Ontario is up to 300ish confirmed cases but not many in my area. Toronto and environs are taking the brunt of it. Ottawa is getting bad, too.

I'm working from home now as are a lot of people in my office (it's optional for us right now). First day and so far, so good.

I don't really have any medical needs until May when I am due for quarterly bloods to check my A1C (a marker of how well I am controlling my diabetes). My annual is due then, too, but that can always wait.

We have friends in the medical profession. They anticipate they will become infected, due to the their profession and commitment to their work.

Hearing that from them is chilling.

That was certainly the experience here during SARS. Lots of health care professionals caught that one. I work in home health and we are equipping our teams as best we can but there's only so much you can do.

Shopping isn't too bad around here. A few things are in short supply but stores are operating and the last couple shopping trips have been pretty smooth save for a couple things we couldn't get like hand santizer.

Afternoon teatime sounds like a good idea, though it's getting into evening here now.

Take care, all.
Just wandered in for tea and cookies.

Life goes on. COVID is making for busy days at work, but it could be worse. May be working from home eventually, but we don't seem to have hit that point yet.

I have been doing some writing but not for here as of yet. That may come. My winter drought seems to be ending at any rate.

Take care.
* puts on kettle and measures out some looseleaf tea *

At least we can gather here and not have to worry about passing on anything nasty.

Hope all are well. Looks like it is going to be a rough spring for sports fans as various leagues suspend activities due to Covid-19. Mercifully, other than keeping an eye on our local Junior A hockey team, I am not one of those. At least Netflix and others of its ilk are available and seem to be rolling out plenty of new content. Best way to survive self-quarantine/isolation, I would suggest.
Glad to hear you're better, Sara.

Damn, 3 years already since DirtyMartini passed away. Time flies.
Take care, Sara. Strep is nasty. My son used to get a lot of strep throat when he was younger. Hasn't had it in quite a few years now.

what is really frightening is the guy in the White House directing the US response.

Politicians really need to defer to scientists and physicians on something like this but I can't see your guy deferring to anyone but himself.

Lovely day here. I'm headed out soon for my first exercise walk of 2020.
28 cases, all confirmed, in Ontario but most are in the Toronto area so well away from me. We had one here but she was the third in the province and has long since been declared recovered and virus-free. All cases in Ontario have been traced to overseas outbreaks. No community transmission yet.

Good morning. Coffee and kettle are on, and there's fresh baked goods for those needing a carb fix.
Hi Sara. Friday is winding down and the weekend looms.

Cool Ape story of the day: Yesterday on my way to work, Ape, Jr. texts me asking me to tell his mother to watch for a delivery (I have no idea why he didn't email her). I was puzzled. There was no special occasion like a birthday or anniversary happening. Finally at dinner time, Forest of Flowers delivers a lovely vase of roses and baby's breath. The card says that he realized while doing housework how much she had done for him and he wanted to thank her. You know, if you'd heard the two of them going at it when he was in high school, you'd never expect something like this. Apparently, we did something right in his upbringing.
Sara is the cookie fairy. There's no other explanation.

Kettle's on, coffee's brewing. Hot beverages are the order of the day. Whatcha having?
Tea and cookies! Yay!

* carefully eats cookie over a napkin so as not to mess up the floor *

Nice weather here right now. Cool still, but sunny and no precip.

I'll be waiting for coffee. I am off later this morning for an MRI of my neck to check the nerves coming out. I want to resolve what is causing the stabbing pain in the clavicle every few weeks or so.

Out of curiousity (and as one somewhat soured on Canada's system), how long did you wait for that? Getting an MRI here is like pulling teeth unless cancer or some other life-threatening condition is involved. And even then, it's not always quick.
Hi, Gill. Sounds like you're having fun with your remodel. Hope it goes well. My tubs are both on the small side. We could have done a big one in the en suite but Mrs. Mendalla didn't think we needed it since neither of us uses tubs much. At this point, I think we are going to hold off on any major reno. Retirement looms for both of us and we are empty nesters now so may just spruce up what we have to make it more marketable in the event we sell. There's a non-zero chance Little M might move further afield once he graduates (he's already about 6-8 hours away) and Mrs. M wants to be close, esp. if he eventually has kids. Being a doting Grandma is on her wishlist.

