Jeff, I wonder if it is the same med I take for sciatica nerve pain.

I'm almost sure it's the same thing. I'm glad you are lowering your dose. That memory loss thing is frikkin scary. It does seem to be temporary, though.

I hope everyone is well. I just finished the second draft of Mr. Novel. I think some celebratory drinking may be in my future tonight.

Happy three day weekend to all of you, except the Canadians, whom I'll wish a happy two day weekend.

We get Labour Day, too, actually. Had a nice weekend here. Mowed the lawn (with all the rain we've been getting, it's growing like crazy). Took my laptop on the deck to write. A couple nice long walks.

Mostly focusing on a new project for the other site (you know the one) but also have something happening that might be a novel? Or novella? It's kind of insane because I am kind of building it in a haphazard fashion. Like I just thought of a scene that could go in one spot that would eliminate a short flashback in another so I am going to slip it in ahead of that scene.

Basic plot is a young woman (19) and her father dealing with the loss of their mother/wife in a car crash that also left the daughter with serious injuries. A lot of it deals with the daughter and how she puts her life back together with the support of friends and faith. There's a strong romance element, too, as she struggles between two possible relationships, both old friends. Might get a bit sexy as that part heats up. Still haven't decided how much "spice" (as the romance writers call it) this should have. Maybe too little for (censored) but at the upper limit of here.

Weird thing is, this began as a project just to get myself writing. Now it seems to have taken on a life of its own and I'm finding it hard to pull away to work on other projects. There must be some kind of emotional resonance between me and these characters (besides the father, there's their church's minister and a bunch of the daughter's friends).

Yeah. I wrote a crappy novel last year, and it bummed me out. I took the characters and the town and just started messing around, and came up with something I think (hope!) is better. You never know when and how inspiration strikes. The muse is so fickle....

Good luck on your project!

I hope everyone is doing well. Do any of you find that, as you write a story, the characters quickly take over and start writing the story themselves?

You can't get there from here, because when you get there you're still here and here is now there.

Sometimes. I've had characters who kind of "helped" me shape their story before. Those are sometimes the easiest ones to write. They flow more easily at any rate.

Good evening. Wet one here, today. Seems like it will be fine now through the weekend, though.

That happens to me often. Usually in dialogue - when chracters start talking, I lose control of what they say.

Pitching my novel at the beginning of October, at a writing conference. I've never pitched anything before! I don't expect to get signed or anything, but you gotta start somewhere. It's good practice.

Hope everyone is well! I left a bag of M&Ms for you all to nosh on.

Good on you. That's a start, anyhow.

Hi, all. Been messing around with ideas but not getting much out this year. Right now, I am trying to re-engage with my forever writing project, the female "Robinson Crusoe" that I have mentioned before. Still wrestling with the lead's backstory but I have the island kind of sorted with some help from Claude, the LLM AI. Basically described the island and some spots that I've already used in drafts and Claude made me a map. Makes it easier to visualize where she's going and that sort of thing. I think I got the size right, too, at 300 sq km (115 sq mi). Enough that she can get around but big enough to make it a challenge and to provide a hiding place when she needs one. Tobago, in Trinidad and Tobago, for instance. And Malta is just a bit bigger.

Good morning/afternoon/evening, what ever it is where you are!!

Time to revive this place a bit. I've given the cafe a spruce up and restocked the fridge with cold bevvies and ice cream.

Coffee is on, a dark roast from Costa Rica and a decaf. Teas are Irish Breakfast and Kenyan Kembaa along with a pot of Sunshine Tea, a nice herbal I found.

And there's goodies, too!

Hey everyone,

I hope you all have been well. I've been popping in every so often these past few months. I was having a rough time after Pinky's passing (my dog). I had given up on ever wanting to rescue another dog. I love dogs very much but losing Rose (family pitbull) and then Pinky a few months after...that was rough. One day in July or August my family came home and kept calling my name. They had rescued a dog for me! He's one yr old, the same age as Sasha, our Plott Hound/Pitbull. He's a Boston Terrier Chihuahua mix, maybe a little Pug. He also looks just like a puppy and he's finished growing; he's a forever puppy! I named him Rocco immediately, after St. Rocco, patron of dogs. He and Sasha get along very well. Rocco is so cute; his features remind me of Rose; all black with some white markings. ❤️

I'm currently taking an Ecclesiastical Latin course at my church. It started a couple weeks ago and goes till December 13. I've wanted to learn Latin for years so this is exciting.

Thoughts of a song flutter through my mind every now and then. I think I might write a story soon. I miss writing.

Finally, I'm so happy Autumn has come around again, my favorite season.

I hope you all have a lovely day. 🍁

Mine, too. Been a nice one around here, too. Sunny, reasonable temps (esp. after the hot summer), just a couple wet days.

Nice to see you again. And a warm welcome to the new puppy!

I learned classical Latin starting in high school and then as part of my Classics degree. Never really took the time to see how Ecclesiastical Latin differed other than I know it's derived from the Vulgate rather than the Classical Latin of Cicero and the like. Good luck with the studies!

