Mets threw a no-hitter this weekend, albeit of the kind that takes 5 pitchers. It was fun to watch. Talia was napping on the couch and I told her, Wake up! You're about to experience Mets history! Her eyes appeared to be open as the final pitch as thrown, but I can't be sure.

I was still following the Jays when Stieb threw his no-hitter (1990). He had a few other games that came close, too, including a perfect game that was only broken up after two outs in the ninth. To this day, it's the Jays' only no-hitter. Big accomplishment for both the team and the pitcher(s).

Fortunately, Rumpelstiltskin was able to spin the straw into lovely gold dragon leashes.

Baking, flower arranging, German genealogy, writing. What can't this woman do? Stupendous Sara should be her title.😊

Good morning. Coffee is ready, hot tea is English Breakfast and Earl Grey, fresh pitcher of iced is in the fridge.

Welcome to May! So why am I getting April showers?

Bram Stoker's short story (originally meant as a chapter for Dracula) "Dracula's Guest" takes place on Walpurgis Night.

I am taking LaVey's advice and celebrating my birthday as a Satanic holiday (well, I'm taking the day off work) next week.

Have fun with your potting and hope the Liverpool game goes/went well (no idea when is the game)

Good morning (well, it's morning here right now). Coffee is ready, teas are Scottish Breakfast and Sunday Tea (orange pekoe with Bourbon vanilla). Fresh pitcher of iced tea is in the fridge and I have added a pitcher of real lemonade as well given that red, me, and likely others are going to be out in our greenhouses or yards.

You know things are bad when Saturday comes and things are still bad

You know things are bad when it is Friday and you're still doing work from Monday.

Oh wow surprised

Classics sounds like a fun major

My major wasn't nearly as fun .. double major in pre law and sports medicine

Odd double major there. So you can treat their injuries and then help them sue the person who hurt them? 🤣

Yeah, Classics was fun. I am kind of back at it listening to a podcast called The Ancients. It's officially ancient history in general (e.g. there's episodes on China and India from time to time) but the host is a fellow classicist so it leans heavily to Rome and Greece.

Good morning, everybody! Getting some lovely weather here as May approaches.

Coffee is brewed, there's Red Rose and Earl Grey for the tea crowd, plus a fresh pitcher of iced in the fridge. Everything seems well-stocked right now.

French Latin

French is mandatory in Ontario up to grade 10 (the joys of living in a bilingual country). I took it all the way to grade 13 (yes, Ontario had 5 years of high school back then). I took Latin from Grade 11-13 and that led me to majoring in Classics, heavily focussed on Latin and Roman History, for my BA.

Talia is home, the cats are happy

Doesn't that qualify as therapy right there? 😋

ALSO has anyone notice comments being removed from their profiles? It looks like all comments are gone from mine that were new from when I returned?? No biggie just curious

My latest is 6 months old but I don't get many so probably that's accurate. There were problems with comments not all coming over when they converted from the old platform but that should be resolved. I think. You can always open a ticket if you want it looked into.

Sorry to hear how about all the cancer issues. Thoughts and good vibes coming your way. Sound like things are turning a corner anyway. And thanks for the cookies. nom nom nom

A Dutch singer who lives in Sweden and fronts a Finnish band is now singing in German. Floor Jansen: multinational, multilingual vocal powerhouse.

And on the home front in the Netherlands, she's been doing some radio and TV performances to promote her recent solo single.

And she's also now on the road with Nightwish, her regular gig.

You know things are bad when you're happy to hear of someone who doesn't know who Elon Musk is (I'm sick of the guy)

Fortunately, the ape had long been good at the "hide" part of "hide and seek"

Had to take a foreign language in high school( many moons ago )to graduate and German was the only one that appealed to me from all the choices given. And I just kept up with it over the years .. now I have apps on my tablet that helps with my practice.

My high school had German but it was a upper year course geared to kids who had gone to the local German school (a weekend program for German immigrants to teach their kids the language). Oddly, the German teacher, who was a German immigrant with a strong accent, also taught English and I had him for Grade 12. Great teacher, even if hearing Shakespeare (Macbeth that year) in his accent was a bit weird.

Aaaaaaand good morning! With all this talk about German, I feel like we should be serving some beer and sausages (Oktoberfest flashback) but we'll stick to coffee, tea (Red Rose and Scottish Breakfast), and Sara's cookies.

So cool that you can help with this. Wow! And you know some German. That's amazing. How did you learn? The towns around where I am were settled mostly by German's and when I went to their museum, all the ledgers from the shop owners, etc. were in German.

I am from Waterloo Region, formerly Waterloo County, in Canada where one of the first big waves of European settlement were German-speaking Mennonites from Pennsylvania (the dialect they spoke is known as Pennsylvania Dutch, an English mangling of Pennsylvania Deutsch). That, in turn, led to it becoming a popular landing for other German-speaking immigrants. My neighbours as a kid were Germans who left Europe after WWII. Never learned much of the language myself, but probably could have if I had made the effort.

Snow is mostly gone now but it was cold today. -1 with wind chill making it feel like -7 when I got home from the office. More like February than April.

Putting on a pot of vanilla rooibos for evening tea. Rooibos, Afrikaans for "red bush", is a caffeine-free tea-like plant from Southern Africa. Will have a butterscotch marshmallow and a pecan divine to go with it.
