Just popping in here to let everyone know that we're working on finding a solution that suits everyone, we've not forgotten about your suggestions, so please be patient.
I'll be as patient as the lions beneath Nelson's Column. I do want to say this however:
Before I first came to stories space, I had written some poetry, but mainly to go with a gift from Saint Nicholas. Reading poetry was something I hated. Because on stories space they were mixed in with the other genres, I kept seeing them and reading snippets of them. Over time, reading snippets turned into actually reading poems, and I actually started to like them. Today I love poetry as much as I love a good book. That would never have happened without that homepage, that showed all stories, regardless of genre.

If I may throw in one last suggestion: would it not be better to change those buttons to Prose and Verse (or Poetry), and put songs ij the second group as well? Poems are stories too, so that name would be incorrect, and songs on the other hand, are usually poems too.

But why change a label that has worked for years and continues to work? It's perfectly functional and accurate, and appeals to all. Some people get scared away when they see the words "prose" and "verse" because it seems much more formal than it actually is. That's not something we want happening here.
I could say exactly the same about the layout of the homepage. Why change it, when it has always worked fine? Still, change is what we're facing. I think the whole point of that change is, to make it possible, to list prose without having to sift through poetry and the other way around. That is fine by me, but do it consistently and use the correct labels. If I am correct, it was you, that claimed poems are stories too. So to claim now, that poems are not stories, is inconsistent to say the least.

I'm not saying that poems are not stories, so don't try to put words in my mouth. I'm simply saying that when people look at stories, they know they're getting stories, when they look at poems, they know they're getting poems. It's concise enough, so why change it? That's all. Also, don't bring another thread into this thread, especially one that has been locked. They're separate subjects, so let it go.

First of all, I'm not dragging in another thread, I'm referring to something you claimed, which imho is relevant here. You claim, that poems are stories too. I totally agree with you on that. In spite of that statement however, you say, that people should expect no poems, when they select stories. I didn't put that in your mouth, you said that yourself.

But that said, let's agree to disagree on this. You prefer Stories/Poems, I prefer Prose/Poetry. You say, why change things, I say, change is what triggered this discussion. Change is, what has already happened and is, what is going to progress. Nothing wrong with that, but why not do it right then, and use the labels that correctly define what they cover. And I re-itterate, that poetry in SS is more than poems alone, songs should be in there too.

The word Stories in the sitename covers the whole range of genres, in which our members write and publish. Let's not change its meaning inside the site.
