Just got this...is there any journal that will ever reject this story? Actually, there is one...I'll be back on that ...

Dear Alan Jankowski,

Thank you for sending us "The Birthday Party". We would like to publish it on "The Rusty Nail." Thanks again for thinking of us.

Sincerely,

That sucks. But I got rid of facebook cause I just started to hate it so much.

Well...the good news is that Facebook let me back on after about five hours, and I really only joined it to share stuff with other writers...it's really not bad for that sort of thing...

Btw, I have no idea why you hate Facebook so much...they saved me a bunch of money on my car insurance...

Have a story about internet culture? eFiction Magazine now pays royalties...or at least they are for this upcoming issue, I'm on their mailing list because I got a story in their August, 2011 issue...anyway, this is what they sent out...

Hey!

Hope this email receives you well. I want to pass along an opportunity the magazine is running for April. In April, we're publishing an internet culture issue. We're looking for fiction that revolves around internet culture. Memes, internet jokes, tropes of the interwebs are all fair game. I know this is something of a specialty of yours, and you were the first writer I thought of with this project in mind.

The requirements for the piece would be:

Genre: Open
Maturity level: Any
Length: 0 - 10k
Compensation: One year royalty split equally between all contributors and the magazine. If we run 9 stories, all profits will be split 10 ways equally. After one year, all profits will go to the magazine. No other magazine that I've heard of does payment like this and I think it will make the project worthwhile for all involved.

Your story will be edited by my staff and I will give final OK. You will be able to participate in editorial process if you want.

I'm looking for a dedicated group of writers, who I will be managing and guiding to make this issue a project in and of itself. We will be promoting and selling it and working hard all year to generate money for the contributors and to grow the magazine.

Send in work here:

http://efictionmag.submishmash.com
http://efictionmag.submishmash.com

If you don't plan on submitting but still want to support the project, please be sure to share this post with your writerly friends. You can forward this email or share it to your networks by clicking the "View in Browser" link.

I am happy to answer any and all questions.

All the best,

Doug

Have a blog on Blogger? Or a Wordpress account? Setup FeedBurner...it's an RSS Feed thingy like we have here...

I'm not going to pretend I understand all this, but it was recommended by someone who knows stuff...so, I'll pass it along...

OK, according to DuoTrope..."Alfie Dog Limited is an exciting new publishing company which will publish a range of short stories and books in a number of genres." and "No monetary payment. Royalties We do not list pay specifics. Check with the publisher for details."...

Btw, they want my story "Sexual Healing" but want me to edit the darn thing...what am I an editor now? I feel like I've been demoted...

"I do like this story and would be prepared to carry it if you would like to make some changes and resubmit. As our submission guidelines say, we do not carry erotica and although this only reaches the edges of that genre it goes further than we are prepared to carry. If you would like to revisit those sections hinting but not specifying the love scenes then I will look at it again with a view to its inclusion.

Anyone else having FB problems today, or is it just me?

My friend Kemberlee Shortland is announcing the official launch of Tirgearr Publishing on Leap Day, February 29...the fact that she will only be able to celebrate the anniversary of the launch every four years hasn't seemed to cross her mind, but anyway...if you are looking for a publisher for your next "adult genre" story, check her out...

There's a rumor going around that some of you Stories Space Cadets might be needin' a little religion in your lives, and I found just the woman to bring it to you...

So, if we can't get you out to church this Sunday morn' we'll bring the church to you care of Sister Rosetta Tharpe...you know, that woman who looks like a church lady but has been known to play guitar likes she's possessed by the devil...this one is from 1960...

Me, I couldn't get a single poem up on the restroom wall in a bus station.

You know Rump, I really believe you just don't give yourself enough credit sometimes...

I truly believe that if you gave it the old college try, and really made a serious effort, you could probably get a single poem up on a bathroom wall somewhere...

Maybe in a clean, respectable bathroom...not like the bathroom in that cyber-dive on another site whose name will never be uttered on these hallowed grounds known as Stories Space...

Oh, and congratulations Diane...

Just under a month to go in our "New Beginnings" competition. We have some excellent submissions already, but there's still time to get your entry in!

I agree totally with Lisa...I just have to find time to read them all myself...just saying...

But Miss Hawke told us not to worry about originality.

So who's right?

Yeah, there's a lot of things I don't know for sure...but, I do know you certainly don't want to repeat the same themes over and over in your own writing...

Even Kitteh will start to notice...

Here's one, no-fee and $1000 first prize..."Your story must be no more than 2,500 words long. Deadline March 1, 2012. Only one submission per person"...I don't see anything about previously published stories, but it's early and I haven't had my first coffee yet...check it out...

Saw this recently...think it sort of belongs here...

Makes perfect sense to me...

Rebump...you have two days left on this one...just got this message...

Alan Jankowski,

Congratulations! Your submission, The Birthday Party, has been accepted for publishing in the anthology.

The book will be available to the public in early May 2012. It will be available in both paperback and e-book editions.

On behalf of all of us here I would like to thank you again for being a part of our project to raise money for cancer research. We will inform you when it is available, at which time we can begin the world record evolution processes.

What instead of the pub..... never !

Oh, right...what was I thinking?
Just a note that this fine little story site with the knowledgeable and friendly staff has recently crossed the big 500 Member milestone...

Heck, if we get any bigger we might have to hire more staff and move the corporate headquarters into a big high rise tower...

I highly recommend Duotrope. I have used them a number of times. They have an excellent system for you to track your submissions and responses which I find really useful.

They also won't list anyone who charges a fee to read your work, so you can be confident there aren't going to be any catches to the markets you find.

DuoTrope is good...and I think a lot of places are using Submishmash and the like, which makes it real easy as well...and if you ever have any question about the legitimacy of a publisher or anything writing related, you can always check Writer Beware...

I know I have that link posted somewhere...
Here is a good blog post on how to use Twitter...it was recommended to me, and I think it's a good quick read...

I know a lot of people here use Twitter to promote their work, but if you're relatively new to it...like myself, for instance...you pick up some useful advice like using "Hashtags" and URL shorteners...

Just thought I'd Bump this one, as it appears we have a few poetic jokesters on this site...

Not that that's a bad thing...

No Pandabear...we don't have that capability...you can't put links in stories either...

Are you really a panda bear, btw?
