Forum

No famous stories for me yet. Takes a while around here, I guess, given the low traffic.

We has a new cookie lady! Now Sara has backup. 😋

Add me to the tall kids club. I was taller than my parents, my son is taller (quite a bit taller) than me. I'm about 6' (5'11.75" or something like that officially) and he's c. 6'3".

Tea and a peanut butter cookie seems a fine combo for a Friday afternoon.

Coffee please. I'll limit myself to a single cookie.

If she's still sick tomorrow, we are going to start rationing. Break them into pieces and limit each visitor to one fragment a day.

Or maybe I'll hit a bakery for some. The bakery near our family cottage used to make chocolate chip cookies to die for. Got sold in the mid-eighties, though, and the quality kind of tanked after that.

one concern i have, though, is that i am told i have no forum posts. i know i had a conversation with scott in the coffee lounge.

Hi, Grace. Weird. Not sure how far back the My Posts goes or how complete it is. I have only used it to look for recent stuff.

Glad to hear that Sara is feeling better.

Nice weather continues here. If anything, it is getting too cool. Downright Fallish this morning, in fact.

Going into a long weekend (Labour Day) here but no real plans. Supposed to turn showery by Sunday anyhow.

Coffee is on and kettle is boiling. Breakfast bar is restocked and I thawed some more of the backup cookies to hold us over until Sara's back in action.

This forum looks almost exactly like the one at the old mobile site that was closed down last November!

Same code base but significant improvements have been made over the couple weeks since it went live here. Still needs work (and your report will likely join others in the queue), but I am fairly happy with where things are at, and I hated the site you mention. The "Submit and Watch" and "Submit" was actually the result of member feedback, including from me so they are listening and working to improve things based on our feedback. Nice to see you here.

Glad to hear your stitches are out, G-man, and you're recovering. Too bad puppy is having tummy troubles. Poop happens, as they say. 😀

I am happy with the new format, even if it is a bit basic compared to more forum sites I use. Works and that what matters. Need to get going on some stories so I can play more with that part of it but, hey, blocks never last forever. I hope.

The little one is in preschool and recently turned four and it seems like she was just born yesterday.

These kids just grow up too dang fast, Sharon. Mine is about to accept his first permanent job offer (to start after he gets his degree next April). See also Ping's remarks about his kids. Nice to hear from you.

Hello friends! Finally able to take a moment to check out the new format. I struggle with change, but I imagine I will get used to it eventually. A cup of tea would be lovely before I head out to get my allergy shots.

Sounds from news I heard that you better start getting used to it. 😉 The forums are nice and simple, which is not altogether a bad or good thing. I know the social features are still a bit of a work in progress, but I'm not a big fan of that stuff anyhow. Give me working forums and story publishing and I'm good.

Winnipeg-based singer-songwriter Faouzia has been putting out original songs since she was 17 or so. She is now 21 and her first full album draws near. She often follows up a new release with a "stripped" (ie. acoustic) version. In the case of "Hero", her latest, she went with an orchestral version as a follow-up.

Fantastic news! You're living the dream. Oo, and fantasy, too.  My genre.

Hey, Sara, hope you're getting better. Take care of yourself.

Nice day here. Weather has finally cooled off so we can use windows instead of AC. Not quite Fall-ish, yet, but definitely finally feeling like the latter end of Summer.

Quiet in here in the mornings these days but I'll get coffee and kettle going for the latecomers (and those in other time zones).

Wonder if the old series labels didn't get brought over properly so aren't recognized as series on the new site. One of the admins or developers will have to answer that one. I don't actually have any series on SS (yet) so have not tried out that feature.

As some here already know, I have become a huge fan of symphonic metal of late and one of the premier bands in that genre is Nightwish. Ghost Love Score came out in 2004 on their album Once and quickly became one of their most popular concert pieces, appearing on, it seems, every setlist on every tour since. It's a ten minute epic, almost classical in scope and style at times, but still rocks when it needs to. This performance features original lead singer Tarja Turunen, who sang it on the album.

So we are into the third decade of the 21st century and there's already a crapload of music that has come out. Some is from artists who started out in the 20th, some is from millennial and Gen Z artists who are just starting out. So what has caught your ear musically in terms of this century?

