Seriously guys, I am stuck in writers block and I need something inspiring to help me write again. I haven't written anything since October! Please, can you help me out?
That's good advice, James, I like it.
Justine, you could also try picking a category you haven't yet written a story in, one you don't necessarily think about or read, even.
Or write a meditation on the problem, give vent to the writer's block, a musing on the frustration of the problem. Who knows, facing it head-on like that might kick it to the curb and you can get beyond it.
Sadly, I'm not much help, I think my writer's block has taken up permanent residence. If you find a solution, share it here, please, and good luck.
Life is all around you. Take a walk. Sit on a bench. Watch people. Take random pics with your phone. Sometimes my best thoughts come to me while I'm driving and a panorama of topics whisk by my windows.
what about a childhood memory or a illness that touched your heart, or a dream you have or want..
you are such a good writer I feel it is you that should be helping me.
I'm having the annoying problem of being able to think of things to write, but physically unable to write them. Most of you know why, but for those who don't: Peripheral neuropathy, about which I'll say no more. Anyway, to get over writers block, I usually just write. I know, it sounds nuts, but half (at least) of my ideas go nowhere, anyway, so just writing them out, even if it's a fleeting thought, can help. Thinking of rhyming words can help, too. You really just need to get your mind off the idea of having writers block. You could try replacing lyrics with your own made up ones. It doesn't really matter if the writing is crap, so long as you're getting ideas out there. Some will end in nothing, but you can always recycle ideas, or you could revisit old stories.
Thank you all for responding. I think I have something. Fingers crossed.
I have did it. I decide to stick with memoirs for now. It helping me to clear my head and take some frustrations out. As ping said baby steps!
Sweat it not, Hayley. As you pointed out, your post might help others. With traffic being a tad slow, subject matter is way more important than any posting date.
Your post reminded me of "Writing Down the Bones" by, Natalie Goldberg, the world's only Jewish, Zen Master, writing coach...probably. In it, she gives some original suggestions for unblocking and freeing the 'inner' writer.

What helped me was another hobby I took up, photography. Once I began looking at the pictures I shot, a few words started to marinate in my mind about what I can write. i would take out a notebook and write fragments until a form of a story looked as though it was forming. Right now, I'm still recovering from a severe case of writer's block and began writing posts for my website. Eventually, I want to get back to short story writing and writing for an online publication. Ironically, I can churn out academic papers that are 10+ pages that includes footnotes, end notes and citations in an instant.
Thank you all for your advice, because I have indeed run into the problem again and this does help.
