I thought maybe our work can added right away instead of it being reviewed and what about updating our statuses to Facebook or Twitter. Also do stories space have a Facebook page and Twitter page, if not it'll be good to get them to attract more fans and people. Let's make stories space the next Facebook. Also I thought it'll be good for member to create groups on here, create pages for their favorite authors, writer, actors Etc. also let's connect this site to the business and if famous celebrities see it they'll see what members has created for them. I thought maybe in the search bar we find favorite authors Etc. and fan them and let's say that you liked a member you can fan them also and rate their work and comment and review.

Also let's create a book club and have contests. We can also get our work into a book or magazine. I have more ideas too so contact me...

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your suggestions.

Here are the Stories Space Facebook and Twitter links: http://www.storiesspace.com/forum/yaf_postst23_Twitter-and-Facebook.aspx

The reason stories are sent through to be verified first is just to make sure they comply with site guidelines and also to ensure areas like spelling/grammar etc are up to standard. They're only sent back to the author if any edits are required, otherwise they're approved very quickly.

As far as making an author a favourite, that can be done when you click on one of their stories. On the right hand side of the page, just below the author's avatar is a list of options such as making the story a favourite only or following the author. Once you're following an author you'll receive an automatic private message every time they post a new story or poem. Your favourite authors will show up on the left side of your profile page, as well as a list of any stories you've added to your favourites.

Another member, Van Gogh, has suggested a book club and we're currently looking into it: http://www.storiesspace.com/forum/yaf_postst422_Book-Club.aspx

We've run one competition so far http://www.storiesspace.com/forum/yaf_postst202_Our-First-Competition.aspx but there will be more in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback and suggestions!

Hi Lisa,
Why don't you send a mass mailing out to all the members urging them to recruit one new member? even if only 10% did, we would have over 50 new members. WOOHOO!!!!
We don't know how much we don't know.

Wait a minute now Adele...we currently have 415 members...10% would be like 42...

Hmmm...I need to get out my calculator here...

I'd like to see an area in the forum dedicated to readers rather than writers. Somewhere to share book recommendations, tell people what you're reading or have read and what you think of it.

There is a lot of space dedicated to writers on the forum and I wonder if we might attract more community members interested in reading if we expanded the topics in this way.

Well, I'm probably nit picking, but "Ask the reader" still seems to me to be about asking for suggestions rather than sharing.

I scanned down the list of forum topics looking for where to post about books I had read, saw "ask the reader" and "ask for readers' opinions on story ideas" and thought, well I don't have a question for readers, that doesn't seem suitable. Hence the recommendation here.

I wondered if maybe it might not be working to attract readers to the forum, that's all.

I have a few suggestions that you might be interested in-I know what you’re thinking, new guy wants changes. That’s not it at all. These are just a few things I think would be interesting.

Sub-categories on the submission page. I enjoy Flash Fiction, but don’t like Romance (please don’t anyone be offended, it just a personal choice) I know you can use tags but sub-categories might make it easier.

Authors note. Completely optional of course. I personally enjoy finding out how a person got their idea or inspiration for a story.

Weekly writing prompts. Maybe make it a category, or a contest. I would love to see how different writers make use of the same prompt, horror ,romance humor, ect. It would be really interesting.
There's another site I check out once a week just for the interesting prompts, it might be a way to get new members.

These are just some thing I'd enjoy seeing

Sorry, Don, I missed this post. Thank you for the suggestions. The sub-categories one would be difficult to organise with the way our home page is currently set out, but I like the writing prompts idea. That's definitely worth looking into.

Hi there Moderators,

I have a quick suggestion for some of the "behind the scenes" workers.

But before I do, let me preface it by saying this site ROCKS, as is! It's easy to navigate, full of great options (and great reads of course) and the chat rooms are easy to navigate.

That said, I have noticed that when I click on a link within the chats, it directs me OUT of this site and replaces StoriesSpace with the new URL. Instead, I would advise linking in a manner that creates a new tab/window. (I am no HTML expert, but my tiny experience with web site updating has taught me the value of this trick.) Doing this would mean one is able to get back to the Stories Space site without having to hit the back button and/or re-login.

Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

Sometimes it's your browser settings. Try looking for a setting that says "open links in a new tab" or something of that ilk. You could also right click the link, a menu will come up and you can choose to open it in a new tab and sometimes, if you've got a middle mouse button, that'll open stuff in a new tab, hope this helps. Good suggestion though.

Thank you for the suggestion, Diana. I'm not too clued up on how the tech side of things work, but I will bring it up with our resident IT guy.

That said, what Andrew suggests also works. Just right click on the link and select the "open link in new tab" option.

Keep the suggestions coming, we welcome any suggestion that will improve the site. smile

Hello,

While the new story commenting feature is welcomed enhancement, I have notice two things about it...

The first is the increased load times. That's partially my problem because I do not have access to broadband, but load times have dramatically increased.

The second is that if an Author "Likes" a comment I get a posting to my Activity Page. If they reply to a comment, or anyone for that matter, nothing. Anyway a Comment "Reply" can be posted to Activity Page or even better a Message sent to me if I've opted for it?

Just asking......
