I went back and finished Poor Things (Talia didn’t) and I ended up liking it. It get a lot better once she learns to talk. After that it reminded me less of Frankenstein and more of Candide. The very end with the goat was kinda dumb, but I liked it.

To expand on my ALL CAPS review of Dune 2, it’s been ages since I read the books, but he certainly seemed faithful to the vibe and the storyline. I thought the first Dune was a little slow and ponderous, though I really liked the world building. I thought it ended really abruptly too. It all pays off in Dune 2, where knowledge of that world is essential to the action and plot turns. I bet it works well to see them back to back.

I highly recommend seeing this on as large a screen as possible. Great movie. And oh, those worms!

I watched Anatomy of a Fall. It was nominated for best picture. I thought it was well done with an excellent cast.

Just started 3 Body Problem. The 1st episode was excellent, we'll see what they do with it tonight. It's gotten a lot of crap in the press, I've noticed.

I finally watched Dune 2. It covers so much ground I had to watch it again to appreciate it fully. I think it does an excellent job with the source material.

The last one I saw in the theater was Abagail. It was great and I can't wait for it to start streaming so I can watch it again to see the little things I might have missed.

The last movie I watched was Dune 2. I echo Gillian and Verbal, this was excellent.

I watched The First Omen today. It wasn't bad, but you know how some things are going to turn out if you've seen the other movies in the franchise. It's not something I'd watch again.

Not on DVD or in a theater, but I finally saw Godzilla Minus One. Oh wow, did they ever stick the landing on this one. An intense, moving personal drama about a kamikaze pilot who backed out of his mission and has serious PTSD combined with a dark tale of Godzilla terrorizing a late forties Japan that is still recovering from the bombings and other events of the war's end. And all done so, so well. It landed the Oscar for VFX but the writing and acting are top notch, too.

Minus One is a standalone, not related to any other Godzilla movies but there's a post-credit stinger that leaves the door open for a sequel if Toho wants to go there. I think this movie stands very well on its own and would be quite happy to see it remain a standalone.

I watched Frankenstein on Netflix. I was looking forward to this one. I love anything Frankenstein and Guillermo Del Toro, but I didn't like it as much as I wanted to. It was a gorgeous movie, but some of the plot lines disappointed me.

I watched Weapons on HBO Max when my youngest son was here. It was disturbing, but interesting. Amy Madigan was excellent. I wouldn't watch it again; it's intense, and I wasn't a fan of the ending, if you could call it that.

I watched the latest Knives Out movie. It was good. Those movies entertain me and remind me of all the old Agatha Christie movies. I am assuming that is the point.

I watched two movie adaptations of Stephen King's stories. The Long Walk and The Life of Chuck. They were both good adaptations. The Long Walk was a brutal, heart-wrenching story, but the cast and writing were excellent. I really enjoyed The Life of Chuck. It's almost the polar opposite in tone and story. There is some sadness and grief, but the story was interesting and well done. Oddly, Mark Hamill is in both films.

He seems to be getting busier again, doesn't he? For a while there, unless you knew that he was the voice of the Joker in the various DC animated series, you could have been forgiven for thinking he had retired from acting.

It's excellent, though it took me awhile to get to it. I think they are going to bring in Ghidorah next.

Three headed space dragon seems a bit out there for this version of Godzilla but I'd be down for it. King Ghidorah is probably my second favourite kaiju after the Big G himself.

We watched Materialists last night for Valentine’s Day. Really above average rom-com. Other than Dakota Fanning living in Manhattan on $80k a year, we totally bought into it. Well rounded characters, excellent dialogue, good acting. I just enjoyed listening to everyone talk. Highly recommended.

Finally saw del Toro's Frankenstein. Really good movie. It's long as heck, and there's a bit of drag in the middle, but, boy is it a beautifully shot movie. Very emotional too.

I watched Eden last weekend. I knew nothing about it except who the actors were. Not until after did I realize it was based on a true story. I love Jude Law and was impressed with Sydney Sweeney. I didn't even recognize her at the beginning. It was interesting.

This afternoon, I went to the movies with my sister and brother-in-law and watched Supergirl. It was not what I expected. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate it as a 6. I will give any spoilers.

Supergirl, Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin, was played by Milly Alcock. Early in the movie, I was disappointed with her portrayal of the character, but as the story progressed, I had to reevaluate my previous thoughts. After understanding the character arc of her role, I believe Ms. Alcock did a fairly good job.

If you know some of DC's history, you will appreciate that they brought in the well-known comic book character Lobo, played by none other than Jason Momoa. He was perfect for the role! He played the character like Yo-Yo Ma on a cello!

The villain was Krem of the Yellow Hills, expertly played by Matthias Schoenaerts. The antagonist was evil, vile, disgusting, and very powerful. The only problem with Krem was that his interpretation was of a two-dimensional evil villain. In most of today's entertainment, antagonists have reasons for their actions, even if those reasons are wrong, like Thanos in the Marvel universe.

It had the usual fights, battles, and explosions. The special effects were good, and the CGI work was about 90% as good as Disney/Marvel, but still acceptable.

I have always enjoyed the movie theater experience, and knowing what I do now, I am glad I went. It helped that the theater in this small town is really inexpensive, and I cannot get out of the house often.
