Every day is a great opportunity to do that which is right and that which is good, to live our lives according to the precepts of kindness and decency however most of us fail in some way or other to live up to these ideals. Why is this? what is it in us that makes us not realise our full potential to be the people that we are meant to be.
For some of us it is selfishness, for others it is a proud and boastful nature and then of course there are those who are just too lazy to care about others or what is going on in their own communities never mind the world at large. It is a fact that in the modern world as we have all grown more prosperous than our forefathers and we have more leisure time on our hands we have strayed from a sense of community that those who came before us had. We have become a care-less society of seekers after pleasure, we have become the "I want that and I want that now" generation.
A vast amount of people have become what can only be described as hard nosed Hedonists lunging from one pleasure filled moment to the other, but how fleeting that pleasure is when compared to the real pleasure of being able to serve those who for no reason of their own are less fortunate than we are. Aiding others and not seeking frivolous pastimes should be our goal, instead of a care-less society let us become a care-more society.