One 21st century band that has really had me rocking is Walk Off the Earth. They come from Burlington, Ontario, Canada, not far from where I used to live, and have a lively mix of pop, rock, folk, and even ska and reggae in their sound. They've weathered some tough times, losing two members (one died, one quit) in 2019, but have managed to keep things going with three original members and some well-chosen session players.

2015's "Rule The World" was the leadoff single from the band's fourth album and remains one of my favorite Walk Off the Earth tunes to this day.

Hold it, did the bear just confess to murdering Earl Grey? Does this mean we now have a murder mystery going on in here?

The problem with using Niven as an example is that a lot of his later stuff really was drivel, even if he also put out some pretty fine s-f in the seventies and eighties. I have a gut feeling that he might be a tough read for 21st century me, even though I was a fan in the eighties.

But, yeah, that's kind of what I've been doing. The problem for me is that technique usually generates these wonderful openings that have nowhere to go and any attempt to finish them seems to end up with me figuratively ripping the paper from the typewriter and tossing it across the room.

I honestly don't know the current acting scene well enough. I have heard Henry Cavill mentioned and what little I have seen of him suggests he could do it, but he also commitments to Netflix's The Witcher series and apparently still to DC (for Superman). And as a white, English male, he would be a rather conventional choice

I need to see more of Idris Elba but I think he would depend on what kind of Bond they are shooting for. He would make a good older Bond in the thick of his career or maybe the twilight but would be a stretch for a "first kill" 007.

For a woman, I have heard Gillian Anderson mentioned. Wonderful actress (I was sold on her right from the first season of X-Files) but, again, would depend on the kind of Bond they are after.

And then there is Lashana Lynch who plays the agent who has taken over the 007 designation in No Time to Die. Obviously, I have not seen that yet, but she was good as Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel. Odds are, she gets offed in No Time to Die (non-Bond 00s have a poor track record in the staying alive department) but who knows? We will see this Fall.

I'm not writing well, and I don't know why. Keep at it I guess.

Me, too. Have two stories sitting there with like half a dozen to a dozen paragraphs but just don't know where to go with them. Great beginnings both, but then my imagination stalls on trying to go further.

Kettle is on for tea.

So we have a riddle on the floor from da bear. I have no idea of the answer but I'll probably kick myself when I hear it.

Still warm and muggy here though it has improved over the last couple days. Supposed to cool off gradually over the next couple days.

Back at work this week. Fun, wow. Been kind of missing it, but as usual there's a metric f-ton of stuff waiting.

Anyhow, the coffee is brewing and kettle is boiling for tea.

FYI, my browser (Chrome on Android) just prompted me to enable notifications so I think we have push notifications now.

There’s a problem with poems when they’re listed on the front page eg.

“I wish I could tell you The things I hide inside Lay out my broken parts  For your eyes to see. I wish I…”

I’m technologically challenged so I don’t know what the &nbsp is, but it shouldn’t be there. The poem looks fine when you click on it.

I think this might be fixed. Could not find any examples this morning.

Hey there. Welcome to Stories Space. Looking forward to hearing more about your class and reading your stories.😀

Tell us more about the writer's conference! It sounds fun!
Sounds more fun than the business and tech conferences at least. It's the kind of thing I would like to do when I have more time.

Gav debugging code

Thanks for all the hard work over the years, Gav. Your work is much appreciated.

Yeah, you have to upload them in your gallery or have them on an image site (if you use External) first. Bit of a nuisance that I hope gets fixed eventually.

Aww, you didn't need to delete, you weren't the only one. Perhaps we should have a Ten-word story thread like the five-word sentence one? 😀
Write a ten-word story using the last word of the story above? Ouch, that really could be a challenge. Perhaps writing a ten-word story using A word from the story above would be better. Then again, it is supposed to be a challenge ... 😀

And I'll leave mine up. I completely forgot this was an old anniversary-related challenge when people started posting in it again.

I am hot (in the temperature sense, not the good-looking sense)

Amen, Maggie. Nice to see the pace with which the obvious, and even some of the small, issues have been dealt with.

Good to hear, verbal. I know people actually had high hopes for this one given Jordan Peele's backing. Maybe when it hits streaming.

Good day (morning is almost over where I am)! Coffee is made, kettle is a-boilin'. My vacay is officially ending but I am actually kind of itching to get back to work. I have some work I want to do on fixing up my last project.
