Granted but you're locked in a bedroom with a nurse who is your "biggest fan" hoiding an axe
I wish my back would stop hurting
Good morning, y'all. Coffee's brewing, kettle's on. Mini-marshmallows restocked for hot chocolate. I'll leave the cookie jar to Sara, she's the expert, but I picked up an assortment of muffins for those seeking a late breakfast or brunch.
Pets are fed but make sure you fill their water bowls if you see them empty.
I'll just be in the corner with a tea moaning in agony (back trouble).
Story in progress. Thought it is turning into one of those "sounded better in my head than it's coming out on the screen" ones.
Memo to self: If you're writing a purported sequel/continuation of an older story, reread the older story first. Yeah, I reread Night of the Wind this morning AFTER writing 4000 words of the new story and realized I'd messed up on a few details.
Kettle's on and I got a new shipment in from my tea vendor. Anyone else for a tea?
Should have known Elizabeth would be kicking off the dancing. Happy Birthday, Larry!! Hope it's been a blast.
I like the sound of this. Maybe it's time to spread my wings a little. Right now, all my published fiction is on two sites (including this one). Doubt I can have something in time for this window since it closes January 31.
I'm diabetic so I'll just let Larry scarf down that piece of cake. My sugars are a bit f-d up as it is due to vacation.
Wow. I have had to burn off "carry over" before but never that much in that short a time. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing.
Grey day here, but I've seen worse. Snow supposed to be starting any time, so the worse may yet happen.
Mrs. M and I are now back to being empty nesters after having our son with us for a couple weeks (one away on vacation in Panama, one at home). Probably won't see him again until the semester end in April. He is on a work term with a computer chip design firm so doesn't even get Winter Break this year.
Time for an afternoon tea. Orange pekoe with a wedge of lime squeezed in.
* ape saunters in and pours a tea *
Sorry I've been scarce. I was on vac over Christmas touring Panama (nice country to visit but too muggy for me to live there, I think) and have my son home for the first time since last New Year's.
Hope you all had a great holiday season and have a great 2020 ahead.
My New Year's resolution, among others, is to try writing for this site more. Of course, I've said that before. * sigh *
I have been debating my tree this year again. We are away over Christmas so it seems a bit pointless now. It would only be up for maybe 3 weeks of which we would be away for like 10 days. Should have done it at the beginning of the month. I know why my family wants to get away. They need the sun and warmth and Christmas is one of the rare times they are both free (wife is a prof, son is a student, at different universities). Even winter break won't be an option next year because son will be on a work term so no break for him. However, I kind of miss an old-fashioned family Christmas at home. We have not really done that in years. Even when we host extended family, that hosting is about the extent of it. Oh well, I'll survive, I guess. Not like this is the first year we've done this.
Anyhow, writing has been happening, though not for this place. I may rectify that in the New Year, however. We shall see.
Tea time.
I've been terrible for not finishing books the last while. Some of it is life, some of it is mood. basically, the only novel-length works I've finished in 2019 were ones I took on vacation with me.
In terms of long term failures to finish, though, the most egregious is Clive Barker's fantasy epic Imajica. Started reading it on a trip to Shanghai in 1995 while my wife was ill and we were holed up in the Peace Hotel. Still sits unfinished on my shelf today. Not bad or anything, but very long and complex and once I lost focus on it, I couldn't get it back.
Deepest condolences to you and your family, Anna. Peace be with you in this time of grief.
Yummy, gingerbread. Someone brought a pecan pie to work today and that's my dessert crack. Can't resist the stuff, though I did manage to keep myself to one sliver.
And a tea to go with the gingerbread.
I actually kind of liked the Silmarillion, though nowhere as much as LOTR and The Hobbit. If you approach it as a work of mythological history, it work much better than if you go in looking for a novel. It needed more work, but putting it out was far from the worst of Christopher Tolkien's sins. Some of the Lost Tales volumes were much worse.
