Words of Wisdom for Today...I normally try not to get too deep, but sometimes I just can't help myself...

1. Money cannot buy happiness but somehow, it’s more comfortable to cry in a Mercedes Benz than it is on a bicycle.

2. Forgive your enemy but remember the bastard’s name.

3. Help a man when he is in trouble and he will remember you when he is in trouble again.

4. Many people are alive only because it’s illegal to shoot them.

5. Alcohol does not solve any problem, but then neither does milk.
In honor of the fact that the world ended yesterday, and nobody bothered to tell us here in the Stories Space forum btw...we have REM...
I just saw this in C Hope Clark's latest newsletter...pretty harsh, eh?

WORDS OF SUCCESS

"Write without pay until somebody offers to pay you.
If nobody offers within three years, sawing wood is
what you were intended for."

~Mark Twain

1) Who would pay for that?

2) Pretty arrogant and lazy task

You'd be surprised what people would do to see themselves "in print" and the amount they would pay to achieve that end...

why so quiet in here?

It's quiet because people are reading...

You know, like in a library...
Have you, or want to write something with a definite family appeal? Disney's Family Fun is, according to their site... "FamilyFun’s lively and informative content focuses on making the most of family time together through cooking, crafts, celebrations, volunteering, travel and other family activities."

OK, sounds good...and they pay pretty good too...$1.25 per word...just read the submission guidelines carefully...they got that whole query thing going on...

Look towards the bottom here for the submission requirements...

Does anyone here remember the sixties? If you do, does that mean you weren't really there?

Doesn't garlic keep dragons away though? Just asking...

The next story I won't say anything about as it's going into a competition first.
I'll just say it's almost finished and I expect to post a slightly adapted version on storiesspace sometime in July.
(I'm sure you'll get my drift there)

I get your drift Steffanie...

Yeah, I plan on writing a story for the same competition.
I have an unfinished flash fiction piece for here...and I think I'm going to write a short story for "e-book"...I'll shop it around to one of the e-book publishers, but I don't think I'll have any problem there...

After I get those things out of the way, I'll get back to writing my novel...I announced last year I was turning "Love Conquers All" into a novel...so far, I have one chapter done...
I hope to get a publishing deal prior to completion of the novel, so I've been trying to build up my "writer's resume" to that end in the hope of getting an agent and going the "traditional" publishing route. So far this year I've sold four stories...not bad, considering none were written with the intention of selling them...
If anyone is interested in my "writer's resume" it is my profile on LinkedIn...I think it may actually be overkill...I've listed every little "accolade" but, hey...

I also have been attempting to get something in print...so far, all the short stories I've sent in to various submission calls have been rejected. There are only limited markets for previously published stories and poems, which leads me to another thing. I'd like to try to get a poem "in print"...to that end, I think I'm going to hold off posting my next few poems here, and try to get a poem in one of the print journals...

I'm sure they'll eventually end up here...

That's it for me for now...though anything could change at any moment...
Found out today that I sold my fourth story this year...

So, I'm rather happy about that...

Out of 11 stories I've submitted to paying e-Zines since November 2010, I've sold 4 and had 7 rejected...not bad, I think, considering none were actually written with the idea of selling them in the first place...

As far as poems go, I'm 0 for 8...I've submitted 8 poems to the same paying e-Zines, and so far they've all been rejected...

Doing a bit better with the non-paying e-Zines in that regard...but, it's nice to actually get paid...
This is interesting...want to write that novel but don't have the time/patience/skill/whatever?

Hire a ghostwriter...yes, a ghostwriter is not someone who writes about spirits btw...

Check out this article on the site of one of those "author services" companies that offers everything from writing to editing, cover design, etc...

But then you're to write why it's compressed too.. I wonder, I wonder.

Don't worry Mandsi...I found out what compressed art looks like...

I just might have to borrow an art compressor...

Ah yes, a real Dutch rock band of sorts...and Thijs van Leer looks like he's going to explode any second...
