Boss: White Flag

Boss falls asleep staring at a picture of her husband.

Today would be their 16-year anniversary if he were still around. No matter how many happy thoughts she fills her mind with before closing her eyes, the memories return.

They were walking through a small town, guard up. Her feelings are safely tucked away in a hidden place, a dark place at the back of her mind. She told herself she was just doing her job; just listening to those who command her.

A mother's cries sound.

A 3-year-old runs towards them.

She shoots; he drops.

Red stains the little white flag.

She wakes up, crying.