Anyhow, coffee is brewing, kettle is on, and I picked up some muffins and pastries for the breakfast bar. And, of course, there's always Sara's cookie jars if you just want a snack.
Vibes to those affected by the twisters in Tennessee (though I must say, Tennessee Twisters sounds like some kind of fifties rock'n roll band or something).

Hope it's a quieter night tonight for all.

Putting on a pot of camomile tea for those trying to get settled. And, of course, scarfing some cookies.
Oh, this is really just like a break room at an office. Whoever needs coffee makes it. Ditto boiling the kettle. The only rule is there must, absolutely must, be mini-marshmallows. You don't want to see Sara when she can't them for her hot chocolate. The last time it happened ... yeah, we don't talk about it anymore.

Kettle's on. Anyone else for tea, hot chocolate, instant oatmeal, or anything else requiring water at the boiling point?

Flame Tree Publishing: Lovecraft Mythos Anthology
This is a fiction anthology around Lovecraft’s mythos. Their guidelines say, “…this offering of H.P. Lovecraft’s shared universe will be a thrilling immersion into the world of Old Ones and the Elder Gods, an ancient race of terrifying beings. In Lovecraft’s vision we live in a deep, but fragile, illusion unable to comprehend the ancient beings, such as the Cthulhu who lies dead but dreaming in the submerged city of R’lyeh, waiting to rise then wreak havoc on our realm of existence.
Lovecraft used the mythos to create a background to his fiction, and challenged many writer companions to add their own stories. Clark Ashton Smith, Robert E. Howard, Robert Bloch, Frank Belknap Long, Henry Kuttner were amongst the first but over the years many others such as Ramsey Campbell, Lin Carter and August Derleth added their voices to the many mythic cycles, developing themes and new fictional pathways for the town of Arkham, and the creatures Azathoth and Nyarlathotep.
The Lovecraft Mythos is fertile ground for any writer of supernatural, horror, fantasy and science fiction, so for this edition we are opening our submissions for brand new stories, many published here for the first time, to continue expanding the shared universe.” They also accept reprints.
Deadline: 15 March 2020
Length: 3,000-7,000 words
Pay: $0.08/word; $0.06/word for reprints
Details here.

I don't have the balls to try for this one but a Lovecraftian anthology from Flame Tree should be good. They are Ramsey Campbell's current publisher and he is one of the best writers of Mythos horror out there. Better even than Lovecraft himself in my estimation.

Thanks for the cup . I'll have strong black with no sugar. Been out in the rain most of the morning. Being diabetic I'll not take the cookie but love the smell.

Virtual sugar doesn't count. Unless you have virtual diabetes. (I have type 2 diabetes).

Green tea for me. I am sufficiently caffeinated for now.

We've gone from shoveling snow to splashing in puddles in 48 hours. Gotta love this crazy winter.
To add to the growing collection, one of the most famous lighthouses in Canada. Haven't been there in a long time but my wife taught in Halifax for a couple years in the early nineties (I actually proposed in her apartment there) and we visited Peggy's Cove then.

A warm welcome to Maryruth. Grab a hot beverage and one of Sara's cookies and join the crowd by the fireplace.

Kettle is on. Anyone else for tea or hot chocolate?
Shovelled, shopped, got some of my taxes done. Still missing some slips but the deadline to send them was yesterday so some may still be en route.

I think I shall have a pumpkin cookies with my green tea.

You haven't quite got this one, Scott... Change one letter but do not reposition any of the others. So...

Oh, I get it (see my previous posts upthread). Just got confused about which thread I was in.

A bit chilly for walking here but I know dogs don't seem to see things the same way we do. My old beagle Bowser (RIP) used to go rooting in snowbanks with his snout in weather that was turning my extremities blue.
