As a bit of a theology and religious studies nerd, it kind of bugs me that I haven't done much with the religion and mythology of that world beyond the dark side.
Time to put out a fresh pot of java and some fresh tea. Tetley's Orange Pekoe and a Black Current black tea in the pots. Iced tea is refreshed and pop stock checked, as is the ice cream (though it isn't too terribly summer-y here after our two day blast of heat at the beginning of the week).
Have a good one!
Later, alligators!
So a member on Wondercafe2 by the delightful (heh heh) handle of Delightful Life posted this. It is a curated list of writing contests and competitions happening this year with information on theme, prize money, entry fees (where applicable), etc. Figured us literary types might benefit from having this handy so I'll post it here.

Oh, and they've indexed it by genre, too, with a list of genres on the left side that you can click to drill down to a specific one.
I was born more than a decade after the coronation so Elizabeth II is the only monarch I have known. Fantastic that she has made it to this occasion.
That said, I have a sense that the monarchy in Canada might not last long once she goes. In my generation (what we call Gen X here), there's probably more loyalty to her personally than to the institution and the Andrew scandal has definitely done damage. In the generations after me (Gen Y, Millennials, Gen Z), I get a general sense of apathy. They know little about the monarchy beyond what makes the news and don't have any particular loyalty, even to Elizabeth II. Part of that is immigration from countries that are republics already (e.g. lots of immigrants from India and Pakistan in my part of Canada, both of which opted to ditch the monarchy after independence) and part is just not being engaged in the system period.
Good morning/afternoon/evening, whatever it is where you are and when you arrive! It's still a bit steamy here but rain has arrived and is supposed to cool things down.
Coffee is a Costa Rican dark roast, teas are Assam and Earl Grey. Fresh Iced tea is in the fridge and pop supply is good.
Got to boot to a meeting. At least they sprang for lunch (gave us Skip the Dishes credits to order with).
Later, alligators.
More kid lit, this time it's book publishers, though. Any plans to find an illustrator and do some Scamp picture books? 😊

Even as she tours with Nightwish for the first time since 2018, Floor Jansen has put out a second solo single. The video was shot in Helsinki when she was there doing a warm-up gig before the tour. Due to her Nightwish and other commitments, Floor's debut original solo album (she has a solo live album out but it is all covers or material from her various bands) isn't due for another year but the anticipation is already building in her fan community.
Been working on the deck today (30+ C and sunny). The jays have been coming and going constantly. The nest is in a tree right by the deck so I see them constantly right now. They are quite aggressive in chasing off other birds but haven't bothered me so far, which is quite nice. We had a redwing blackbird near the deck once and the male drove me to distraction many times with his shrieking and divebombing.
