My husband and I rode our Harley Davidson Ultra Limited motorcycles from Fairfax County, VA to the 75th anniversary Sturgis, SD motorcycle rally in August 2015. We then continued west into Yellowstone National Park then south through Grand Teton National Park and Rocky Mountain National Park before returning eastward back to Fairfax. Over 10,000 miles over 2 weeks.

Dad was USAF and we drove cost-to-coast 11 times while growing up. Been to 49 of the 50 states, Alaska is on my bucket list.

My husband and have risen coast-to-coast and completed 38 "Iron Butts" (minimum 1000+m miles in 24 hours, 'SaddleSore 1000'.) Many 'BunBurner 1500 Gold ,' 1500+ miles in 24 hours, and 1 'BunBurner 3000 Gold,' 3000+ miles in 48 hours. Also 'Great Lakes Challenge Gold,' circumnavigate all five Great Lakes in 50 hours. On our bucket list, Coast-to-Coast in 50 hours challenge.

This was hitch-hiking, so other people were doing the driving, but I hitch-hiked from Iowa to NYC TWICE! Once in college, with a friend, a straight shot that took maybe three days. A few years later I did it again, but by myself, and via Canada. That took me two weeks.

Deeply fun and no regrets, but I would never do it again. SO dangerous. I was lucky.

I have just booked what for me will be the longest road trip ever, in September.

Day One: Ipswich, Suffolk (UK). 220 miles

Day Two: Kaatsheuvel (Netherlands). 210 miles

Day Eight: Hamburg (Germany). 310 miles

Day Fourteen: Delft (Netherlands). 325 miles

Day Fifteen: Back home.410 miles.

A total of some 1475 miles... plus days out!

Our vacation included an eight day circuit of Iceland, but we didn't have to drive (guided tour in a Mercedes minibus). Forget the total length in km right now.

Driving to Albuquerque for an eclipse in October.

Next big trip: sleeper car up the left coast to Vancouver. Cruise from there to Alaska.

Both sound fun. We saw the last eclipse at Bryce Canyon in Utah. Did not plan it that way, just worked out. And loved our Alaska cruise. We went from Seattle but there won't be much difference I imagine except you might go up the strait instead of around Vancouver Island like we did.
