There and Gone

He was here and then he was not, and a part of me died inside.

It wasn’t flashy. Not even a defined moment. There and gone as I slept, the world passed, and so did he, slipping from existence like the occurrence of a second, of a minute of any day. To say I cried is an understatement. Heart wrought from my chest, my spirit grieved, as I underwent one of thousands of tiny deaths, experienced each time these abnormal things happen.

Picking myself out of the cracks and woodwork of the floor took time. But in the end, we all must choose to live, or die.
