Unfortunately in the subsequent silence, the birds are returning.

You know things are bad when you crack up laughing instead of getting that damned tank properly fixed.

Fortunately, the birds are suspicious of the gentle chimes and stay away.

Elizabeth, you are going to have to teach me what this baseball game is all about. Sounds dafter than cricket! And the total sighs of satisfaction coming over the water are baffling. All I know of baseball, I learned from Kelly/Sinatra in 'Take Me Out to The Ballgame." or Robert Redford in 'The Natural' . There was a recent film starring Brad Pitt which dealt more with management of a team. Many, many years ago {40's) there was Gary Cooper and 'Pride of the Yankees.'

Oh, and Elizabeth --Style does not= Skill . Skill is indispensable. Now, let's argue about me having the nerve to interfere in a sport I know nothing about.

A hot latte and I see Sara has strawberry shortbread on view

You know things are bad when he smiles and thinks that is funny.

You know things are bad when you can't afford good workmanship.

Unfortunately, the music scares the cat away, but attracts more birds.

Our son's fiance wrote us the most beautiful letter assuring us that she will do everything she can to make sure we are always included in their lives, and we will never be sorry that our son moved away from us. It cemented to us that she is too good for our son, lol.

Gillian, that has all the promise of a very happy future--for the couple and the whole family. I wish them well.

And I appreciate your birthday wish. Getting old is a delightful challenge--which illness should I defy next?

Red, your last story here was really powerful.

Thanks for that appraisal. Verbal, It's so rare to see work mentioned on this page . BTW Call me Jim, 'Red' sounds pretentious . My son bought me TWO bottles of Jack Daniels, for my birthday as he knows along with Single malts that is one of my favourites. I see that bourbon figures in your delights. I shall have a little toast to your generosity tonight. Pity I can't slip you a small sip!

. It’s so sad how classrooms are looking run down while the field and basketball stadium looks brand new.

How true, Amelia. It is exactly the same over here. And, sadly, it was ever thus. Luxurious stadia --even in the lower leagues, while window frames in schools rot, rain drips through rough classroom ceilings. Successive governments claim what they have done for education when in fact, they're doing our kids down. Pity football doesn't fund education.

God, I'm going all political. I'd better have a large latte and a Sara special before I go and lie down.
