A friend of mine posted this on social media, a quote from a writing class: "The moment you as a writer forget that you're an entertainer, you're doomed. If you have some artsy-fartsy kind of "Oh, I'm not an entertainer, I'm an artist," well, that's good, you ARE an artist. But...[hands open, making a gesture as if handing something gently to the viewer]...your art. Is entertainment."

I hate nuts, but i like cracking open walnuts, so let's do that.

Gerbils or hamsters?

Really gonna try to see the new animated Spiderverse movie this week. I LOVED the first one. Edibles will be involved...

I'm on a little overnight trip sitting in a hotel room in Gilbert AZ...

♫ Standin on a corner in Winslow Arizona... ♫ Sorry, wrong town.

We had 6.67 inches of rain in two days. Yikes! Drying out now, though it is supposed to rain AGAIN soon. The tomato plants seem to be digging it.

I'm in the comp! Burning out a little on writing, so I might be easing my foot off the gas for a bit. I'm frustrated with it.

Mets vs. the mighty Yankees game today. Things're not looking pretty.

Anyway, set-up is up! Costco beans for the coffee, Kittie Zoomies and Chihuahua Chill are our blends for tea. Plus all those cookies (chomp!).

I'm in! Slowly working my way through the stories (just two so far). Good comp!

Alien

Found footage: Cloverfield or Blair Witch Project?

Looking forward to the read, WG! Thanks!

Rainy weekend, and rainy week ahead. Good for the garden and this part of the country REALLY needs it, so I'm not complaining.

We booked an Airbnb in Albuquerque (I can't spell that town to save my life) for this October for the solar eclipse! I'm psyched!

No Mets game, so at least they won't lose.

Still haven't pulled the trigger on the comp entry. Perhaps today.

A coffee and a cookie please.

Kaiju!!!

Mine's less than perfect, but I suspect I'll hit submit tomorrow or the next day.

original "Living Dead" trilogy

In general: fast scary zombies or slow stupid zombies?

Morning wave

My twin has a birth occurring on her porch in an empty hanging basket for plants. It's a baby dove (I think). Thought you might like to see...

Cute bird, WG!

Finished the comp entry! I’ll polish over the weekend and probably post it on Monday. It takes place on the moon!

Mets have lost six straight, swept first by James’s Jays, then by Sara’s Braves. I’m probably going to be taking a break from baseball (as Red sighs a heavy sigh of relief).

Warm and sunny day, though some rain is in the forecast.

Coffee and a cookie.

Thanks for the setup, Ape.

Lord, but the Mets do suck. Lost five in a row now. I might skip tonight's game - it's getting depressing. Braves are looking good.

No Talia Thursday. It'll rain this weekend, so I am going to mow the lawn today, after I finish off this story. Fun!

Not much else going on. A coffee and a cookie would be swell.

Dead Ringers was very creepy, and now I would like those hours back, please. Watching Rachel Weisz might be enough compensation.

I'm watching Love or Death on HBO Max. It's a true crime drama about a woman who kills her friend with an axe and the trial afterward. Hulu had a series (Candy) about the same case with Jessica Biel. The HBO version stars Elizabeth Olsen. It's a weird story with a shocking verdict. I'm not sure why true crime is such a popular genre, but I am guilty of watching many. They are weirdly fascinating.

We watched both the Candy Montgomery things. They were pretty good. The Biel one seemed a little more true to life, but I liked them both.

I'm a little scared to watch Dead Ringers. The Cronenberg one was SO disturbing. Brilliant but cold.

At the other end of the spectrum, I just finished season 2 of Ted Lasso, after avoiding it forever. It's hokey sometimes, but it has a good heart. I'm willing to dive into season 3.

Animals, though I'm not anti-people smile

Hardwood floors or carpet

Thanks for the set-up.

Good game last night, but the Mets lost. I am a masochist, so I will watch again tonight. Pain, thy name is baseball.

At least the comp entry is almost done. I'm not sure it's good, or even on-theme, but I have the ending. After throwing away my first 3000 words anyway.

Warm, sunny day today. Same old thing. Write, walk, supper with daughter, game.

I haven't sold a story in forever and it's beginning to mess with me.

At any rate. Coffee and a baseball cookie please.

We need some rain here so I will eat a couple raindrops and see if that works some kind of magic.

It's working here - big afternoon rains here, every day. I can dig it, though it's interfering with my walks,

Sara, not looking forward to the Braves taking on the Mets. It might be a bloodbath.

The comp entry...it's, um, going. Lots of work involved with this one. Not a good sign or a bad sign...sometimes good stories come in a flash, sometimes they take work. I too won't read a thing til I have an entry.

Coffee and a baseball cookie please.

Thanks for the setup. I was getting tired of that brown sawdust from Costco.

Rainy weekend, but we've emerged unscathed. Mets, not so much: swept by the BJs! At least they don't play today.

Hitting the comp entry today. At least it's shorter and makes a little bit more sense this time through. It's a cool day for a walk, and I'll have to dodge rainclouds, but I'll probably get one of those in too.

Coffee and a cookie please!

I've caught your disease, Ape. I threw away the 3000 words I had, kept the characters and the plot, and started fresh. This time I'll (hopefully) have a better idea of where I'm going.

Thank God, I was getting sick of that Costco dreck. Appreciate the setup.

Same ol, same ol. This comp entry won’t behave, and it’s wandering away from the theme. Just gonna keep driving it toward the ending. Talia has had a long work week, so we are gonna kick back and relax tonight, and perhaps all weekend.

Weather is warm and cloudy. I got caught in the rain during my walk yesterday. It was (mostly) fun. It may happen again today. Mets play James's Blue Jays tonight. Identical records.

Coffee and a sun cookie please.

Okay, Costco Select coffee, Kitty Zoomies and Drowsy Doggy teas, a plate of fine cookies (munch, munch).

I filled out my All Star ballot this morning, Sara. Mets won last night, but the Braves are probably the best team in baseball right now.

No Talia Thursday, lunch with daughter, work on the comp entry, walk, watch the game. My life is so predictable.

All for now. Coffee to go please!

We've been singing this for two frikkin days. Passing the earworm to you:

No one has been in for 24 hours!? Must be that nasty Costco blend. Here's a blend I call Monkeyshines, picked by actual monkeys off the coast of Madagascar. Tasty! No monkey poop was involved! I promise!

Plus, the ever popular teas: Kitty Zoomies and Drowsy Doggy. There's an old SNL skit about Puppy Uppers I'm trying to remember, but cannot.

Anyway. Time to write. I think I found the ending to the dog story.

Coffee and a flag cookie please!

First one in! You know what that means!? COSTCO COFFEE!!! Plus the ever popular Kitty Zoomies and Drowsy Doggy teas. And Memorial Day cookies!

Today: finish a story about dogs that turn suddenly intelligent. The opening is good, I've got no ending. Then back to the comp entry I guess. Also walk! Also watch baseball! And the Succession conclusion!

We made more progress on our Friends Lego set! We get to build Monica next!

Seize the week everyone. A coffee and a cookie please!

Red's three-part "I Am Viennese" is, incidentally, wonderful.

Thank you , Verbal

So glad to hear it, Red! It's a great adventure.

My M&M is veering off course a bit, but I will try to figure out a course correction as I garden this weekend.

No big plans. I'll grill salmon/chicken and read and write and walk and watch baseball. Pretty much all I ever do. Not that I'm complaining. I know this sweet spot won't last forever, so I am doing my best to simply enjoy it.

Have a great Memorial Day all.

Coffee and a cookie would be swell.
