Wow. The latest (and possibly final given that the album drops in a month) single from Floor Jansen's debut solo album Paragon came out today. It's a beauty, really showing off her well-honed voice from more delicate singing at the beginning to her powerful belts towards the end.
In some ways, you wonder why Floor is only releasing material under her own name after 25 years as a professional musician. OTOH, 25 years in 4 different bands has really polished her voice and performance skills.

So hard to believe that this was released five years ago! A collaboration between Tuomas Holopainen and Troy Donockley, both of Nightwish, and Tuomas' wife, Johanna Kurkela. Her voice is so pure and sweet. Perfect for this band.

A most excellent track by the Rolling Stones that I hadn't heard before.
This is the 2009 remix version of the 1971 track, Can't You Hear Me Knocking?
Is it just me but this sounds as though it was influenced by Santana?

I would love to be able to listen to anything in the car right now. Damn modern technology! The Infotainment system has failed and Mitsubishi are blaming the Chip shortage as the reason they can't replace it right away. 😠
If I could, I would be listening to this;

Oh man, I'd go nuts without my Android Auto. I have an Amazon Music Unlimited sub so mostly use it in the car now rather than radio.
I have been listening to The Hu, a wonderful Mongolian folk metal band, on and off for a while but this is new track features them teaming up with William Duvall of Alice in Chains. Sounds like it's actually for a soundtrack.

So from the interesting coincidence file: One of my team at work mentioned that I might like a band called Asking Alexandria (he knows about my love of metal). So I mentally filed the name. Then, last night while checking out another band, Amazon Music recommended ... you guessed it, Asking Alexandria. Yeah, they're terrific. They are actually a relatively old band and have evolved over time. I listened to an album from 2011 and it was really heavy on screams and harsh vocals, but their recent stuff (including this song) feature more traditional rock vocals. The guest artist here, as I imagine Anna knows, is Sharon den Adel of the band Within Temptation who is another of those great female metal voices that I rant about.

Is there a post for soundtracks to your stories? If not, should there be one?
Anyway, this Artie's theme for the series "The Artie Stories" which I've been posting.
I usually put these in their own thread in Sing Your Praises since they are basically a promo for the story. Haven't done it in a while, though I do have some songs I could post for The Chronicles of Tana.

Originally, it looked like The Dark Side of the Moon, a project led by vocalist Melissa Bonny and guitarist Hans Platz was going to be a cover band. However, their new release is an original song.

Adam is no Freddy but he has nonetheless pulled off some pretty incredible performances with Queen, not to mention his own career.
My big musical event of the past week was the release of Floor Jansen's solo album Paragon. The final single was the opening track, "My Paragon."
And, amazingly, Floor actually managed to one-up herself by announcing that she is pregnant with her second child a few days before the album dropped. She is now on the Asian leg of Nightwish's Human : || : Nature tour and, yeah, after watching some fan vids from the tour I see why she announced when she did. There's no hiding it anymore. She's even referenced it a few times in her banter it seems.

It is Friday which means new albums. Ad Infinitum started life as a crowdfunded solo project of Swiss singer Melissa Bonny and is now on their third album called, aptly, Chapter III. This new video is for the opening track.

New live album from Austrian-based band Visions of Atlantis and it is a beauty. I got into this band last year when their album Pirates came out. This is a live version of my favorite song off the album and one of my faves of 2022 period.

I just listened to the whole album. I have a feeling it may just be getting ordered! 👌

Visions are amazing. They do have a bit of a revolving door lineup, unfortunately. Clementine (female singer) has been around a while now but I think Pirates last year was Michele's (male singer) first studio album with them. I am hoping he sticks around a while. I like how his voice works with Clementine's. Rather like Marko Hietala's work with the female leads in Nightwish.
In much different vein, English choral group Voces8 do a range of music from Renaissance through to modern. Here they team up with American composer Eric Whitacre for one of his works with Whitacre himself conducting.