I don't think California knows what fall is, honestly. We seem to be stuck in perpetual summer. Yech.

Why do you think everyone else idealizes the place? Especially those of us in Canada and northern parts of the US.

I'm glad you're enjoying weather up in Canada. Chicago has had about a week of rainy weather also, but I like rain.

Thank you! It's good to be back. Thank you for the warm welcome to Rocco. He's currently playing tug-of-war with Sasha.

I remember awhile back you said you learned Classical Latin. I learned how Cicero would write one sentence that would take the space of a paragraph. My teacher studied Classical but also knows Ecclesiastical. Pronunciation is different. I have the Vulgate; fascinating to read even in English. Thank you for the good luck! Latin is tough right now and I've only just begun. Grammar is what's discouraging me but I'm determined. Thanks again!

Nice hearing from you, JustAnotherSapphic. I don't recall seeing you in Inspirations before, but I've been absent for awhile. Anyway, hey. I hope to hear more from you.

Good morning, everyone,

I didn't get much sleep last night so I'm still kind of out of it. I decided I might write a memoir. I do want to write a creative fictional piece very much. I hope you all are doing well and enjoying your weekend.

Now that's a good use of pumpkin spice. Forget the lattes and chais, pumpkin spice belongs in desserts.

Good afternoon. Cool but otherwise nice here today. I'm nursing a bit of a headache but might try to go out soon and do some yardwork. We'll see.

Later, alligators.

I've been here awhile. I just forget the place exists sometimes. By the way, my name is Lys.

Hey everyone.

Hope your headache is gone, Mendalla. I'm running over a two week streak of constant migraines. I hope you're feeling better.

Nice to officially meet you, Lys. You can call me Cora or Ellie, whichever you prefer. Hope you're doing well.

Two nights ago I woke up with strained muscles and muscle spasms. I slept in a really awkward position. I have a high pain tolerance but I can't remember the last time I was in so much pain. I'm on constant bedrest besides a couple chores. Hopefully tomorrow is better.

I hope everyone is having a lovely day.

Good evening. Another week over and up here in the Great White North, we are celebrating Thanksgiving. What am I thankful for? Being alive, mostly. Having a good family. Music, which is a bit part of what gives me joy these days.

Good weekend morning!

I keep coming back to this danged writing project. It's going to be either my magnum opus or my downfall. Not sure which. I now have a timeline in an Obsidian note just to make sure things like ages all line up with the backstory I have in mind. It goes back to the births of the protagonists' parents (I wanted to make sure their ages made sense in light of some other events.

The story as a whole is kind of a soap opera. A young woman recovering from injuries and losing her mother juggles two possible relationships, both of them old friends. She's also questioning her sexuality (one of the possible partners is a woman). Her widowed father has a new relationship of his own developing. A discovery about their mother/wife's past throws a wrinkle into things. And other ideas that keep popping up. I almost want to just start publishing it in short segments with an "Until the next episode of ..." at the end of each.

November is stacked for me, y'all.

On the fifth, the ground-up reimagining of Ocarina if Time releases. The next day, new, never before heard Tom Petty music from his early years. And on the twentieth, the third season of the Percy Jackson series is out.

Oo. Ape interested. Had not heard this.

My son started reading the books many years ago when Riordan started writing them. I took him and a friend to the movie version of the first book. However, he kind of soured on fantasy as a whole not much after that. And I never really got into the Jackson books myself.

The TV series is great, very book faithful. As to Tommy, it's part of the 50th anniversary of the Heartbreakers...the new stuff is from 1971 thru 1978 I think.

Dang, I was just a kid in grade school back then. I remember seeing Damn The Torpedoes being advertised by local record stores which was the first time I heard of Tom (which came out in 1979, the year I started high school). I think his duet with Stevie Nicks on "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" (from her 1981 album Belladonna) was the first time he clicked with me. I was already a fan of her from Fleetwood Mac and this song is just so so good with the two of them. Of course, despite being on Stevie's album, it was actually a Heartbreakers song, originally written by Tom and Mike Campbell with the band playing backup.

I hope everyone is doing well. I finally got back from vacation. We were staying on Hatteras Island, and a nor'easter washed out the only road on and off the island. Most realtors let people stay in their rentals because no one could get on or off the island. On the third day, they started emergency ferries off the island, but people were stuck in lines for over 24 hours. Thankfully, our realtor let us stay longer, and we made it off when they opened a temporary one-way road off the island. There are worse places to be stuck. The house was lovely, with a pool and a hot tub. A few extra days for free is not something I am going to complain about. But once I got home, I had to contend with a few unexpected issues with my dad. No surprise there.

Hopefully things will remain calmer from now on, since my middle son is getting married next month and we are having family come from Canada. For now, I'm enjoying a rainy Sunday and trying to catch up on some reading.

Take care, everyone. cheers.

Ouch. Glad the real estate people were cooperative. That sounds like a real mess in the making absent their good will.

And hope all goes well for the wedding. Rainy day here, too, though its settled a bit from earlier this morning. Still cloudy with a chance of showers, though.

Nice to see you, Gil.
