Love & Affection Challenge: Ruby

Love & Affection Challenge: Ruby

You could give me roses, the most beautiful of flowers...

You could give me roses, the most beautiful of flowers,

Or take me out to dinner and sit for several hours.

You could buy a fancy card, filled with words of love,

Perhaps a gilded cage with a single white dove.

You could get a diamond ring, the one I have is old,

It sits upon my finger, beside the band of gold.

You could whisper in my ear, sweet words of love and more,

But they really would be nothing that I hadn't heard before.

All those things are lovely but none of them is new,

Of all the things we've done, so far, those are but a few.

So no, my wish, you see, is really not so grand,

You can take me, then, to a not so distant land.

In our favourite place we'll sit, with coffee and a tea,

Quietly sitting, sipping together, just you and just me.

For forty years have passed, so quickly have they gone,

Our children now have children of their very own.

Of course, you'll buy me something, of that there is no fear,

But I will always love you and forever I'll be here.
