Hey there, Inspirators. The comp deadline may be past but the fun is just beginning. Now we get to wait, and fret about the fate of our stories, as the judges do their thing. Worst case scenario? Molly pops in and reports that the judges all quit and are now in therapy. But I don't see that happening with this slate. After all, we didn't get an entry from Ping 😜 (I'm still creeped out by his Spooky Tales winner).
Coffee, some nice Costa Rican, is waiting to grace your cups, as are Scottish Breakfast and Earl Grey teas. Hot chocolate mix is on standby with marshmallows at ready.
Have a good day, week, whatever.
Well, being ambitious, I have put some nice Ethiopian coffee on and filled the teapots with Red Rose and Peach Black teas. Hot water is ready for the hot chocolate crowd and I have restocked the marshmallows (both public supply and Sara's stash).
Watched the Olympic opening ceremony last night and 'twas quite a show, as expected. Two medals for Canada so far, in women's 3000m speed skating and men's moguls. And our women's hockey team keeps smoking their opponents but we and the Americans have dominated women's hockey for years so not exactly a shock. If the final isn't Canada vs. USA, I'll be stunned.
There, finally some sports I can talk about.

Sometimes I need a nudge to knuckle down and get something written, too (I almost wrote "get something on paper" but then realized that I haven't written a story on paper since, like, university).
I still scribble first drafts on paper 😳
Just me?
I am not sure I could though I have contemplated trying. My right hand has quite a bit of osteoarthritis in it and I am right handed. You are in good company, though. Last I heard, Neil Gaiman still drafts in longhand.

I know what would help. Next comp we'll have Admin give you a close date a week before the actual comp close date. 🤣
LOL. Might benefit others of us, too. This time went fairly quickly for me but I had the pressure of my looming eye surgery to push me. Sometimes I need a nudge to knuckle down and get something written, too (I almost wrote "get something on paper" but then realized that I haven't written a story on paper since, like, university).
It would almost be better if they just blamed COVID, eh. Labour troubles in sports cease to be amusing when you consider the salaries involved on both sides of the table. It's not like unionizing a plant full of underpaid workers in unsafe conditions. I support unions in a lot of fields, but pro sports negotiations always seem like two groups of privileged jerks bouncing off each other to me.
Anyhow, I prefer not to get political here and just broke my own rule, I guess. So I'll just move on to brewing coffee instead. Today's comes from the Blue Mountains of Jamaica. Lovely island that was my last real vacation before all heck broke loose. In the teapots we have Irish Breakfast and Wakoucha (Japanese Red Tea).
Weather has settled in these parts. Cold and there's plenty of snow for skiing and snowboarding crowd to enjoy, but at least it isn't adding more.

Broke a thousand words yesterday!
So now you have to spend today putting them back together. 🤣
Snow is stopped here. Some shovelling needed but I got out of it this time due to eye surgery (I did offer, by the way).
Working on a sequel to "The Healer's Secret". I am wrestling a bit with how it ends. It currently ends on a clear setup for a third story and I hate doing that when I don't even know 100% where that final story is going to go or when it will be ready. Though ideas are coming to me. I did have another ending in mind but it lacks the oomf of this one, IMHO.

Oh, Annie is well in! A great story. But what's it going to be like to be outside the top ten?
If they don't get any more, I'd hope they'd just extend the short list to 11. Seems a bit unfair to have only one person finish off the short list, esp. with the quality of stories we're getting. Kind of singles them out as somehow lesser than the rest.
