Carole King was a songstress for my generation in the 70s. Tapestry is an album and a song on that album.

Tapestry is a great album! My sister had it – I was a little young yet, but nevertheless nearly wore it out.

Really? .. Now I will def look for it. Lot of rummaging to do this morning biggrin

What was the conference like? I have never been to one.

Still debating pies but these have to be included I am told. Anyone who requests something has to make something.

Apple
Pumpkin
Pumpkin Cheese (Basically a cheesecake on the bottom topped with pumpkin pie)
Apple Pumpkin with a Streusel Topping
Triple Berry Pie
Lemon Meringue Pie (It doesn't really go with the holiday but it is my Dad's favorite)

I'll have a Cocoa Cola Please. Extra Cold with ice.

I know it's a coffee shop but I brought a box of cocktail umbrellas to liven up the non-coffee drinks. I hope no one minds.

You and your cocktail umbrellas. I suppose you stole those from that nondescript bar you hang out in.

That Pumpkin Cheese pie sounds yummy. And there is never a bad time for Lemon Meringue. Mom used to make that one year round.

Just back from some weekend shopping. I got a large chrysanthemum. To plant in the area around my sycamore in front. It will fill in a gap next to other mums.

All the other groceries and sundries are put away so I could use a cuppa java, if you please, while I listen to French cafe music.

Cheers, all.

You brought a tear to my eye... you must play TAPESTRY... you will understand.. most here won't.
What a legacy he left on the cafe scene here in France.

Do you mean Tapestry by Carole King? That's all that comes to mind at the moment.

I expect they serve cocoa here if the machine has hot water to make the instant stuff.

Don't know much about Carol King sorry, although I know she is a rage from the past as a song writer/singer. Is 'Tapestry' the name of an album by her?.

Not all French Cafes blurt out accordian music 24 hours. Some even have DJ's at night, especially at the weekends. I do rather like accordian music though and if you are really deeply immersed do you listen to Swiss and Bavarian? Especially the latter.

Back to Paris ... late night over an over heavy Bordeaux or coffee and cognac you can find a softer more melancholy background...

The 'Tapestry' I spoke of is by Charles Aznavour.. it's actually called 'A Tapestry Of Dreams' ... my uncle gave me it when he was clearing out his old vinyls. I have only really listened to the French and German ones .. plus a few Greek. He parted with over 1600 of them .. I should look for Carole King?

Oh, what a shame. Charles Aznavour just passed away. I did love his work. He was a protege of Edith Piaf, I think. I have one of her songs here on my profile (Non, je ne regrette rien) and one of his, as well (La bohme). Carole King was a songstress for my generation in the 70s. Tapestry is an album and a song on that album.

Yes at the beginning of last month. Not much fuss in the US I guess... but here and Internationally he was revered. The French speaking countries held their big meet in Armenia and the international media never missed an opportunity to reference Charles Aznavour and his Armenian heritage... made the coverage interesting at least!

Back to accordian musique ... you might like to check out Andre Verchuren for Parisienne and continental flavours... 'Les fiances d'Auvergne" is awesome, also 'Accordeon Poete'. If you can skip the singing then Florian Silbereisen you might enjoy. He was a child prodigy (I'm told) on the accordian. Bavarian of course.

Ahem!
Don't forget ... Steak & Mushroom and the all time fav Mince & Cheese.
My actual fav is Potato Top .. when they use real potatoe that is.

After spending the day at a writers conference, I’m stopping in to unwind before heading home. What a wonderful spot this is!

Sounds better than the conference I was at a couple weeks ago. User group for some of the software we run at work. *yawn*

At least I got to spend time in the Southwest US. I've fallen in love with that part of the States.

I did forget Mincemeat Pie (That is my Mother's favorite)

I do hang out in some questionable places but I always bring some cocktail umbrellas to make them more friendly.

It's finally gotten seasonably colder here. I love this time of year.

My only issue is my attire. I have a very, very slow healing surgical incision on the back of my knee so I have been wearing shorts or short skirts. I can't keep doing that.

Taking our boat out tomorrow. It is beautiful on the bay and it is still Rockfish season. Hopefully, we'll catch one and can have it for dinner.

