In fiction, at least, I tend to like something with some imagination, that goes beyond the "real" into worlds we can only imagine. So, a lot of s-f, fantasy, and horror.
Fall. The temperature is usually in my comfort zone (I hate both extreme heat and extreme cold), there's a beauty in the leaves changing, and Hallowe'en (I don't believe in the supernatural per se but love ghost stories and such).
We did units on poetry in English class over the years. Couldn't cite the years and poems or anything, but definitely did study poetry. Didn't have to learn much by heart in my day (1980s in Ontario, Canada), though. My Grade 12 English teacher (who, oddly, was German and also taught the school's German course) did make us do that for a speech of our choice from MacBeth (I chose the dagger speech).
I actually do like reading poetry out loud. Some modern poetry in blank verse doesn't scan well and is more suited to silent reading but most classical English poetry is definitely read aloud material. And Latin poetry, both in the original and in translation if the translation is done properly, is definitely for reading aloud. I took classics in university and am a fan of the Augustan poets (Horace, Virgil, Ovid, etc.).
As per the lovely lady above me, I learned about it through "red" and decided to join since I do have aspirations to write non-red material
Mamma Mia - ABBA (Or, really, just about anything by ABBA. Even their breakup songs.)
Star Wars, Ep. IV : A New Hope (saw it 5 times even before the "Ep IV: A New Hope" subtitle got added)
The furthest I have been from "home" would be China (not sure which of the several places I've been is furthest offhand). Longest I've stayed is 5 weeks. It's more complicated than that because, while it is far from my home, it is my wife's homeland and my in-laws are quite welcoming when I go so I don't always feel that I'm far from home.
I didn't know DirtyMartini that well but I'm always up for a poetry comp. I think. Seems to depend on the direction of the wind and what I ate for dinner.
I know it's late, I know you're weary
I know your plans don't include me
Still here we are, both of us lonely
Longing for shelter from all that we see
Why should we worry, no one will care girl
Look at the stars so far away
We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow?
We've got tonight babe
Why don't you stay?
Deep in my soul, I've been so lonely
All of my hopes, fading away
I've longed for love, like everyone else does
I know I'll keep searching, even after today
So there it is girl, I've said it all now
And here we are babe, what do you say?
We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow?
We've got tonight babe
Why don't you stay?
We've Got Tonight - Bob Seger
Pop Goes the World (also Men Without Hats)
Johnny played guitar, Jenny played bass.
Name of the band is The Human Race.
Everybody tell me have you heard? Pop goes the world.
Jenny played keyboard, Johnny played drums,
Called Little Baby and a big Bonhomme
Everybody tell me have you heard? Pop Goes The World
Sticking with the Gibb family:
This world has lost it's glory
Let's start a brand new story
Now my love right now there'll be
No other time and I can show you
How my love
Talk in everlasting words
And dedicate them all to me
And I will give you all my life
I'm here if you should call to me
You think that I don't even mean
A single word I say
It's only words, and words are all
I have to take your heart away
- Words, The Bee Gees (Hell, I could probably post the whole damn song I love it so much)
I looked at the skies running my hands over my eyes
And I fell out of bed hurting my head from things that I said
'Till I finally died which started the whole world living
Oh if I'd only seen that the joke was on me…
