Three! Three New Year's Do Overs!! Ha ha ha!

FYI, doing the list by editing the previous post has a problem in that it does not cause the thread to show as having new posts or move to the top of the New Posts page. It may be better to do something like this using quoteing and build this list as it goes along or just do a post per story.

Well, fittingly for the theme of competition, my entry is getting a do-over. Yep, I wasn't happy with the first story I wrote so I am pursuing another idea. It is going well, though I've kind of stalled on the final bit. Thought I knew how to end it but apparently not.

My day is emotional. Meeting with Hospice at 2:30 while they evaluate Mom. She stopped eating this week. I'm flooded with memories of her and a feeling of aloneness as another person seems about ready to leave my life. I know its all part of the journey...

Vibes, Writergirl. Been there with Dad at end so I know the feeling.

My wife just died from cancer. Home Hospice was the best,

Sorry to hear. My condolences to you and others affected. Glad to hear that she had good end of life care.

Woo hoo! It's the weekend!

Boo hoo! I'm stuck fixing a broken exterior door knob!

And it's f-ing cold here.

So all the more reason to get the coffee and tea going. Coffee is Jamaican Blue Mountain, which many coffee geeks swear is the best. For tea we have Earl Grey and English Breakfast. And the hot water is filled for those seeking other teas, hot chocolate, instant decaf, or whatever else warms you up.

Have a good one!

HOLLY FRIKKIN HUNTER! Love her. Serious crush.

Is she in it? I was into her back in the day. Haven't seen her in anything in quite a while now.

He’s still in Miami but goes to Detroit.

Well that's a definite step down. The last time I went to Detroit, it was to catch a flight to Miami.🀣

Hallmark has its place in every comp! (Says the hopeless romantic of the group)

Oh, I have that hopeless romantic thing going on, too. Healer's Secret nearly ended up with Oben and Tana hooking up (yes, even though he is married). And I am still wrestling with whether to introduce a romance for her in the sequel, which is part of why one has not happened yet.

Tom Hardy as 007? Okay 😍

I’m not a fan of Bond, but I could be ;)

He was the favorite to succeed Craig at one point. I am hearing that may not be the case anymore, though.

sweaty butt fart

Sounds like a Douglas Adams character. πŸ˜€(Slartibartfast, to be precise)

Well, here we go. Second guessing my comp entry even though the current draft is looking pretty good writing-wise. Do I have time to write another one? No idea. Should I bother trying the new idea I have? Maybe. I think the new idea might go in an interesting direction and be an overall better story. The one I have in hand is a bit ... Hallmark, if you get what I mean? Lacks edge. No shadow side.

Takes a green tea and a Pluto cookie (because if anything has a shadow side, it's the furthest planet from the sun, eh).

the WEBB telescope, rockets, space stations, planets (all them including Pluto), stars and moons

PLUTO IS NOT A PLANET!!! Pluto is a cartoon dog.

Pluto is an ancient Latin god if you really get down to it. And he's probably pissed that his name keeps being given to planets and dogs.

The round gold thing at the top is the part that would make an excellent cookie.

Also known as a "mirror". πŸ˜€ I think I saw a picture somewhere of someone who made cookies in the hex shape of the individual panels and them formed them into the mirror on the plate.

Good afternoon. Putting on a belated pot of coffee and a teapot of Red Rose. Got some mild signs that one of my headaches is looming. Neck and shoulder stiff and achy is the sign. Trying to stave it off with stretches and heat for now.

Jeff what does a JWST cookie look like ?

Google "James Webb Space Telescope".

Sorry to hear about the COVID. Get the vaccines.

I know a family of five, all fully vaxxed except the youngest (who have their first shot but aren't far enough past it to get a second) and Omicron just went through the household like wildfire. No one seriously ill, likely thanks to the vaccine and them generally being a healthy bunch, but they all got it. So get vaxxed for sure (I have had my booster) but stock up on tissues and Tylenol all the same.

Good evening. How's everyone? After a bitterly cold Tuesday, we made it all the way to 0C today. IOW, January being January.

I'll put on coffee and a pot of green tea for evening drinking.

Verbs, I am so not looking forward to the day we sell this place. I anticipate major work and expense. Probably a few more years yet since I am not retired but it is really way too big for a couple.

