Well, I'm not an American, but just saw a good documentary on the Mothman, so maybe that? (search for Monstrum on Youtube and it's the latest episode)

Here in Ontario, we have Mussie in Muskrat Lake, a creature similar to Ogopogo (Lake Okanagan, BC) and Nessie (Loch Ness, Scotland).

I probably saw the lake many, many years ago when driving from our family cottage to Ottawa. No monster, though.

What interests me is these story category changes you are talking about. The only one I have seen anything about so far is a historical category. Is there another list being touted somewhere that I have not been aware of?

Despite having far more terrifying features than any self-respecting monster actually needs, the Snallygaster remains popular three centuries after it was first spotted; it even has a guest role in the Harry Potter universe.

Early settlers told tales of a demonic, bird-like creature with a metallic beak filled with teeth. In 1909, locals reported seeing a bird-like monster with; “enormous wings, a long-pointed bill, claws like steel hooks and an eye in the center of its forehead”.

Virginia has more than its fair share of ghosts and legends.. The 2 middle school I attended were haunted. The college I attended had a famous ghost .

Here in CA, we have "The Dark Watchers". Native Americans describe them as 15-foot tall shadows. I think me and a flashlight can run 'em outta town.
