Scottish and Irish Breakfast are my favorite breakfast teas. My local shop has a nice house blend, too, called Tea Haus Breakfast. English Breakfast is okay but I find a lot of blends too mild tasting for my palette.

Lovely weather here, too. Got some stuff down outside, rode my bike, generally had a good one.

Coffee is on. Tea is Scottish Breakfast and Sunday Tea (black tea with vanilla). Fresh pitcher of iced is in the fridge. Soft drink stock is good, nothing needed there.

Sorry I missed dumping the old cookies, Sara. Don't go in there much so kind of forgot those cans.

Bank - Bunk (to take a nap after wrestling with your bank)

Sank - Tank (another thing the Russians are having issues with)

Saturday is cleaning day.

Wipes down the counters and tables, washes the mugs and pots, gives the floor a pass with a mop.

There, looking good for another week.

Coffee is on, with some nice Jamaican Blue Mountain beans.

Hot teas du jour are Earl Grey and Keemun.

Iced is a fine orange pekoe. Lemon and sugar are on the coffee bar if you need 'em.

I see Sarah stocked up the cookies. I've put a little something in the freezer given that warm weather seems to be here and getting warmer (supposed to be 28C here by end of next week).

You know things are bad when the only person who knows a broken system well enough to fix it is on vacation when it breaks.

I only take unplanned naps if I'm sick or jet-lagged. Could probably use one, though. Woke up too f-ing early this morning and then dozed off again. Dreamt there was this big robot bug in my house and when I tried to smash it with a hammer, it regenerated itself. 😨 Didn't even watch any giant bug horror movies recently, though I did watch a few back in the day.

Then I get to work and discover a system is broken and the guy who developed it is on vac. Finally bit the bullet and pulled him in and the team got it sorted.

Coffee is on for those still wanting/needing some. I'm using the nice friendly coffee-maker, not the cranky old percolator. Tea is Red Rose and Assam. Iced tea is mixed and chilling in the fridge.

Later, alligators.

Nice pile of calls for submissions for themed magazine issues and anthologies. Some are weirdly specific (houses that are no longer there), others are quite broad. Genres are all over the place. There's at least one in support of Ukraine. Many are due end of this month so get cracking, literary types.

Oo, while reading a list of new calls for submissions (going up in the appropriate forum shortly) I noted that this month is the 125th anniversary of the release of the novel that is probably my all-time favorite and most read: Dracula by Bram Stoker. If I can ever get out of my writing doldrums long enough, I must take a shot at a vampire story. I haven't written one in years.

It's my birthday, too! I'm encountering lots of May 4th babies this year.

And on that note, I'm filling both hot tea pots with Earl Grey variants. First has regular Earl Grey, second has Duke of Earl, which adds vanilla to the usual mix of Ceyonese black tea and bergamot. Coffee is on, too. Never heard of Earl Grey coffee, though, so we'll just stick to some nice Costa Rican medium roast. Iced Earl Grey and orange pekoe are in the fridge. A bit blah here but supposed to improve as the day wears on. have a nice one!!

Earl Grey tea was specially blended by a Chinese mandarin for Charles, 2nd Earl Grey  to suit the water from the spring at Howick by using bergamot in particular to offset the taste of the lime in it. Lady Grey used it to entertain in London as a political hostess and it proved so popular that she was asked if it could be sold to others, which is how Twinings came to market it and it is now sold worldwide.  Sadly the Greys, being unbusinesslike, failed to register the trade mark and as a result they have never received a penny in royalties!

Yeah, I read that history somewhere recently. Twinings is one of my favorite bagged Earls, though Bigelow's is the one that got me hooked. The food services at the university I attended for undergrad (the aforementioned Classics degree) served Bigelow's and I started drinking it at lunch, between classes, and even in class at times (with some of my profs, the caffeine was sorely needed). Right now, my local tea shop has a nice loose leaf Earl Grey called Earl Grey Supreme so I tend to go for that when I buy it.
