Well done my dear. I know how much you have put into this project. You deserve all the success you get. I bet that you are proper chuffed to see the fruits of your labour in print. I will be forever grateful for all the help and advice you have given me. Needless to say, I will be more than happy to buy a copy as and when it becomes available. Kindest regards, Verity

If the big fat bear is in the house, I've sorted the name cock up now. Give my best to little Ivy.

I did sing once, so yes. I was in a stage show of The Blues Brothers by accident.

Happy New Year to all the writers, readers, and other folks hanging out here! Been a good year on SS, I think. Let's make 2023 an even better one.

Happy New Year ape.

Active Ink Slinger

Happy Christmas everyone. I hope the new year gives you everything you need. Regards, Verity.

Although I no longer write for this site, I am genuinely sad to see its demise. It seems that the only time it gets any real attention is when they have a competition on. Then you get the usual interlopers from the sister site looking for glory. This is a shame and I honestly don’t know what the answer is. Perhaps as I no longer write on here I am in no position to say anything. If you think that, I really don’t blame you. There are some very good writers on here but they are not getting the recognition they deserve. I see a couple of new faces, one of which looks to have a bright future in writing. So today I am going to go through the front page and give everyone on it a 5* rating. Call me mad, call me bad. Whatever you think of me, I wish you all well. Yes, even you.

I still find it hard to believe I've never read a single book. It is on my "to do" list though. I'm thinking Oliver Twist or something similar.

Active Ink Slinger

Well done Ping on selling your stuff. I was over the moon when I sold my first three scribbles. I'm up to fifty now and still find it hard to believe people actually buy my smut. I wish you well and hope they keep buying your writing's. It feels good doesn’t it. Keep on trucking. Regards, Verity

Hello everyone, just popped in to say hello and goodbye for a while. I have one last story for SS and assuming it passes the mods will be posted in time for Christmas. It’s a Christmas ghost story. I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the nice people who took the time to read and vote on my stories. It has been fun and I have learned a lot. I will pop back from time to time to say hello. In the meantime, have a very happy Christmas and god bless. Kindest regards, Verity

I never had an RR, so I guess the number is right.

I wouldn't worry. They don't actually do anything.

This is what I'm listening to at the moment. Just because.

I've been following her for quite some time. I'm a huge Carpenters fan and in some of her songs she sounds just like Karen. Like this one...

So I heard a rumour that the Braves pulled it off. Yay for Sara's team!!

Got some coffee and tea here for celebrating or just relaxing on a Sunday morning. Still lots of honey and lemon, too, if needed.

Finally really feels like Fall here. Temp hit 0C last night and it is only going to hit low double digits this afternoon before plummeting again.

I have a 4000+ word story written with lots more to go and am serious debating if it is worth that much verbiage. It is a fairly simple love story and this is feeling like overkill. Then again, Love Story was also a fairly simple love story and they got both a novel and a feature film out of it. So, hey, maybe I'll just keep going and cut the hell out of it when I edit if I find there is a lot of excess.

I was listening to a famous sculptor on the wireless one day. He was asked how he could get a piece of rock and turn it into an elephant. His answer was sublime.  He said. “I just get a piece of stone, and chip off all the bits that don’t look like an elephant.” Keep your story as is. You may end up chipping off the wrong bits. I’m sure your story will be just perfect.

I’ve just looked over mine again. To be honest, I’m a little embarrassed that it is still at number one. I hope that changes soon. Even though the public vote isn’t taken into account, it seems odd to be placed at the top. I’m sure it’s only because I got mine in first. A day after, I thought of a much better one. It wasn’t suitable for here so I put it on the other place. It did manage to shock those who read it. I hope we do get a lot more entries on here. It seems that the readership on both sites is down at the moment.

I got 21! But then, I have not heard of Get Out or The End. 🤔

Well done you, that's brilliant. Get Out was a recent horror film, not bad.

The End was a black comedy. I really enjoyed it but I can see why many wouldn't. It appealed to my twisted sense of humour.

Good morning everyone. Any chance of a strong coffee please. Best Bond song, From Russia With Love, Matt Monroe. That's my choice anyway. Talking about films, I posted a tiny story today. It contains twenty-three film titles. It would be interesting to see if anyoneone can find all of them. Some are very easy, some a little harder to spot. It was just a little idea that popped in my head. I thought it might be fun.

Time to give this a bump, I think. Six entries so far including Tams, who just went up this afternoon. We hit the two week mark tomorrow with about 17 days to go after that. Still lots of time to get in on the action, folks. Last comp we hit 15 entries and I think at least one of the ones last year hit 16. Can we better that mark this time around?

If we get ten or fewer, I will make the top ten. Hurrah I say.

Aghhhh, I hate garlic. I used to shop in Waitrose but they started putting garlic in everything. I think it tastes disgusting. I have to check every label these days. I see something that looks nice, read the label and find it contains bloody garlic. So, that's a no from me.

May as well give my little offering a plug. It's not very good but it's all I got. After posting it I thought of a better one. I will save that for another day. A Village in Cornwall

Tom Baker was my favourite. Having said that, I did once have a drink with Colin Baker. He was very nice. A friend of the family knows him.

The coffee is on. The kettle is boiling. What's happening, folks?

My comp entry is "simmering" for today (i.e. I won't look it again for a day or two) so I am back to my new fantasy story that I have been working on for a week or two now. I keep resisting the ending that I have put on it (the denouement, not the climax of the story) but somehow it feels right every time I go to change it and I back down. Maybe it is time to leave well enough alone and let the readers be the judge. We shall see.

The hardest part about painting a picture is knowing when to put the brush down. If it feels good, it probably is. Publish and be damned.

If you met Dr Who, and he said he would take you back to spend a week in any year. What year would you choose? For me, my best year was 1978. What about you? No need to say why unless you want to.

Active Ink Slinger

The best Bond that never was, Patrick McGoohen. Apparently he was offered the part but turned it down. How cool is that. Way to go Number 6 BCNU