Cheers Everyone!

The scar on my back from having a cyst removed this summer still bothers me at times. In the summer, going shirtless helped but it's too cold now. Fortunately, it's been okay recently.

What was the conference like? I have never been to one.

This one is small and has a friendly, supportive atmosphere. There was a keynote address Friday evening and six hours of sessions on Saturday. Each hour, participants had a choice of three different sessions — a few about business and marketing, but most focused on the craft of writing.

Next week, I’m tagging along with Mr. Rascal (as a carpool buddy) to a computer security conference. Some of the topics are interesting, but others... Let’s just say I always seem to get some writing done during those two days.

The Southwest is beautiful at certain times of the year, but you don’t want to be there in July, when it’s 118°F/48°C.

What a fantastic idea!

I will happily draw up a chair, ask for a coffee and join the chat (especially if it's about baking!)

Having sprained my foot some weeks back, I managed to get to a local Tango social dance last night and danced a bit without making it worse. Hooray!

And may I suggest some bottles of still and sparkling water for the fridge here? Might go down well with patrons. 🍶 as long as they are served with cocktail umbrellas!

Ouch. Vibes on the ankle, curvy, and glad to hear you were able to dance on it. I used to be bad for messing up my ankles but haven't done it in a while (cross fingers, knock on wood).

Water in the fridge is a great idea, but I think we'll just put sparkling. For still, we'll put in a filter/cooler connected to the mains. More environmentally friendly.

-2C when I got up and clear so we had a good frost. Once it warms up, I'm going to clean out the garage and put my car inside. Saves me scraping/brushing in the morning now that winter is looming.

I'm over in the corner listening to the chatter - didn't see me? I am rather quiet. Don't suppose you've got soya hot chocolate, have you? I might emerge from my corner for that, especially if it's got marshmallows in it

It's time for a morning cuppa java. Cleaning out the garage to make room for the cars. Hmm... Where is the stuff gonna go? I keep it simple. My garage is large enough for two vehicles and they are garaged year round. I am a minimalist when it comes to keeping stuff I no longer need.

Lots of music in the coffee house. Makes it rather picturesque and inviting.

* adds soy and regular hot chocolate to the beverage bar. And marshmallows. *

Problem is, I don't have a shed. So stuff like the mower, weed trimmer, bicycles, etc. take up part of the garage during the season when they're in use, then get stashed away in various corners of the garage or the basement come the off season. My car sits outside while they are "out" but can pull in once they are put away. Mrs. M's SUV gets garage space year-round, though.

Thanks Scott!

It's the top of my foot I've sprained, but luckily it isn't fractured. I'm so pleased to be able to dance on it a bit again. smile

Thanks for the water and glad to see some soya milk in the fridge too.

Lovely to see such a good crowd in here. :)

I actually had weird foot problem this summer. Right ankle got weak and the foot was bit numb, like it was asleep. My PT finally figured out that I had sat cross-legged too long in a stupid corporate meeting, compressing a nerve. Came back in time so that it didn't affect our vacation plans for hiking in the Appalachians.

The Bookshop stockholders will be meeting in the morning. Hopefully, they bring pencils and notepads. It will be a roundtable discussion on, how to get rid of chalk marks without an eraser?

Glad you got that sorted for the hiking holiday. It sounds painful!

I managed to bash the top of my foot a few times over the summer (no, I wasn't kicking in doors again!) so at least I know what's caused this. I have a few dance things on this week, so hopefully it will hold up ok!

And I could do with a coffee, please! Do you do a noisette? ☕

I am hating DST more and more every year. It's like picking up an hour of jet lag without even the fun of a trip. More and more musings going around about dumping the annual time shift so we shall see. The province of Saskatchewan here in Canada never adopted it and they seem to be surviving. It's not just the sleep disruptions. My body clock get messed up so get I hungry an hour too early (or too late if we're talking spring) and crap like that as well. I'll get over it, of course, but still...

Minimalist simply means getting rid of things you really don't need. I understand that there is always room for more shoes.

I need a cuppa java, if you please.