Discovered that a history podcast called Fall of Civilizations has a Youtube version. Ancient history is a thing with me (my undergrad major was Classics, with a strong focus on Roman history and culture) so I have been sampling it. Working on The Han Dynasty (the period of Chinese history that happened roughly in parallel to the Roman Empire in the West) right now. Also watched episodes on Assyria and the Bronze Age collapse, when multiple societies ended or fell on hard times all within a fairly short span of time as the Bronze Age gave way to the Iron Age. Episodes range from an hour to three hours depending on how much ground is being covered.

I'm thankful the James Webb Space Telescope unfurled without a hitch.

Amen. This is probably one of the most exciting space missions in quite a while. If this thing actually works as planned, the data it generates is going to lead some incredible scientific work. The sunshield and mirror opening were two of the big milestones and they happened as planned. Now they need to get it into position.

When was the last time we had space cookies? Rockets, space stations, stars, planets.

Sorry to hear the big, bad bug has hit close to home, Larry. I have one of my team at work sick with it right now, but no one in my family at present (my brother's family, including his eldest son's in-laws, all had it back in the original outbreak in 2020). And the Ukraine situation is making me a bit nervous, too. Feels all too much like a re-run of some of the tenser parts of the Cold War.

Anyhow, just coming by for an afternoon tea and some ... oo, snickerdoodles.πŸ˜‹

Okay, since Molly kindly got the Groups feature turned on, maybe we'll take a swing at this. I am thinking of calling it The Story Circle and making it public. Can probably come up with a logo and cover image with a bit of work. I'm getting pretty adept at Paint 3D in Windows 10 and finding PD art and photos to use (unless someone here is artistically inclined).

Current Nightwish lead Floor Jansen from her recent solo concerts in Amsterdam. This song is one she wrote when she was in the band ReVamp. Her duet partner is Dutch opera and musical singer Henk Poort.

Oo, shiny. I have never used the Groups feature on (redacted) but I shall try it out here for sure. Thanks, Molly.

Coffee; the fuel of the North American (and probably other regions as well) economic engine. And I have a pot of it right here.

Tea; the elegant, tasteful stimulant of a more refined class.😜 I have two pots of it here, Red Rose and English Breakfast.

Good morning, Inspirations! How's it goin'? Our squalls largely did not materialize, just a cm or two of the white stuff fell.

Okay, I read through my draft and didn't hit Delete, so I guess it's a keeper. Needs work, though.

I wish the second Newhart show was streaming somewhere.

See, for me that's the Newhart show. I did see the odd episode of his first series but Newhart's run came in my big TV sitcom watching period and I loved it.

Go on, be bold.

Given that it is supposed to be my comp entry, i don't have much choice. πŸ˜‹

Quiet day here but fun is looming this evening. 10-20cm of snow in local areas tonight due to squalls. Might have to shovel in the morning, in other words. That would only be the second time this winter.

Usual hot beverages are available. Coffee is hot, black, and strong. Tea is Earl Grey and Scottish Breakfast. There's hot chocolate and marshmallows on standby for Sara and others who prefer that option.

Ever had a first draft of a story done and been afraid to go back and look at it again? Like, maybe you actually wrote something that seriously sucks?

Given those temps, nice HOT coffee is brewed, HOT tea is in the pots (Earl Grey and Peach today), HOT water is in the kettle for hot chocolate or other steamy beverages

From one of my posts in Inspirations. Clipboard works on my Samsung Galaxy. (Android 11 w. Chrome). I know from work with Xenforo that iPhones sometimes have issues where droids do not, and vice versa.

Ape prances in and does a delicate pirouette

(Oh, who am I kidding? There's now f-ing way a gorilla is going to do a "delicate pirouette").

Hm. Interesting cookies. Travel theme? I'll take a plane ticket and a passport and see where I end up. Maybe later this year I'll actually be able to use my passport again.

Crap, I might have something. It's a bit convoluted and needs work but I have a complete first draft of it. Oh, and I am pretty sure that it's missing two of the words so have to look into making sure they get in there.

they seem to really like the general direction of the Damned Thing

That's likely what matters at this stage of the game, eh. If you're going in the right direction, then honing the details gets easier.
