Yeah, Nova is a perennial classic of science journalism.
Been watching a few episodes of Closer to Truth. Runs on PBS apparently (though I don't recall ever seeing it on the PBS station we got before cutting the cord) but I am watching onnthe show's own YouTube. Basically it's quest for meaning stuff so lots of philosophy, theology, and cosmology. Forays into fringe science like panpsychism (the idea that all matter is "conscious" to some degree from quarks up to galaxies), but mostly pretty solid stuff. Very academic in approach, though. Mostly dialogues between the host and various academic experts.
Quote by gypsyThanks, Gypsy. Just wanted to make sure it was the site being flaky and not me losing it.Yes, I see your image.
Last week I found that I had to go through the uploading procedure TWICE for the same image to stick and appear in my media. The first time, "it" claimed the image had been uploaded but nope, it wasn't there. Second try, it worked.
And not just for one image either, for a few. Go figger, eh. π€·π»ββοΈ
Quote by MendallaUm, what happened to the picture that I uploaded to this post when I made it? It is neither here nor in My Media. And the last couple images I have uploaded to My Media (screenshots related to a problem here) have never appeared either. Shouldn't be an approval issue, should it? In fact, the screenshots were going to Private since I was just going to send them using PMs. I will raise a ticket but is anyone else having problems with uploaded media right now?I see there is now an upload tab when you click the camera to add media to a forum post so thanks for that. Have not tested it yet (well, until this post)
Frankly, unless she's playing Irish tin flute or something, our sideways-facing flutes look less like that than something like a clarinet. Says the clarinetist. π Still, good to take advantage of the teachable moment, eh.
Good morning. Grey, damp day here so far. Coffee is brewing and I've filled a pot of Earl Grey Supreme (Earl Grey with twice the bergamot). Hope you have a good one!
By night. Looks prettier and you can't see the ugliness.
Quote by AnnaMayZingActually, for evil, I just said "evil vampire" which could be any gender. However, my second option probably should have been sexy lover vampire or something rather than "loverboy" but I had Edward Cullen in my head at the time. Why not an evil lady vampire?
Long walk or ride a bike?
Rather than burying our announcements of our Spooky Tales competition entries in the comp announcement thread, let's have a thread for it. Post a link and tell us a bit about your "Spooky Tale"
My entry is The Empty Office. As a desk jockey myself, the idea of dealing with strange, spooky goings on in an office has long been an idea floating in my head. There's still this idea about going to the washroom and finding myself in another place together that I need to get to. However, this one went in another direction entirely. As Molly has already commented, there's a Twilight Zone vibe to it which was not necessarily conscious, but I was very happy when I realized it was there as I wrote and edited the piece.
David's sells online through Amazon, I think. My local shop has an online store but not sure what shipping to the USA is like. For Canada I think it is free over $50 or something like that but have never looked at international. Since I live in the same city, I get free local shipping on orders over $20 or I can drive downtown to pick my order up.
And that means, it is tea and coffee time. Tea du jour is Scottish Breakfast. Coffee pot has been washed and fresh joe is brewing as we speak.
My comp entry is in the queue. Watch for it.
Okay, so I just did my first real submission (the one I did right after the upgrade was really just me testing the feature). And this one went really well. Saving the submission, adding the tags, editing, all seemed to work well. Will still do my drafts and editing in Google Docs for now, but the current state of the story submission form and editor seems pretty good. So, another like there.
Quote by MollyWhile you're at it, I think there's a comp submission in the queue. Not sure how I know that. πQuote by MendallaI'm adding it now.Quote by MollyMolly, the two items above aren't on the competition page. I had to come here to confirm the word count.
All categories are open except for the following ones: Micro Fiction, Plays, Poetry, and Songs.
The maximum word count is 5000.
Quote by DenimAngelIt's pretty much the only thing that I buy at David's Tea (Canadian chain with some US presence) now. Everything else they sell has a cheaper counterpart at my local tea shop. Plus the local place has a lot more selection, so some cool blends and flavours that David's doesn't have. That tea sounds yummy .
Making a pot of Buddha's Blend (white tea, green tea, jasmine, hibiscus) for anyone wanting an afternoon tea. And I will have an acorn and a leaf.
Would you believe I wrote 1500 words of a sequel to my fantasy story that I am not even sure is finished per above? It picks up from a bit in the original that I thought was a throwaway but when I was cycling this afternoon, I started spinning a new story around that throwaway.
If this one comes off, that'll be three in about a month. And three substantial ones. For last year's Cheers to 10 Years comps I did four in a short time but two were fairly short poems. So this could be a new record for me as a writer
Quote by VerityCool. I have not watched much of his seasons, something I should remedy. Kind of missed him due to scheduling on PBS and some chaos in my life when they first ran here. I kind of stopped mid-Davison and then watched some of McCoy.Tom Baker was my favourite. Having said that, I did once have a drink with Colin Baker. He was very nice. A friend of the family knows him.
1984. Need to have a chat with high school graduate me about future plans. There's some better options than what I took.
For a less personal destination. Jerusalem during Passover somewhere around 30CE (some think it was 30, some 33, based on other events). Want to see what really happened with a certain Jewish reformer/preacher allegedly crucified around that time.
