Depends on the weather which I use, but I prefer windows down unless I'm on a freeway (gets too windy at 100 km/h).

And my friends and I thought an alien invasion movie starring Robert Vaughn and Christopher Lee might be at least entertaining.
Yeah, right. Even Lee, who has probably saved more bad movies than Sean Connery, as the alien captain couldn't save this turkey. Definitely a "chequebook" role for the two leads. And probably a tax break for the producers since this was made in Canada during the years when tax incentives turned Canada into B-movie heaven (to be fair, that environment also got David Cronenberg's career started so it wasn't all bad).

Good morning, all. It's rather dark and wet here in Ontario today but in Inspirations, the sun always shines, even if it is just etairay's cheery posts giving off light.

Hey, Rump. Nice to see you pop by. Yeah, the news down there has not been great so I hear where you're coming from. Kind of into a slow news season here outside of COVID stuff but there's a chance of an election this fall (hopefully not) so maybe things will pick up (but hopefully not).
Kind of flailing around on writing right now. Lots of ideas dancing in my head but nothing I can seem to latch on to for long enough to get something written.
I think I shall grab a couple cookies to go with my morning tea.

Just back from my first visit to Costco in a while. It was busy but in a sane, sensible way. Masks all round and social distancing mostly being observed.

I think a balance is possible. The problem with constantly pursuing dark and edgy is amply illustrated by Miller's descent into madness in his attempts at a sequel to Dark Knight Returns. Eventually it becomes dark and edgy for the sake of being dark and edgy. And, frankly, it's been done to death at this point. Batman as a noir detective, balancing his status as a vigilante with his desire to bring some kind of order to the means streets would be more interesting than yet another angsty retelling of his origin story. And that is largely what TAS did.

I was a fan of the darker, edgier Bat-stories for a time. Loved The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller, for instance. However, I kind of think that has run its course and maybe getting back to a detective Batman or Batman as a crusader against crime and corruption without the angst and grim vengeance-seeking is due. Still, Matt Reeves did some great stuff with the Planet of the Apes trilogy so I am certainly not writing this one off.

I have been hooked since I came across the Adam West TV series (1966-68 with a movie spinoff in 1966 that was basically a feature-length episode) as a child. And basically never looked back.
Favorite media Batman?
Batman: The Animated Series (1992-1995 with a feature film spinoff, Mask of the Phantasm, in 1993), which introduced Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman and Bruce Wayne, a role he still plays at times today in animated series and computer games. It hit a nice medium, not quite as dark and obsessive as some of the recent movies, but also without the silliness of the West series (though it did have humour, avoiding the grim seriousness of the Nolan-Bale trilogy). It's a mature Batman who has largely overcome his lust for vengeance to focus on fighting crime and corruption. There is one brilliant episode where Batman tries to convince a mobster to turn state's witness after discovering that the man's son is addicted to the very drugs the mobster has been smuggling into Gotham City. It is largely a character piece, with the action limited to Batman making sure the mobster lives long enough to actually turn. Very much not what you would expect from an animated superhero series, but the writers of Batman:TAS were a clever bunch.
There's a new Batman movie looming but the trailer makes me think it will be going the grim route again. Too bad. A lighter Batman, more akin to the animated series, would be more welcome to this bat-fan.

Doing housework with a limp isn't fun, but it is done, including cleaning up the washroom my son uses before he gets home for a visit this week (it has basically been unused since his last visit in March-April). Bit hot here but the humidity isn't as bad as in our heat waves earlier in the summer so is tolerable.

I had a hell of a wedding anniversary yesterday. I'm limping and she's got an arm in a sling. And, yes, the story is entirely Storiesspace friendly. She wiped out on her bike the other night and I slipped and fell helping her get changed before we went to emerg. We didn't have any big plans anyhow (thanks, COVID) but did order in from our favorite Viet-Thai place.

By my count, we have 14 entries for our contest. The very first entry was from Adrienne. Her story has had only one comment and, presumably, one vote. I am not a moderator so I can't judge if her story is fulfilling the requirements. I just know that her story seems to be the only one that may not have enough votes. Perhaps some of us could check it out and decide to vote for her or not.

Lovely day here. Had a local tree company in to remove one of my original trees, a spartan juniper we put down 19 years ago. It was leaning too close to the house next door so we decide it had to go before it took out his eaves or something. Started out about my height, IIRC, and was taller than the house at the end. Cost several times more to take it down than to buy it.
Afternoon lime water is happening along with ... oo, oatmeal raising, I think.

We decided around noon that Victor had gotten over whatever he was having going on in his tummy. He was mopey and hanging about with me continuously. Finally just after noon he got frisky again wanting his walk. I cancelled the appointment at the vet. He seems perfectly fine presently. He had dinner and his evening walk.

Sorry, just goofing off a bit. I'm in a bit of snit today. Someone took a shot at me after I took a hard slap at a spammer on the forum where I admin. They thought the guy could be legit and that I should have given the benefit of the doubt. I checked the guys network addresses. Two different parts of the world within a minute of each other. That's not a good sign and shows that my instincts were correct. Have resisted taking a parting shot beyond an "I was right" post.
Anyhow, I've made a pot of David's Buddha Blend for anyone who wants to try it. Jasmine green tea, white tea, and hibiscus. About the only David's blend I still buy since my local store doesn't have anything comparable.

Starting on a new story today. It's been dancing around in my head of late so I thought I would get some out to see how it plays. It's set in the same world as Night of the Wind but a different part (different continent) and will have, I hope, a different feel to it. Less fantasy Western, more pulp weird fantasy.
